Inspired by Blue badger can we come up with a best 11 of players who had something but never fulfilled it for us over the last decade who really would have had a shot had McKenna got his hands on them.

Will put the 11 here once we have them. Need a mix of positions but will land on a formation later.

Updated:

Supple

Webster
McGuinness
McAuley
Delaney

Bishop
Garvan
Dozzell
Dobra

McGoldrick
Rhodes

(Keanen Bennetts might have had a chance earlier in career with McKenna. Wonder if they crossed at Spurs? Presume so)

Bit of licence in there beyond decade. Few other older would be Ambrose, Sito, Counago, Dos Santos (although was class anyway would love to see it)....

Matt Richards
Owan Garvan

If we've got Matt Richards then Westlake too. Really loving Westie's commentary and he wasn't a bad player either. I daresay we have better lefties mentioned above for the XI though.

I’ll start you off with Walton in goal, Humphreys in midfield and the carp fisherman up front. Taylor on the bench.

I don't think you have understood this thread.

I think the key attributes are attitude and raw ability. I would say Supple is a prime example.

Many of the others were a bit lightweight physically. I do think Dozzell would have progressed much better under McKenna. Downes has done well as it is. Would he have done even more under McKenna? We will never know.

Tamas Priskin is one I always thought we never played to his strengths and I reckon McKenna would have done. I don't think Simpson ever had the potential and that is why we didn't try that hard to keep him.

Knudsen, Spence, and players like them would be high on my list. Not spectacular players but hard workers who would be improved for sure.

I think those suggesting McKenna would have got more from McGoldrick and Murphy underplay how much MM did get the best out of them.

McAuley?

Don’t think he deserves to be in the OP’s list.

Club captain and an international whilst at Town.

How about Brett Pitman?

An excellent striker, but criminally mis-used while at ITFC… that said, I’m not sure he’d fit a KMc system either.

The OP (me) put him in :). My reasoning is he was scapegoated and let go criminally cheaply as if we would upgrade that area. He would have been great under McKenna in my opinion. Captain, Leader, could play play on the deck with the northern Irish connection a bonus.

Struggling a bit for defenders for the list as well and just thought he'd have been great and McKenna would not have let him go.

I've added Webster as well (gone o ln to have a good career but should never have been allowed to go)

Ahhh, got it, that’s very fair. I’d put Delaney in the same boat then.

Found his feet after he left us but McKenna would have discovered that whilst he was with us.

In midfield, I don’t think we ever got the best of Gary Roberts and he possibly had more about him.

Grant Leadbitter would be one of the CMs in the division in this system (in his prime)

I’d also throw Jon Stead into the mix, was inconsistent but always put a shift in

Delaney is a good shout and was thinking about him. If others agree I'll put him in. Reason I didn't was not sure he was a ball playing centre back in McKenna mould.

Sod it I'll put him in for now.

I accept that, although he had improved young players no end

Has he though? El Miz, Humphries, Baggott

If anything I’d say the ability to buy other, better players has held them back. What he has done is coached the players to a certain style really well.

I will raise you Woolfenden on that. It is clear he has improved the players who got us promoted whether they were here before or not.

I would also argue that Humphreys and Baggott are improving. El Mizouni has spent very little time under McKenna's coaching generally being out on loan. I suspect he is not seen as having the potential to make it with us.

Sam Parkin. A technically gifted striker who Joe Royle misused.
