Is SS a centre forward or attacking midfielder? 18:56 - Aug 3 with 5033 views | hunty21 | Even though desperate for a centre forward would he actually beable to hold up player and play like our other centre forwards one to rival chaplin hence we still need a centre forward to plug the gap
I'd describe him as.... on 19:00 - Aug 3 with 4400 views | Bloots | ...."a utility forward". I think we needed another CF even before Hirst got injured, we couldn't have gone into a Premier League season with Ladapo as our 3rd choice CF (now 2nd choice) But other areas where we lack are more important primarily CM and LW/L10. Big couple of weeks coming up transfer wise.

Any idea how long until Al Hamadi will be fit?

....Hirst, Delap, AAH, me, Ladapo. I'm just not sure how much work, if any, he has done in preseason. If he's literally starting next week, then he's looking at about 4 weeks minimum I'd guess.

I hope he is better than I think. I don't mean any malice in that, just a mid table Championship striker from what little I saw of him. Obviously had time to improve, but improve he must.

I hope you've seen something I haven't. Think he's way off and needs a loan - and I think League One is his level at the moment. I appreciate his work rate, but I've never seen anything where I thought "wow". Great attitude, terrible control. Prefer him to Freddie, though. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He's very raw, as you'd expect given the level he's played at, but he has pace, power, awkwardness and determination from what I've seen, and McKenna will get him playing to his strengths even as he develops him (quickly I reckon) in other areas. Certainly don't mind him being our third #9 (so long as the other two are basically fit) and with Delap's flexibility the two can play together at times with AAH up top and Delap moving to right side to give Burns a spell.

He was playing while injured and still scored 4 goals in 280 mins. Hes young, with bags of potential.

That's my issue. We haven't got time for potential next season. I am not knocking Al-Hamadi, just not what we need next season. We will get another CF in, so expect him to go on loan to the Championship, which will be good for him if he isn't getting minutes here. Again, one who might be hindered by our sudden rise.

We'll see, every team has a surprise package each season. I think KM will see AAHs ability.

We've got time for potential. Has Hutchinson played a premier league minute before (he might have done)? All due respect to someone like him, he's all potential, and we're all talking about him like he's a superb signing. [Post edited 3 Aug 2024 22:49]

One was a dead-rubber penalty and the rest were tap-ins /deflections. And he missed a vital penalty which nearly cost us, Sorry, i like him, but I definitely think his contribution has been over-exagerated hence why I'm being a bit too critical.

I'm going to sound like I'm being unfair on Al Hamadi here, but I actually think those who are suggesting that he should be our 3rd centre forward this season, in the Premier League, are the ones who are putting unfair expectations on him. He had a great 6 months playing in League 2 last season, where he scored 13 league goals, before he joined us for Feb - May & scored 4 more in the Championship. On the face of it that is a good return; but we have to be honest about the 4 goals he scored before we start suggesting he could rip it up against Premier League defences, while deputising for an injured Hirst, & we certainly have to examine his capacity to play the role of winning & retaining possession with his back to goal, as the sole centre forward (against PL defenders) and turning them, or laying off a clever, concise ball to the supporting forwards. We will be getting so little possession in the opposition half this season, in comparison to last, that it is vital we win & retain as much as possible up front, and not just have balls forward coming straight back to put more pressure on our holding midfielfers & defence. Do we really see Al Hamadi playing that role successfully? Even Delap, who is far more technically suited to play it, is having to work his socks off in trying to adapt to what McKenna wants, as we saw in his improved performance yesterday. I like AAH, I really do; I like his attitude, his confidence, his effort, his directness, his tricks, but at this moment I see him as Championship player who needs minutes at that level to continue his development. His goals for us were a penalty, 2 tap ins from crosses a yard out, & another tap in that was going in anyway. Now he had to get himself into those positions to be there, and that is not an inconsequential ability, in fact I think the 'fox in the box' striker is a role that we have lacked for quite some time, so I'm not discussing his goals for us to disparage his ability, I'm just pointing out that sometimes statistics when quoted don't give the full picture of a player's potential in a league where 'easy' goals will be very hard to come by & the centre forward role will require a hugely different skillset than what we have yet seen from him. Putting such expectations & pressure on a young player (I know 22 isn't 17, but when you've jumped from L2 to the PL in half a season) could be a disaster for him & set back his development, which I can't see KMcK allowing to happen. A season of regular Championship football would be great for him & I'd imagine there will be no shortage of clubs willing to take him, even with a guaranteed minutes clause attached to the loan.

I hope he's better than I think. Prem standard is incredible. Like stratospheric. Squad needs 5/6 more imo. 3/4 need to be blue chip signings too. This is already accounting for McKenna's genius too. The reality is our squad is rammed with potential and very little (essential none) top quality experience. [Post edited 4 Aug 2024 8:04]

Not suggesting he hasn't the ability, just not the finished article. We are going to need a CF in, this is a tough league to score in. Will be delighted if Al-Hamadi is our surprise package, but I expect Taylor to be that player from our squad. Not as a forward, but I think he can do really well for us this season.

I think the injury to Hirst coupled with Omari and Delap not counting towards the squad cap probably keeps him around now until January at least. Think we were going to be trying for another 9 anyway but with Hirst out the extra cover for the early part of the season might be vital.

We play one up. As a third striker he rarely gets a look in. Which CF do we think is going to come in and be third choice and never play, but who is top quality? We need a CM, and a left sided 10 / winger. Ideally another attacking player as a finisher across that forward three. Anything more is a bonus.
