We still want O’Shea from Burnley 12:09 - Aug 19 with 11871 views | SitfcB | According to Nixon. Ipswich want to sign Burley's tough centre half Dara O'Shea in a £10 million deal. The Tractor Boys are focusing on a move for O'Shea after signing keeper Aro Muric and missing out to Tottenham on Wilson Odobert. The Premier League new boys now want an answer on O'Shea with Brentford also keen on the Republic of Ireland defender. O'Shea may wait to see if any other clubs comes in before committing but that would risk Ipswich going elsewhere. Burnley also need a resolution as they could have to find a replacement. Free agent John Egan is currently training with him after leaving Sheffield United. [Post edited 19 Aug 2024 12:11]

It's clear we're looking for a pacier upgrade to Woolfie. As well as Woolfie coped, he did look a tad one-paced on Saturday. More than I thought he would, if truth be told.

Woolfie by homer_123 18 Aug 2024 6:42Interesting.
You've not analysed the two halves to understand what happened.
In the first half, they never got in behind at all. Second half, Pool changed their approach we pressed higher leaving more space.
We were going to get caught in that instance and it happened. Of our defenders Davis was the one having most problems. Salah's runs and timing of them he struggled with.
Also....when Woolfie did get caught in was inevitably from a 3rd man run. I.e. not his player but a runner from deep not picked up by our midfield. By the time they arrived in Woolfies vicinity they are at full pace. No one is catching them then.
I think you'll find it's Edmundson that will go, not Woolfie.

Think for some opponents Tuanzebe might be preferred at RB to Johnson. The latter looks good getting forward but Tuanzebe looks really solid defensively.

If we're looking to replace Woolfenden I personally hope we sell him. Edmundson is more than good enough to be the reserve, and any income from Woolfenden's sale will help us out with the financial regulations. I personally thought he had an excellent game on Saturday but perhaps not.

It's those kind of decisions which will be the difference between going down without a whimper and giving it a right good go. My fear with Woolfie is that he'll look alright at this level for 85 mins but there'll be a 5-min period or even less where he's exposed and punished. Greaves looked capable of sticking to the task for a full 95 mins. I'm assuming Kieran thinks O'Shea would carry the same focus/intensity if we're still pursuing. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I can't remember which Town player or ex player said it. It was something along the lines of: "In League one Luke looked like a league one player, in the Championship, he looked like a Championship player. In the Prem, he will become a prem player." In effect, Woolfie plays to the level we are at. I think he'll get better and better.

We just want to stay up don't we People saying trust KM etc. Yet don't agree with wolfy being dropped. If he's good enough he will continue being picked. The fact we are looking for a new rcb appears like KM doesn't rate him as much as others as a prem cb. Football is football. Its about being as good as can be not picking players because of the past.

We're nothing like Forest mate. Our transfers have been patient and measured. We expect nothing less from MA et al.

And our starting line up against Liverpool featured 10 players who'd played for us in the championship last season Whilst we might make a fair few signings this summer it's still going to be evolution not revolution

Hence my edit. I think as a fanbase we want more, more, more. A player who has done so well for us just being thrown aside, even after a good performance against a world class team. I think we'd, as a fanbase, happily come close to replacing the whole squad if we could, Davis and perhaps, at a stretch, Morsy aside. Some are not going to make the step up. That's fair. But one who actually put in a more than decent performance against one of the best front lines in football being summarily dismissed? Feels off to me, even though he has always been a target for many.

Isn't it the manager that want's more, more, more? Because if he was so happy with his options, he wouldn't be targeting another centre back, surely?

I'm not sure whether it's because he's unhappy with Woolfenden or if he wants to have extra depth at the back (especially if we want to play a back three). Could be that Edmundson has perhaps asked for the opportunity to play first team football so it will be a case of one in, one out, and understandably he wants Premier League experience. Or perhaps Woolfenden will be cast aside as soon as O'Shea comes in.

Nope - doesn't make sense to me. All the fans I speak to are desperate for the existing players to get their reward and play in the top flight, but that desire is tempered with the realism and knowledge that we also need to build a squad that can keep us in the top flight, not just this season but also with a platform to build on next and beyond. The club has been very careful to manage expectations around who we will sign, why we are signing them and that they expect this season to be a massive challenge and we need more strength in depth. I see nothing to compare what we are doing to what Forest did last year, I see the approach closer to a Brighton. The year Brighton were promoted they signed 11 players over the course of that season to secure their place.

I seem to remember that being on Life's a Pitch... so possibly Osman or Butcher, or could've been the episode last season that Chambo was on. I think it was one of those 3 that said it anyway.

We were *always* going to sign at least a dozen new faces. It's just the natural evolution of the squad. We let 6 go in the summer, so replace these with better and upgrade 6 of the existing squad. It's hardly throwing the baby out with the bath water.

We're not becoming another Forest at all. Many players have left and they obviously need to be replaced. Every single window, if we can improve on the squad, we will. If they think they can improve us in the January window, they will. If we stay up, they will look to improve us again. If that means that last years 'first 11' become this years squad players, well that is incremental improvement. I think the fans are pretty good, if any of our squad are not good enough, we will still support them and will know they are giving everything to be as good as they can, and we will support them. My view, and i think most Town fans view, is KM and MA have proved that they know what they are doing and we trust in them. If KM and MA think, for example, Edmundson is good enough for starting 11, he will play him, if he thinks he is not good enough, they will look to upgrade and replace.

"I think the fans are pretty good, if any of our squad are not good enough, we will still support them and will know they are giving everything to be as good as they can, and we will support them." I guess so. And every fanbase has a minority who go against this.
