Aren’t we already at maximum squad size? Ladapo lined up somewhere?

You can chop and change your 25 up to August 31st, not a case of one in one out.

This in itself tells you all you need to know about just how highly McKenna rates him.

The fact we would agree to break our transfer record for just staying in the division, regardless of how Broja does in the coming season, suggests that McKenna is incredibly confident that he will thrive in our system.

Which is good enough for me based on the last 2.5 years!

The man has League One players, players that I thought MIGHT get us promoted into the Championship, looking like they might be competent in the Premier League.

Goodness knows the possibilities for what McKenna could do for an international striker suggested to be worth £50m last summer on potential alone.

Between Broja and Cajuste, that £43 of next season's budget spent if we stay up. Asume will will need to make similar deals for the next few seasons?

We're investing heavily this year so that the next 1-2 seasons (if we stay up) should focus on incremental changes/improvements in certain positions over time.

So if he doesn't make an impact but we stay up we have to spend £30m on a player we probably won't want?

Very uncomfortable about this. Hopefully that'll look like a bargain come May.

A player who will likely still be worth £20m - £25m even if he completely flops here.

That's the thing about these players worth insane money is that they don't lose value massively quickly even after a poor spell.

Same reason that Hirst didn't lose value after failing to do anything at Blackburn and Rotherham. If he'd scored 25 he'd have been worth £15m to Leicester but when he didn't he was still worth the £1.5m or so they'd have valued him at beforehand when he'd done nothing. Broja is just as unproven a level up.

It's like that but just for silly money.

£30M? That's a lot of money. McKenna must really rate him. Have any of you fine people seen him play? Can he hold on to the ball and bring others in? Not really bothered by his scoring record, just on what he brings to us. Is he any good?

Wonder if there's a clause saying he needs to make a certain number of appearances to trigger the compulsory transfer as well? Can't imagine we've left oursekves that exposed.

I think this is just the reality of transfer dealing as a newly promoted club - we don't have enough money to really invest as we need to in one Summer, plus it will no doubt be tough to convince top players to fully commit to us for the longer term, when we may go straight back down.

Yes, I'd be happier if that was part of the deal. Cajuste's deal is fine because, in reality, £10m - £15m is not much for a Premier League survival but £30m is very different.

He does a bit of everything really. Very much the sort of player you'd see leading our system.

His goals to date for Chelsea, Southampton and Vitesse show headers, some great one on one finishes, long shots, some nice composure. Albeit he's a lot of potential at this stage and not a huge amount of goals but he's only 21 now isn't he, so most of that time at Vitesse and Southampton he was 18 or 19.

Got a lot to prove but then so had Hirst and look how that turned out. Very exciting capture given the potential for him to be seriously good in our system.

Even if he doesn't bag loads, he seems to do all the holding up, occupying defenders and bringing others into play.

He's very quick, a lot quicker than Hirst, very powerful and a good dribbler too. When I saw the video of Ioannidis in the summer and fell in love with that link it was Broja who he reminded me a bit of. Ioannidis looked another level in terms of tricks and dribbling though.

Bizarrely my two closest work colleagues are Fulham and Southampton season ticket holders so will be speaking to both tomorrow about him when I'm in the London office.

Be interesting to know whether it's £30m upfront or a deal that with add-ons could equal £30m. Sure Chelsea will be bumping up the headline figure in the press. It could end up as something like £20-25m upfront with the remainder due on appearances, goals, etc

We are reported to have bid £27m for the Greek lad, Fotis Ioannidis, earlier in the summer, so I think this is a less risky move than that was. Broja knows the league, has thrived there before, and he won't be leaving a mediterranean climate behind to come here.

I'm led to believe it's not £30m. It's closer to the £25m mark, before clauses.

Thanks for that, I genuinely had no idea about the lad. Sound very, very promising, so exited to see him in a Town shirt. I guess we will be paying for potential, but that is exactly what McKenna will bring out of him.

Total package worth over £30m - hopefully that means at least £10m of the fee is tied up in clauses.

I think that the logic is that if we stay up it will in part be because of his goals, and the £30m is good value. If he doesn't score the goals, he's not worth £30m but we don't stay up so it's not paid anyway.

This is why the 'paperwork' reason comes up for delays on these deals - so many details to get agreed, reviewed by lawyers, rechecked etc etc.
