Great to know Magic was back! You could still hear his passion for the club when he done that interview with Statman. Still gets me every time when he talks about the fans singing his name at Wembley.
Surprised he was having to badger.. I thought there were a number of former players, particularly those with a connection to Liverpool that were invited… as seen in Milts tweet the other day..

Tbf to Magilton if he was indeed sacked as he says when at his mums/dads deathbed in the hospital (something Evans knew about at the time), then yeah I totally understand why he’d be bitter. So would I if you worked for a company for a long period of time and that happens.

Bloody Evans, that wasn't even a good decision Magilton was fine.
He had a nice stint at Melbourne Victory for a year after, while I was there, in fact changed my name to Melbourne Victory Blue because of him. Since amended.

Oh, oh, oh he's Sarmiento you know, Jimmy Magilton ee-oh!

And he sacked him over the phone. Disgraceful. There was no excuse for treating anyone that way and I don’t blame Jim at all for swerving the club all these years. I would have.
I hope as the current work on the ground gets completed they can accommodate more former players/managers. But capacity is a problem, as we all know and Matt Holland again expressed in his interview.

It wasn't quite as simple as that. A meeting had been arranged with Jim for the morning but he went back to Northern Ireland overnight as his mother was ill. As Roy Keane's appointment was bound to get out, it was done over the phone instead. It was far from ideal, but the plan had been to do things properly.
He definitely has had for the last couple of years. Like to think Life's a Pitch had a bit to do with that. Terry invited him to the Ex-Players' Dinner and I think that was what got it over the line. He got inducted into the Hall of Fame, came back on the radio with us the next morning and then did the podcast last season and was excellent.

Sorry to be thick, who is that on Fabio Wardley's left (right as we look) ?

Hmm..plenty of fans were calling for Jim to be fired as it was a lack-lustre season, despite Evans's investment. A 3-1 win over Norwich was pleasing, but it didn't paper over the cracks. The real problem was that Evans then appointed Keane....and then Jewell.

So a deal was done with Keane behind Magilton’s back and without the good grace to tell him up front before grubbing around for a new manager. So they then had to rush Jim to the phone while his mother was dying because they’d failed to keep what had been arranged behind his back confidential.
Is this how it was?
Dementor Evans was always going to let Magilton go. Why did he not do so before appointing Keane? ‘That’s the way business is done’? Not in my world and clearly not in Jim’s.

I don't think Jim's mother was dying, if I remember correctly, even if she was very ill.
As unpleasant as it is, that is the way business is done in football. Joe Royle was sounded out before George Burley was sacked, for example.

Very ill or dying - I’m not sure the former makes it any more savoury.
Was McKenna sounded out before Cook was sacked? If he was there was no danger of knowing KM was coming before Cook left.
I’m not disputing the ghastly way managers are often replaced and it’s not new. Bobby Robson was by Everton and threw the deal in the bin when they broke their word about releasing the news before he’d spoken to the Cobbolds.
I guess I just believe there’s a right way to do business and a wrong way.

I gather that McKenna had been on Ashton's radar before Ashton had even arrived at PR.
