Advanced talks for Ogbene - 8M on 21:43 - Aug 26 by FrimleyBlue
We don't have a rw other than Burns who can do that role.
Think Delap was earmarked for that role with his running power and physicality. Maybe that this is a solution. Get cover in on the right side and Delap is one of the main strikers.

Think KMs certainly creating a squad where he can move players into various positions. Esp if we get Ogbene and maybe even still Broja.
Smart addition. Price tag looks about right in my opinion.
Lightning speed, touchline winger and width, him and Burns fantastic options for the right, both similar profiles/players, a position we needed depth in. Ticks a lot of boxes.
We need to stop talking and starters and non-starters. Every member of the group will be utilised, we play with such a high intensity and we need depth for that to rotate for freshness - and we need to rotate with same level of quality.
We have constantly rotated throughout seasons under KMc, especially in the front areas, and we will need to do that again this season to maintain our intense style of play.

As an ROI supporter I'm not too sure about this. 27 now and obviously a decent pacey player. Made his career at Rotherham with 120 appearances and 12 goals.
But hey if McK wants him who I am to argue. There could well be a player waiting to be developed and hit new heights.
Personally I'd still like another experienced 9 to come in and help Delap and Hirst.

Most of us have had Hutchinson down a right sided attacker when we've laid out our squad with 2 for every position, but this signing would suggest he might be preferred in the central role. Wes would be the other option on the right, unless he is going to be out for a number of months/the season. With 25 squad places, we have to choose wisely & be ruthless when called for. It looks like Harness and/or Taylor could be moved out to facilitate the new signings, but could it be possible that even Chaplin's place in the squad comes under pressure? If Omari is seen as a central attacker option along with Szmodics, and if there's any truth in our interest in the second Luton player, Chong, aswell, it gets hard to see where Chappers would fit in.

Agree with all of that except maybe the valuation. It feels like we're overpaying but perhaps that's the going rate and I'm being unfair.
I don't think his end product is good enough from what I've seen.

I agree with you when it comes to the attacking players, but not the defensive players. I think they'll be pretty set as per last year, with first choice and back ups, with maybe just the odd random game where the back up will play (excluding injury/suspension).
I like Ogbene, think he’d be a good addition and that the price is right.
But imagine two years ago seeing a Rotherham winger up against us in League One and suggesting he’d be signed in two years for more than our then record signing.
Shows what being half decent in the Premier League does to your price and why the big fees we have spent are low risk. Even if we went down we’d recoup nearly all of it if we wished.

Defensively we do rotate less, that is true, although RB was rotated a little at times last season mainly due to injuries, and think we will see rotation of Johnson/Tuanzebe this year.
Think the CB pairing will settle into O’Shea/Greaves consistently with two good depth options in Woolfenden/Burgess should we need to change due to form/injuries.
Beyond Davis/Morsy attacking wise though, think there will be constant rotation due to the intensity we play at, along with intensity of the Premier League.

Having O Shea and adding Ogbene would give us two of the fastest players recorded last year, going to be slightly rapid
And Leif was the fastest player in the Prem this weekend, someone said on here.
We are going for the Wolves under Espirito Santo approach- lightning transition from front to back. It's a tactic designed to pick up wins, especially away from home. We need 11 or 12 wins across the season.
We have also gone with players who take their chances up top.
Remember that season when we lost all our goals when Tommy Miller and co left?
It's the opposite of that!

Very decent challenger pushing upgrade for WB. It’s been needed for two seasons - we got away with covering several injuries but not this time, they can fight it out between themselves and hopefully we have both in the building and fit!

This is where McKenna is so clever.
Teams will take the matches to us at this level. We will sometimes need to sit back and camp in as a back 6, 7, 8 potentially across the edge of our box.
When we win the ball back and you have a combination of Omari, Burns, Ogbene, Delap, Clarke, Hirst, Szmodics, even Davis and Johnson to hit you on the break, all with pace, some with serious skill carrying the ball then it potentially buys the midfield and defence an extra 5-10 yards in the middle where the opposition now have to sit back.
It may mean they have one or two less players involved in that build up for fear of turnovers. Who do we have in there trying to force those? Morsy, Luongo, Cajuste and Phillips all players known to be able to win the ball and see and pick a pass. The fear for teams we play against of being hit on the counter to devastating effect buys those midfielders a couple of extra seconds, after a turnover, of being able see a run and pick a pass that we can then hurt the opposition with.
It's fascinating to see how McKenna looks to build his team. Every single scenario is considered, recruitment is pin pointed to the attributes we need to make our system work as well as Plan B and Plan C.
This is why to me the likes of Chaplin, Taylor, Harness as so on have been upgraded so quickly. Because as much as they offer in the leagues below, they don't have the tools to do what is needed in the Premier League.

Lot of money for someone who was a free transfer last season and will be a backup to Wesley... unless he's out for a number of months... let's hope not!
