The airlines have been using dynamic pricing for years. It's basically the key to their business model.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Who gains from this situation though. The artist or the vendor?

And pretty much everyone else (trains, holidays, any tourist places during the school holidays, etc). Possibly OP meant for gig tickets?

I think TM will be a % commission of sales so the answer is both.

Yes sorry should have been clearer. I always thought a set ticket price was set in stone. I have never come across it before for gigs.

Understood. That approach on gig tickets does feel particularly hard to take.

Really don't know how they can effectively "outlaw" selling on for a profit and then auction the last few in the same way to those capable of affording market pricing.... its a complete hypocracy

Hypocracy? From the Gallagher brothers? Surely not.

Price gouging plain and simple! Surely a breach of advertising standards if ticket prices were announced? My mate queued for tickets for the Irish gigs this morning and got kicked out with a varnish cache error. Told him didn't really matter as if he had got through the tickets would probably be €450 each.

Had a look at the cost of Knebworth vs these gigs. Basically it's 3x - 4x the price adjusted for inflation for basic tickets. With the "dynamic pricing" more like 6x-8x.

It is illegal to resale tickets in Ireland but lots of noise over the mess that was today... I'd have loved to see them but not paying €400 per ticket! At that price I'd expect to be on stage with the Gallagher's.

And if you’ve been in a queue for three or four hours and finally get into ‘select tickets’ page you are going to feel more pressure to pay twice what you expected. So you queue builds up ever more excitement and obligation, which Ticketmaster know.

And that should not be legal in my opinion. Prices should be clear up front before potential customers spend time and effort.

Prices should be clear and not move, simple as that, anything else is basically extortion.

Same goes for train tickets etc etc etc

Re Heaton Park. Heard the tail end of an interview with who I think was a local politician or councillor up that way - in which she repeated her view of when they last played there.

Basically, rather than b@gger Heaton Park up again they could transform a run down area into a new place of beauty and hold the concert there - whereuppon it would always remail an Oasis legacy. Oasis Park if you like!

I think it's a cracking idea, however by all accounts she got dogs abuse from the brothers last time she suggested it.

Dynamic pricing is all well and good if you use it to spread demand. It can be useful to encourage people to take less busy trains for example.

However examples like this are a pure money grab. At best they've massively underestimated demand and priced too low (I doubt it), but more likely they've lied and advertised a price that effectively doesn't exist to gouge people, but with the added pressure of it being extremely limited.

tbf in theory you know the max cost of a train tickets, the price that dynamically changes is simply the discount amount.

whilst with dynamic pricing like this, you dont know the theoretical max price at the off, you assume the announced price is the max price.

they tried dynamic pricing for the F1 at silverstone last year, which created crazy scenarios like the person sitting next to you in the same stand could have paid twice as much or half as much as you did.

I think they dropped it, only because the system couldnt cope with the pricing variations happening so quickly ( a clue as to what might have been the issues with Oasis tickets), not because they recognised it was poor value for fans.

but as I always say the consumer has the power, if you dont like the cost, or the way the prices change, dont pay them. the more people do that, the more likely the system is going to change.

Not really, it means that the wealthiest will always win.

My poor old son in law had a budget as he has a big mortgage and two kids to think of. He decided that the stated price pf £300 a pair of standing tickets was ok and sat on his pooter for hours in a queue.

When he got to the front I think the price was £676 a pair, so he didn't click the button.

It's a p1ss take.

As I understand it, artists can choose to have dynamic pricing (or not). So, while TicketBast@rds are indeed such, so too are the working class heroes
