We'll probably see more of him than we thought. I wish we had offered Vas an improved deal though.

Would love to know the full story with Hladky. Still seems odd he’d walk away after such a great year.

Basically, Ashton lowballed Hladky and his agent since his agent is a small-time operation. Ashton is a lot more forthcoming to his bigger mates in the agent game.

Essentially, the offer for Hladky was so poor he and his agent *had* to shop around. He couldn't accept the terms offered for the Premier League. He wanted nothing more than to stay from what I gather. I also wonder whether US owners were reticent to tie down a 34 y/o to another long-ish deal.

He probably feels it's worth his while competing in a premier league squad while he's got the chance, even if he isn't currently viewed as number one.

I think he's slightly underrated. He was a massive part of the L1 success and saw the start of McKenna ball and playing out etc. He was the first to have to put up with half the NS telling him him to lump it.

Played a couple of cup games last year and looked slightly out of form having not played for ages, shock. It was nice seeing him play against Liverpool and we might need a keeper to pull out the odd worldie which he's capable of (although Muric also showed that against City).

Good competition.

True as this may be (and I have no reason to doubt that it is true, although is a little sad for Hladky if they really did mess him about), if anyone really wanted him to still be a the club, then he would be.

A key part of one of the best seasons we’ll ever have, but I just don’t think we’d have got similar or greater returns from him. Time was right to say thank you and goodbye.

Surely makes more sense to release Walton, and offer Hladky the new 2 year deal bearing in mind we know he is a much better fit for how we like to play?

Whaaat??? But he’s no good. Weren’t we in for three keepers this Summer to replace everyone when everyone left because everyone weren’t good enough!? Will he be number one before the season is out? There’s a chance…

Joe, Didn't we sign Walton on a new deal in the summer?

Are we possibly just doing the Chelsea thing of making it look better for the books?

I just don’t think Hladky is better, he just had the shirt by possession last year and didn’t lose it.

Plus McKenna always talks about attributes in a squad - not sure there is room for two keepers as wacky as Hladky and Muric!

Or keep both and save the £8m we spent on Muric.

Offering terms like that also says to me that we wasn’t particularly serious at trying to keep him either, so clearly felt it was a position we wanted to upgrade on.

I always thought we would sign a new number 1 this summer. It was just a case of releasing Hladky and keeping Walton as number 2, or visa versa.

The only clear thing i have noticed is that very few on here know much about gk's.

it's a lonely spot.

Give 'em a break. We have and have had some great ones in the last few years. Walton is good. Vaz is good Muric is good. Who is best? Depends on the day and other stuff..like the sun shining in the eyes or Beryl shouting a proposal from the stand or a seagull shi---g on your shoulder.

A role for a maverick. We have 3. (Slicker-inc)

Not writing Muric off, but if Walton has a real desire to be a PL keeper, then his best bet might be here putting pressure on Muric.
Muric could turn out to be a absolute legend, here but could easily be a disaster. Enter Walton if Muric has a couple more off-days.

Walts needs to keep practicing his footwork - only thing that worries me is he doesn't naturally fit in with the playing out from the back style.

Hladky was better in the Championship with the style we played there, dependent on having a keeper brilliant with his feet who could bait the press all game long, game after game, and where we could outscore the opposition.

Whilst I'm sure we'll keep doing that to some extent our keeper(s) this year are going to have to be more commanding, more communicative and crucially be able to cope with setbacks and making mistakes. I'm not sure Hladky had the defensive capabilities or the personality to be able to maintain his high standards under the increased pressure, brilliant as he was last year.

That wasn’t quite the version I heard from a source, their side of things suggested that Hladky’s agent had got in his ear and he was asking for too much money, in fact more money than Morsy was on.

Agree. I think the telling thing is, if McKenna was convinced he needed Hladky as his number one, we would've made it happen.

Hasn't worked out particularly well for him - now the number 2 at a Championship club.
