After 6 games - where are we compared to your expectations? 17:46 - Sep 30 with 2447 viewsDubtractor

Being realistic, I did fear we may struggle to get a foothold at the start of the season, a tough opening and a lot of squad changes playing into that. As good as we've been over the last 2 seasons, the jump up to this league is huge, and I was mainly just looking for us to be competitive in games whilst we found our feet.

Whilst we'd all like a win soon, I'm hugely impressed with what we've done so far, especially at home. We've kept a reasonably tight defence (Man City aside), starting to click in terms of chance creation, and gone 4 games unbeaten. It was really noticeable how much better we were in transition yesterday, with our counter attacks creating a number of chances, whereas in previous games we gave possession back far too easily.

So, in summary, I think we're slightly ahead of where I expected us to be at this point.

Literally it's gone exactly as I thought.

2 losses then draws all the way until mid November.

Then we win 4 on the bounce. Lose a couple then win then lose then draw 3. Then win 5 then lose 3.

I thought we'd have 4 points..... on 17:51 - Sep 30 with 2372 viewsBloots

....but not in the way we've got them to be honest.

Performance wise I'd say we are ahead of where I thought we'd be, in as much as we have been more competitive than I expected at this stage.

The next 4 games are big ones, we could do with a win as soon as possible, even if just for more confidence, and I expect we'll get at least one if not 2 in the next 4.

If we can get past 10 points after 10 games then that will be a decent start.

I thought we’d have picked up a win by now, and arguably we should/could have done against Fulham or Villa. Fine margins and hopefully those fine margins won’t bite us on the arse when it comes to points and staying up.

We’re playing well though, the new players are starting to settle and there’s lots to be positive about.

Bearing in mind, I think we will win the league every season...

....I underestimated the speed and quality of this league, although if I'm honest, my underestimation has been more of the teams we played after the first two.

I thought we may have between 8 - 10 points by now and then have a slump, so, I got it wrong. I thought we might for example have got a surprise win over Liverpool.

I look at it right now and I am very impressed by the performances but I worry that the first win is needed soon before it becomes an albatross.

I think it's a fantastic start based of who we have played and how we have played and the fact that we have improved gives credence to the idea that as a squad we will only get better due to inexperience of the league and there being so many new players.

I certainly didn't expert more than 4 points from the 6 games we've played but the manner in which we have played is ahead of my expectations. Yesterday v Villa was as good as I've seen us play in many a year considering the strength of the opposition.

The no win thing doesn't bother me (yet). If some one said you could have 1 win 1 draw and four defeats or 4 draws 2 defeats i'd take the 4 draws everytime!

4 unbeaten after the opening two games is impressive and pundits have finally acknowedged it.

We obvioulsy definitely need a win from the next 4 to get the monkey off our back so to speak and ideally a couple.....that would really get our season going and hopeflly begin to see a little gap opening up from the bottom 3. Still veyr early days though.

Performance wise, the Villa game confirmed to me that we will be competitive in this league.

Wasn't expecting a lot from city or Liverpool. Just hoping we held our own rather than get humiliated. Especially when you look at the team we put out in the early games. Mostly the team that played in league one or championship as most of the important signings happened late in the window so had little time to bed them into a squad.

Very happy but now need to jump the next hurdle and get a win to put a bit of room between us and the bottom three.

Plus we have played five top half teams and only Southampton from the bottom half.

Let's do a job on the hammers this week to make people realise we are a Prem' team and not just here to avoid relegation.

Around par for me - with such a step up, and so many new players I thought we’d grow into the season. They’ve done really well to be fair and surprised many opposition fans who had us down as fodder to be thumped every week. The league is as tough as I expected, and as brutal in terms of punishing mistakes, we’ve been looking better each week which is more than you can say for some of our relegation rivals.

What I find slightly bizarre is how a lot of fans of rival Championship teams from last season are so bitter. The English way is to root for the underdog, but many seem to want us to get battered by the big 6 mafia. It’s weird.

Points wise, about what I expected, maybe 2 less as I thought we'd beat Southampton and maybe have lost to Brighton.

Performance wise, much better than I thought.

I actually made a prediction for the first six before a ball was kicked so haven't been too far out in any really. I did have City as 5-0 initially and changed it after Liverpool though.

Liverpool (H) 1-3
Man City (A) 0-4
Fulham (H) 2-1
Brighton (A) 1-2
Southampton (A) 2-1
Aston Villa (H) 1-2

Thought we'd have six points and that we'd be adventurous enough we'd win 1 in every 3 and lose the other 2. Thought we'd have got a few more goals and conceded a few more.

I didn't see 4 draws coming and 4 matches unbeaten. So even though I thought we'd have more points, we were only a late winner against Villa or Fulham, you can say we probably deserved to get one in at least one game, away from where we'd be.

I had hoped for a win and two draws and dreamt of two wins and a draw.

I feared one or two points and more importantly a runaround by these teams. I had no idea where we stood.

Overall, I’m happy. We are competitive against all bar the obvious few. And we will improve. Lastly, we have squad strength. We have a real chance of staying in this division and after Sunday, I’ve a sneaky feeling we might do a little better than that.

Who was that dude who got the first five scores bang on on another thread - or has that come out of my 'dreams'?

I thought we'd have two or four points, so I'm happy. But I'm much more than happy based on the way we are playing and improving and settling in.

We're just 3 points off 11th and 5 off 10th, which is where I expect us to end up.

I think its a brilliant start. The first 2 games couldn't have been harder, and with a massive upheaval of players who hadn't played together, anything other than two losses to start would have been seismic. Since then, we're unbeaten - certainly didn't expect that.
But results aside, what really excited me yesterday was that for the first time the McKenna DNA was highly visible. What I mean by that is that our patterns of play form L1 and Championship were back - the interceptions high up the field, the quick interplay between players and brave, incisive passes, movement off the ball in anticipation. We've done that for 2 years , but now we have higher individual quality, and the new players have learned these movements. I really think this bodes well - we saw what McKenna could do with a squad where no one cost more than £1M. Now he has a squad of £15M players, and if he can get this group playing as a team that is greater than the sum of the parts, then the future is gonna be amazing.

Points wise, bang on for me. Performance wise, way ahead of where I thought we would be. Against Liverpool and even Man City, I didn't think we looked out of our depth. Since those opening 2 games, performance after performance have just got better and better. Sunday was absolutely fantastic and if we keep that level up, or even better, then we are going to be just fine.

I’m actually in ridiculous predictions form in a little game with my friends. I’ve got 6 out of 6 outcomes right and 4/6 scorelines. Correct scores were Liverpool 0-2, Fulham 1-1, Saints 1-1 and Villa 2-2. I had 3-1 City which we were minutes from, and I had 1-1 at Brighton.

I’m not much of a gambler though so haven’t put money on.

We need a win so that the squad is 100% sure we're improving week on week.
Confidence innit.
Next 2 home games are winnable.
Next 2 away games are drawable (is that even a word?)

After Sunday's game I'm really feeling positive. Villa are a champions league side and we really gave them a good game. Would not have been a travesty if we'd took the 3 pts either. If we can keep on the upward curve we're on in terms of performances then it won't be long before we bag a win or two. We've made some good signings but I think we were a bit hampered by most of them coming in at the back end of pre season, which didn't give the squad much time together before the league kicked off. But each week I think the team is playing with a better understanding. Delap is gonna bag a few goals this season for sure. Play like we did Sunday, we'll get some good results this season.

If I go with my head rather than heart we are roughly where I expected. Although I did expect a win by this stage. Never really thought we would get anything from the first 2 games but I thought home to Fulham and away to S'ton we would get one win from those two.
I think the next 4 games will give us a better indicator of where the season is heading.
