No. I would have liked an Englishman, but Tuchel is an upgrade on Carsley.

Except you can't call it 1925 any more, ever since the Kaiser stole our word for twenty.

Is Kaiser an offensive reference? I had no idea if so. I thought it was ok to reference his heritage but I’ll edit if I’ve misstepped?

I don't think so, today was obviously decent but then the very odd experiment with Greece balances it out a bit.

I also seemed to get the impression he didn't really enjoy it.

Kaiser isn’t in Germany as far as I know. It’s beckenbauers nickname. I know a bloke who was in a German lads mag and billed as “the kaiser of king fu” over there. Just means King after all.

I always thought it was a leadership reference. I’m sure one of those not happy will put their objections across.

It actually means 'emperor' rather than 'king' - etymologically it's derived from the Roman word Caesar (as is the Russian 'tsar').

Nothing offensive about it as a reference in Germany as far as I'm aware.

Again, this is my take, Pique. When the world referred to Beckenbauer as Die Kaiser, I’m pretty sure it was a compliment.

I’m confident that one of the three that didn’t like it will be able to put me right though.

...just said it was irrelevant.

It's all a bit "The Sun" to constantly be referring to his nationality.

Strictly speaking, "emperor", being a Germanification of "Caesar". Much the same as Russian Tsar/Czar.

In the late Roman Empire, a Caesar was the junior partner to the Augustus, the most senior ruler, with one pair for the Eastern (Constantinople) and Western (Rome/Ravenna) halves. Tho things often got a lot messier than that as it dissolved into rebellions, coups and breakaway states.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
