Hirst out for 6 weeks 23:04 - Nov 17 with 19989 views | DinnernotTea | According to some virgin on twitter. Said person won't disclose what the injury is but is being smug about it so I guess it's true.

Hirst out for 6 weeks on 20:21 - Nov 18 by SheffordBlue | That just suggests the injury was identified during the medical - not that we knew about it going into the medical. Pretty sure that came as a surprise to everyone - including Chelsea who had him training with the loan squad. |
Omg. We did know about it. Everyone knew about his injury. What town medical found was another one which resulted in the change of terms request. Hence why Chelsea arranged their own one as they didn't agree with towns version.

Hirst out for 6 weeks on 20:05 - Nov 18 by FrimleyBlue | No need. Just sharing my view on his failing. If I'm expected to applaud what he does I'm entitled to be critical when he fails. |
His failing? Sorry, I’m struggling to pin down exactly where he has ‘failed’ beyond the acquisition of a crystal ball and a magic wand. I’m also struggling to understand your expectations. 12 players signed. Not enough? Haaland not picked up? Was that the fail? The squad is allowed limited numbers they did their best to bridge the gap. No, we are not going to qualify for Europe. Yes, we may well get relegated, but they are trying. They’re working at it and there is a Jan transfer window. What more did you want? You used the word failing and fails in two short sentences. Do you want him out? Gone? get rid? Closed question, yes or no. There’s a fans forum coming up. Get in there and challenge him. It’s your opportunity. If you are busy, write to him and please let us know his reply.

What was the injury that we were supposed to know about? We knew he'd rehabbed from his ACL but what new injury did he pick up on the preseason tour that we all knew about? [Post edited 18 Nov 2024 20:38]

As I remember it you're spot on. He was on the bench for Chelsea's August friendly against Man City, with news of our talks emerging in mid-August. He'd featured at the end of Chelsea's PL season, for Romania in the Euros, and in the Wrexham friendly on 25th July. Fans were worried about how little football he'd played since his ACL and if he'd be able to return to similar heights after it, plus risk of recurrence, but we weren't aware of the new problem, later discovered to be an Achilles issue. We fans were shocked that Chelsea could be so negligent as to not know their player was suffering with a problem, even given their basket-case, 1000-player reputation. I'm of the mind that the summer striker situation amounted to a small 'f' failure - it was a very clear goal of ours to bring in another 9 and we didn't achieve it, which is a pill many clubs find themselves swallowing over a transfer window. Lots of successes, one clear failure. We were commendably ambitious with our targets but arguably should have lowered our sights earlier, if Latte Lath was an acceptable alternative, as it's likely that deal was only scuppered by the absence of time on Boro's part. My guess is that Broja was a really tantalising prospect for us and very hard to let go of, with his injury perhaps not the easiest to assess and with hope that we may amend the Chelsea terms significantly in our favour.

Do I want ashton gone? No. Do I think he's made mistakes along the way yes. Does that include failing in some aspects yes. You can fail at something and carry on you just make sure you rectify the situation when the opportunity presents itself. In this case, the January window. Your replies are a prime example of how people get tetchy on this forum for being critical of a member of the town set up. I've not mentioned Europe. Yet bizarrely you're bringing that in. So again. Quite simply. His task as ceo/chairman/head of recruitment was to source and sign a third striker. He failed. Simple as that. Why do I need to challenge him? I'm not his boss. But don't worry. I'll stick to the rules and just clap everything he does as he's the messiah and anything else is seen as an expectation of Europe.

I think you will find in my post(s) words that say mistakes have been made. He has said recently mistakes have been made. Even if they are not his, as CEO he is accountable. I put that in context of what the club has done and is trying to do. You settled for the word fail/failing twice in two very short sentences. Surely failure is grounds for parting of the ways. You are a supporter. No support, no club. You have the right to challenge him publicly or in writing. What’s to lose? You are unhappy. Go for it. I am not tetchy in the least. Just puzzled as to the words and conclusions you have reached. This failure - maybe I’ve missed something. The mention of Europe was to understand what your expectations were. Clearly 12 players wasn’t enough. Indeed, he is CEO/Chairman, not head of recruitment but he’s still accountable for the running of the club. A third striker? I presume AAH is the tea lady. We also have other players who can play there but I’ve already said on many occasions it would have been good to have another striker, if we could find one. But we couldn’t and didn’t. We all know that even if we don’t know all the reasons why - unless you do. If you do let’s hear it. Why not challenge him? According to you, he’s failed. Tell him. To his face. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind as long as you were polite, which I know you would be. Your final sentence seems a little tetchy. Nobody is happy clapping anyone. Nobody is beyond criticism (see first para) and you are the first person I’ve seen calling him a ‘messiah’. As for your expectation, tell us. Should we have signed Haaland, Foden, Palmer or Salah? Who was out there that was realistic and why didn’t we get it done? Perhaps you can ask Ashton. Anyway, we are not going to agree on this so let’s leave it there.

I have no need to ask him why. I don't care for the excuses. You seem to think you can't fail at one thing whilst succeeding at others. Bit bizarre but I know the game you're playing. If however I was saying he'd failed overall then you've have a point but this is specifically about this task. I don't feel the expectation of having 3 fit strikers to choose from that much of a reach. Maybe you do. Aah btw was all set to go on loan so no he wasn't deemed good enough to be that third striker. So 12 players wasn't enough as we didn't recruit what we needed to. Anyways. Nighty night.

Absolutely WB. That’s how I place it. There’s a sadness too in that I’d like to see Hirst play week in week out at this level. I think he has the ability to hurt teams. The concern is fitness. Is he robust enough to play at this level? He wouldn’t be the first not to be. Let’s hope he can be got right because he’s a terrific player. [Post edited 19 Nov 2024 11:21]

Hirst out for 6 weeks on 16:00 - Nov 18 by ArnieM | He’s had just two injuries since he’s been with us. Torn hamstring ( a bad injury)and a knee injury ( same leg? Not sure), where he missed 4 games. Don’t think he’s had any more than that . But hamstring injury will impact on knee control. So possibly linked. |
Yep so 3 injuries now. One kept him out half a season. The next ruined his pre season and kept him out the start of the season and now he is out for around 6 weeks. I'm a huge fan of George Hirst as a player, he is superb. But will be tough for him to get momentum going.

But he was interviewed yesterday for the EADT and made no mention of being injured. Very strange.
