I may be due a woosh, but I thought Badger was being sarcastic with that bit. Not everything has to be literal (although it probably has to be in the Express).

Like not being able to go and live in the Mediterranean sunshine unless you have a quarter of a million to spend on a house there plus an annual income that is at least double your state pension...but have a happy, cold, wet, retirement anyway.

Classic Brexiteer Argument Steps. 1. Brexit will be great, we'll get our freedom back. 2. Yay, we won, we're free (no I don't know what it really means but... we're free!) 3. No it's not exactly what I thought, but we won, get over it. 4. Yes it's a disaster, but it's done, just let it go.

As James O Brien said recently, Brexit must be the only 'great victory', where the supporters don't want to talk about it. They should be as enthusiastic as Norwich fans boasting about beating Bayern Munich, but it seems rather brexiters are ashamed of their great victory.

Whenever I ask a Brexiteer about the benefits of Brexit, I get some waffle about Taking back control, control from what I ask? It then descends into some incoherent rant that has nothing to do with Brexit. Even their messiah Farage can't offer a benefit, all he's saying now is that there are no benefits because the Tories messed it up I mean the brass neck of it.

Farage is the master of waffle. He says lots of things confidently, but when you drill down to the details... well there aren't really any. When he retires from politics (please God let it be soon) he could earn a decent pension being the face of Birdseye Potato Waffles.

The concerning thing about him is that he seems to be getting more and more popular as each day passes, Reform seem to be growing in popularity and neither the Tories or Labour know how to deal with him, which is simple, just call out his lies. Don't know why they are so afraid of the grifter.

He's like an opposition leader on crack - can promise the world without ever having to deliver on anything, and do it with a pint and cigar in his hand to seem like one of the people. People seem to like that... but people are fooled into thinking actors are the real thing every day. Why deal with the harsh realities of life and politics, when this cheeky chap over here's promising us a silvery moon on a golden stick?

Talking of lies, your man Starmer was recently bragging that the UK economy would be the fastest growing out of all G7. It’s shrunk over the last two months, now he’s had to row back on that boast. U turn Keir.

"Economists cautioned about placing too much emphasis on the reading for October. It is an initial estimate of economic growth by the ONS and could be revised. Over the three months to October, the economy expanded by 0.1%." Anything can look bad (or good) if you cherrypick the right bits. In what way has Keir done a "U turn"?

Well let’s take just one example. Vauxhall at Luton. From the Indy:: ‘Andrew Graves, a professor at the University of Bath with over 50 years’ experience within the UK car industry, said the other long-running problem is Brexit. Leaving the EU has added extra expense and red tape in importing and exporting cars, and made things harder for the multinational owners of Britain’s car plants like Stellantis, Nissan and JLR’s parent company Tata. “If you’re not in the EU, you’re at a major disadvantage,” he says. Donald Trump’s presidency and its looming tariffs will also likely hit the UK car industry – it is one of Britain’s major export markets. Mr Graves adds: “For us, of course, being a small island outside the European Union, we’re really vulnerable to tariffs, because we have little or no economic power on our own, unless we’re part of Europe. So it’s some dangerous days ahead, I’m afraid.’ Ok, one man’s view, but it doesn’t take a genius to work out that if you throw up barriers and red tape, companies are going to find other places to do business over time if they can. For small businesses both ways in Europe it’s even worse. The impact of border controls into this country is yet to be truly felt and lack of them has carried its own risks. What may happen is summarised in the attached link: https://ukandeu.ac.uk/explainers/the-uks-border-with-the-eu/ Changing production and trading patterns take time, but change they will. It's hard to let something go when current polling shows even a majority of people who voted Brexit want back into the single market and would accept freedom of movement for that: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/dec/12/majority-of-brexit-voters-would Are these Brexit voters "wetting the bed" as well? Boomers voted in highest percentages for Brexit. They were the shamed generation (no wars to fight), so it sort of makes sense that they're itching for a fight against other countries. And to hell with consequences, especially if it means some hardship (spirit of the blitz!). That's the way I manage thinking about how it happened, anyway.
