It looked well off side, we thought only reason for it standing is if the ball deflected off a Bristol player as he got the ball.

They either missed the touch from AAH or thought it was a touch from a Rovers player. Either way it was a mistake.

Was Taylor’s goal massively offside? on 22:56 - Jan 12 with 2618 views | Guthrum | To be fair, Taylor looked to see if the flag was up before putting it in the net. The Ref was in a very good position to have spotted whose foot it hit and he didn't correct the lino.

would still be offside. It only becomes onside if it's a deliberate pass from the defender
Was Taylor’s goal massively offside? on 10:59 - Jan 13 with 1727 views | OldFart71 | As we have seen with VAR it seems to be so much interpretation of the rules. I would say according to what happened it was deemed he was played on by the ball touching a defender. Watch the Arsenal v Man Utd and a very similar thing happened where the ball was played on by Harry Maguire and the Arsenal goal was denied by an offside call. Far too many decisions whether VAR or by referees don't go the same way two games running. A trip, a shoulder barge, one is a penalty, one isn't. Handball is similar. As humans we all jump differently. The offside rule is a farce and the fact that a linesperson has to wait to see if the offside player touches the ball and you can have several movements and passes in some cases before the flag goes up. The old rule where you had to have two players between the goal and attacker otherwise you are offside, unless of course you are inside your own half, should be brought back. You are either offside or not. At the moment it's all down to interpretation by officials which leads to controversy.

This was my interpretation, it would have been difficult for the linesman to tell that had come of Ali and not their defender.

I think it would have been onside because Taylor looked onside from the original pass. So it was either: - AAH touched it - offside (what actually happened) - BR defender touched it - onside (because Taylor was onside when the original pass was played) - no one touched it - onside
Was Taylor’s goal massively offside? on 11:52 - Jan 13 with 1520 views | GeoffSentence | Amusingly, BBC have credited Al-Hamadi with the assist for it. If AAH did get a touch, and he did didn't he, then that's a mile offside.

Was Taylor’s goal massively offside? on 12:25 - Jan 13 with 1389 views | ipswichtillidie | The officials thought the original ball through into the town player wasn’t touched. But the pass was flicked on and subsequently left Taylor 3 yards offside. It looks an awful decision but the because the flick wasn’t picked up on but the Lino/Ref the flag never materialised.

That's definitely not how it works. If a through ball got played and it bounced off a defender into our player's path, it would be onside as long as the player was onside when the original ball was played (which I think he was). But as it stood, it was a 'pass' from AAH, and he was 100% offside for that.
