We have a core of a league 1 team in the prem because we didn't recruit enough better quality players in the summer despite the large number we did sign anyway. And that core consists of players who came from the championship first anyway.
League 1 and the money spent promotion was minimum requirement that season.
Championship. Now that wasn't expected that season. But it's only 1 season quicker than I thought personally. [Post edited 18 Jan 16:56]

People were suggesting Davis for England not long ago. 2/3 of our back 3 cost about £15m each. Godfrey is likely to make up the rest of the back 3 before long. 2 central midfielders on Thursday are on loan from Napoli and Man City. Hutchinson cost £20m, Delap about the same and has been linked with Chelsea and other big clubs. Philogene has come in now for £20m, a £9m keeper on the bench, £15m Clarke on the bench, £10m on Szmodics. The core is now firmly top Championship level at least. We’ve got a manager on £100k a week who Brighton & Chelsea were sniffing round in the summer. I think the core was true at the start of the season, but I would be surprised if we see much more than 3 of our L1 squad starting together in most games from here on in. They’re more the fringe now than the core.
We’re definitely ahead of where we expected to be, but now we’re as strong or stronger on paper than Leicester & Southampton I would say, and results have suggested that’s the case over the past couple of months.
Hopefully they keep being sh1t and it becomes a question of a shootout with Wolves (maybe Everton too). 17 games left and we need to get 1 point more than wolves, that’s how it’s looking. And we can do it. Those come games against Saints and Wolves are huge when you consider we might ‘only’ be looking at 5 or so more wins needed. |  | | |

I do feel bad about it as we had to make the changes but I do feel for the original core. Won promotion, and a few aren't going to really get a chance from now. But it probably had to be done. | |

Yeah he was. They’re also unbelievably entitled. Winning the league was an amazing achievement with everything coming together at the right time, Vardy hitting his peak, the arrival of Kante, etc. Thoroughly deserved. But that’s a bit of a freak - it’s not often when everything comes together. Even harder to the sustain and replicate; something they’ve been struggling with for a few years now. Where they are is a fair reflection of their level now. |  |
