KMs next move (tactics/formation) 21:56 - Jan 20 with 3005 views | textbackup | Probably unlikely he sets us up to do anything too ‘out there’ considering we face Liverpool this weekend, after that, starting with Southampton at home, we need to take the game to them and really go for it. As much as it’ll be disagreed with I’m sure, that game will be deemed as a must win (if we have any real hopes of staying up) One thing is for sure, if we are going to try for the win, we HAVE to get players up in support with Delap/Omari/Philogene have the ball and are the most advanced, as it’s becoming rather painful and repetitive watching those two get little to no support. I’d be inclined to start J.Taylor that game I think, gets about the pitch and has an eye for goal.

KMs next move (tactics/formation) on 22:00 - Jan 20 with 2935 views | Blue_Heath | Spot on, Liverpool is about damage limitation to goal difference. Southampton is without doubt a must win as Mick Mills would say, no question!
KMs next move (tactics/formation) on 22:03 - Jan 20 with 2899 views | SitfcB | Tuanzebe should be back starting next week. Keep Burgess in as well. Just defend, park the bus whatever and hope for the odd counter attack. Southampton is definitely a MUST WIN. It’s more than that as well. Need a comfortable win.

KMs next move (tactics/formation) on 22:04 - Jan 20 with 2880 views | Illinoisblue | Saints is undeniably a must win game. Not a game where a draw would be in any way a good result. They’re already down and on the beach so will be loose as anything. We need to be on the front foot and take it to them. Billy Jean to run riot.

I’ll take a 1-0 vs Southampton… if we take a hiding at anfield (expected) then lose to Southampton, I think there would be a shift of atmosphere at PR. Wouldn’t be the right thing to do, I might add, but you could see it happening. Won’t need to worry tho, as we draw 1-1 Saturday and beat Southampton. Then draw at Villa and do the double over spurs

Next week is truly just a ‘enjoy the experience’ kind of day haha. But you never know, anything can happen and there’s always that little bit of faith/hope. I’ll take all of that!! And then beat Utd!! [Post edited 20 Jan 22:31]

Mick, is that you?! 😂 I’d normally be of the opinion that the best form of defence is attack, however, after the City game we cant afford to get thrashed again.

KMs next move (tactics/formation) on 22:23 - Jan 20 with 2651 views | Swansea_Blue | We do get players up the pitch at times. But we probably don’t do it enough, so I broadly agree. There were a couple of times yesterday when the ball was played up to Delap and rather than take the simple option of laying the ball back to Morsy or Cajuste, he turned and ran into trouble. I love his lung busting runs leaving a trail of flailing opposition players in his wake, but he needs to pick his moments. We’re at our best as a team. It’s harder in this league though. We’re very vulnerable to the counter when we do commit players forward, especially as we’re committing our full backs/wing backs. Fulham’s equaliser is a perfect example.

I’m glad you said it, because the downvote crew would have jumped all over me… you are so right about Delap, and personally think that’s why these £60-£100m price tags we read on here are insane. He’s got some much to work on still. Seems hell bent on turning every time, only has goal in his vision (which is fine for a striker of course) but I’d like to see him maybe look up for that better pass at times. That said, he might trust himself taking the shot more than his team mate to then find him again in the box.

Even my 7 year old says he’s greedy! All stemmed from that time he didn’t pass to Davis, lost it and then we conceded, can’t remember who it was against, it was at home - he’s been slightly better since then tbf. I shouted out a couple of times yesterday about him making the simple pass instead of trying a flick or a run and then losing it.

If they're already down they will play with freedom, and they owe us one, especially at PR. It's a horrible game to think about for me. The expectation on it will be monstrous and sadly I think that'll be the reason we don't win it. It's got 1-1 written all over it.

Most of his good moments so far have been when he’s operated alone. I might be completely wrong, but off the top of my head I can’t think of more than 1/2 assists he’s got to his name? I dare say, if Hirst had remained fit, and played the mins Delap had, he’d have a good 6/7 (but then maybe not the goals LD has)

I'd probably go Muric Godfrey TZ O'Shea Burgess Davis Phillips Morsy Broadhead Hutchinson Delap Honestly very tempted to just give Cajuste a game off ahead of Saints. I don't even know anymore. I'd like to assume we'll keep the three at the back for this game then revert back to our usual for Southampton. Southampton is a must win. I suspect even McKenna will break his usual to admit that. Sooner or later we.ll have to change formation and tactics. Goals win matches. Why play defensively and still lose. We need pace and players to give us an outlet to get the ball forward. We have to stop playing too much in our own half and stop hesitating when we do get forward . Walton Tuanzebe Godfrey. O Shea Townsend Hutchinson Taylor Broadhead Davis Philogene Delap [Post edited 21 Jan 0:17]

Southampton is absolutely must win and I will fight anyone who says it isn't. I'd also say Leicester and Wolves are too. I just hope our players don't succumb to the pressure because that Saints game is the only one that they will feel the fans 'demanding' a win and also knowing they have to. I know we are only in the bottom three on GD but if we don't take anything from those three mentioned games then we are relying on pulling some Spurs or Chelsea shaped rabbits out of the hat again and I don't even think that will be enough. Wolves, I feel, are much more likely than us to pick up those routine wins. You know, those 2-1's v Bournemouth, Fulham, Palace etc. We have to fight tooth, nail and more besides for those. Not a criticism, it's just how it is and how the modern game has made it. [Post edited 21 Jan 5:18]

I think must-win is somewhere in the middle. For example, saying that Leicester at home in November was a must-win is crazy, but equally waiting until we need to win every game to reach 35 points is equally ridiculous. IMO Soton on 1st Feb is a must-win, as we need at least 5 more wins and after Liverpool still have to go to Villa, Chelsea, Newcastle and face Arsenal at PR.
KMs next move (tactics/formation) on 06:41 - Jan 21 with 1774 views | phillev231069 | I'm no football tactician (My FIFA results prove that 😂) but yeah we just need to be as organised as possible, no mistakes they can take advantage of and maybe hope for a swift counter and nab a goal from out of nowhere after Liverpool have 90% possession.... Now wouldn't that be nice.
KMs next move (tactics/formation) on 10:15 - Jan 21 with 1529 views | seblue78 | It's got to be the established 5-2-2-1 for Liverpool. I'd go Muric in goal as to me he just edges it as a shot stopper and that's likely to be vital in that one. Fairly relaxed about the 3CB combo (Greaves did well in the first game against them so might just edge the LCB berth). I'd also possibly go with Sammy and KP as Cajuste has looked miles off it last couple and may be struggling with fitness having been so impressive prior to that. I'd probably favour Burns over Johnson based on the last couple and the fact we'll be counter-attacking. And hope that JP, Omari (if fully fit) and Liam have enough up top to trouble them. Jack Clarke and Broady to come on at 60-70 with fresh legs. For the Saints 4-2-3-1 with Axel RB, O'Shea and Greaves in the middle. Morsy and Cajuste. SS or Chappers (if fit) as the 10, with JP and Omari causing havoc on the wings and Liam up-top.

It's worth the same points whether we win comfortably or through a 96th minute deflected winner. I don't see what difference it makes. I think the relief will boost morale regardless.
