Ali 10:08 - Jan 21 with 11126 views | Parky | Rumoured to be having a medical at West Brom today. Does that mean we’ve got somebody lined up? Despite seeing how much he’s struggled, would be a huge gamble going into the final part of the season with just Delap and Hirst as our strikers.
Ali on 11:23 - Jan 21 with 2526 views | BlueandTruesince82 | Let's remember where he came from, he always signed with development and profit in mind and he was catching the eye of plenty of other clubs. We never expected to be PL this season so we've moved beyond where we thought we'd be. Time on loan will be much needed, he has to get games to develop and Mogga is great coach for that. Hope he plays loads and gets some goals. Hope we have something exciting lined up too

Agreed. I'm slightly concerned he won't see much game time at WBA. He could be a L1 regular starter, but I can't see it at WBA. But it sounds like they have some injury issues, so if they are long-term then maybe he'll play lots.

Ali on 11:10 - Jan 21 by textbackup | Few things have gone through my head… - he’s experienced training that he’ll likely never experience again, and he’s not improved at all. - maybe we should have loaned him out at the start of the season regardless of having a third striker - (as Joe has said) I don’t even think him going means we have someone lined up, I think they’ve all sat down and realised he’s miles off what we need, so we are better off playing a number of players ahead of him (in a position they might not be familiar with - which speaks volumes) - hope it works out for him, but doubt he’ll achieve anything at championship level. - happy I wont see him play for us again |
Your 1st point is very harsh and actually pretty difficult to assess with him only getting cameo appearances at a level that is clearly above where he is at now. Your last point is quite possibly incorrect as he is only going on loan. If Ali does well at WBA and ( god forbiid ) we go down, there is every chance we will see him again.

Ali on 11:51 - Jan 21 with 2131 views | OldFart71 | An interesting position for Town to be in. In theory they have three strikers. Delap, Hirst and Szmodics. To get better than Hirst or Szmodics would cost £30-£40 million and bearing in mind that the season is on a knife edge there's no way we will be spending that sort of money especially when I don't see it as much a priority as midfield. Basically we only have two players good enough and they are Cajuste and Morsy who isn't getting any younger and it's debatable he is now mobile enough for the Premier league. Phillips just hasn't cut the mustard and neither has Taylor and Luongo is the same as Morsy, not mobile enough.

Maja is out for a while apparently. Think this will be a good move for him. He’s far more likely to thrive in a side that is challenging for top 6 rather than battling relegation

IMO he doesn’t play for us again. That’s what I based my thoughts on. I highly doubt he features for WBA much more than 10 sub appearances. I think this time next year he’ll be playing in L1

Is his first point harsh? He hasn't improved in a year. Yes, it's a far higher level - but I can't see anything from him to suggest he's improved. And the best judge of all is Mr. McKenna. He wants to replace our best asset, Delap, after 60-70 minutes..... but is getting increasingly more distrustful of AAH and prefers to flog Delap longer and longer so that he can stick AAH on for only 5-10 minutes. He was a punt ( and a relatively cheap one) so let's all move on.
Ali on 12:08 - Jan 21 with 1909 views | pointofblue | This sounds harsh but not sure if he's good enough to be an important player for a team chasing promotion. Town went up due to Moore, not AAH. Hope he proves me wrong.

It was stated that Ali has been carrying an injury up until very recently, and this has probably limiting how hard he can train. It's unfair to judge him if he's been injured for many months, and not able to train fully. Only time will tell...

I think it is, yes. He was signed as a proven L2 player that had the potential to be a Champ player and and while the jump up to the prem has clearly been too much I dont think we can fully assess wether or not our training has improved him as a player. Add to this that he has been injured for a fair chunk of that time and had very limited starts, and I think it is almost impossible to make that statement. Lets see how he does at WBA, we will have a better idea where he is at after this loan spell. Personally I hope he smashes it. [Post edited 21 Jan 13:44]

Ali on 12:20 - Jan 21 with 1784 views | bsw72 | Considering we all know that he is still struggling with his groin issue - why would a championship club chasing for promotion gamble on him. I can see maybe a club looking to avoid relegation or League one pushing for play-offs would take a chance.

Ali on 12:28 - Jan 21 with 1691 views | Swailsey | Wishing him the best of luck. Didn’t look totally out of place last season and if some of our best players have struggled to adapt this year, it’s no surprise he has too. Clearly was playing when unfit due to Hirst being out, and with the exception of Man Utd where it looked like he was literally running in stone boots, always gave his best and was a trier. It wasn’t his fault he went from L2 to Liverpool in 6 months. [Post edited 21 Jan 12:29]

I hope he smashes it too. For all my opinions of him as a player, you can’t question the guys attitude really. To make it out of a war torn Iraq, growing up in Liverpool, he’s not short of a few stories I’m sure!
