Enciso Philogene Hutchinson Chaplin Szmodics Broadhead Clarke You'd think there's going to be someone moving out.

What's up with Sammie? | | | |
Is Enciso needed? on 19:17 - Jan 21 with 3410 views | gainsboroughblue | I'm kind of excited, kind of borderline frustrated we may not be focusing on areas we are obviously requiring tightening up on. I'm trusting the process and hoping we are looking elsewhere too.

I say some time, we're probably talking 4-6 weeks, but that's another 4+ games missed likely. He's a quick healer like most of our boys, so he won't be too long.

Szmodics is proably back in training by now. Kieran said he wasn't far away at the end of last week.

KM said he wasn't too far away the other day...quite the turnaround if that's the case. I just think there's other areas, like CM, that'd be far more pressing to get someone in imo

Is Enciso needed? on 19:22 - Jan 21 with 3219 views | Dubtractor | We've got a lot of players for that position, but I'd argue that a number of them look unlikely to provide the difference to win us games. I love Chappers, but he isn't a premier league player. Clarke has obviously struggled, Szmodics has scored a few goals, but all round play can be a bit scrappy. Bottom line is that we don't score enough goals, and we don't create enough good chances. We either stick with what we have and hope it clicks, or we add a little extra sugar and give ourselves the best chance of staying up.

There are limits on squad numbers but with Encisco being only 20 I guess he wouldn't need a slot (or is a loan different?)

As other people have said in this thread,He will (hopefully) be an upgrade on Chappers. I love Chaplin but unfortunately there is no real room for sentiment,so he looks an obvious one to be slowly phased out...

Exactly. We aren't scoring enough goals so we have signed attacking players. Makes sense really

Yes, all loans count regardless of age.

Especially with Premier League experience and he has plenty of that.

I'd argue they're not getting the ball much because central midfield is a weak area where we are being dominated. [Post edited 21 Jan 19:29]

Indeed. But we have an issue in obtaining possession in the first instance to make use of these more attacking players and when we have it, too often our transition is too sideways, back, sideways, back. [Post edited 21 Jan 19:32]

I'd argue Szmodics, from what we've seen, is less of a Premier League player than Chaplin. Maybe a bit harsh as he's not had the chance to play in his favoured position but, when fit, I actually think Chaplin actually has been best, to date, of linking midfield to Delap. Again, it feels like we'll be moving on someone from last year's squad without any proof the replacement is a true upgrade.

Is Enciso needed? on 19:34 - Jan 21 with 2723 views | Samuelowen88 | As he's under 20 and doesn't count towards squad number, does he also not count towards the loan rule?

Is Enciso needed? on 19:34 - Jan 21 with 2713 views | NeverSayDie | Out of that list (Enciso aside) only Clarke hasn’t recently been injured, or is still injured, or is returning from injury and we weren’t creating enough when they were fully fit and available, so the answer is a resounding YES.
Is Enciso needed? on 19:36 - Jan 21 with 2619 views | SheffordBlue | He won't count towards the squad cap due to age and it's an area we've consistently had players out due to injury this season - possibly due to the pressing demands we put on those AM rules. Gives us an upgrade and additional depth in that department for me.

Could our thinking now be that with Hirst and Delap fit we have Szmodics as the third choice striker if needed?

If we are judging players by the Newcastle game then we need to replace the entire eleven who started. No one came out of that game with any credit. I'm not advocating this btw. Just have a hunch that is the club's thinking and we will strengthen elsewhere.
