Bag policy at ground 12:32 - Jan 26 with 3722 viewsvictorysquad

Anyone else got caught out by this?

Had to use their bag drop off as our rucksack was considered ‘too big’ to take in the ground!

Delayed us 45 mins having to queue up after the game

We do not usually travel with a bag, but is this normal?

Poll: If we sing for 90 mins for all remaining games, how many points is it worth?

Yes. Most grounds have an A4 bag size limit. Liverpool is A5. Info was in ITFC's away guide, on the website for a couple of weeks before each game.

Yep the requirements were tiny and with the bag drop being at a church thought a donation might have been the way rather than £5. Don’t think we have any such rules at PR.

Man City and Spurs were £10 each to do the same but increasingly a thing at larger grounds. Fortunately I was aware for this one as I stayed up there Friday night.

I pretty much always have a bag at PR so hoping we add no such annoyance.

My carrier bag was confiscated so me and Junior ended up with pockets full of fruit and biscuits.

They told us this on the coach when we arrived. Mother had to scramble to put everything in her pockets. Then when we got there others were going through with bags bigger than hers! Didn't seem very consistent.

What does A4 and A5 mean?

Equivalent to the paper size dimensions?

Yep. Not happy.

Five hours on car & train with a very flimsy backpack - one compartment and one zip. Managed to get to the ground 10 minutes before kick-off and the jobsworths said I had to use a bag drop. Having experienced a 2 hour wait at Wembley, that wasn't an option.

Ended up wearing every item of clothing and the still wouldn't allow an empty bag to go in.

On top of that, I have a 500ml bottle of water. "you can't take that in. It's been opened".

No bar, no grub, no atmosphere. Souless experience all round.

Having lived in Liverpool for three years in the 80's and been a regular at Goodison & Anfield, the afternoon was a massive disappointment regadless of the score.

Oh yeah, the view was surprisingly rubbish as well.

30cm cloth bag. left it for them to chuck in the bin.

First ever refusal at any ground.

Quite right too, carrier bags can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

Presumably, if carrying a water bottle, you keep a spare top in your pocket. Do the same with carrier bag, they fold up.

I got my rucksack in. The steward asked if I had any medical reason I needed a bag and I said I keep tablets in there plus my glasses.

She searched it and I showed her the ‘tablets’ and she stuck a thing on saying ‘medical reasons’.

The tablets were Gaviscon for heartburn.

At PR last week, the security guys were spouting "no bags bigger than A4". This was at the West Stand turnstiles. Maybe they are rolling it out stand by stand. Hope this helps.

Didn't have a bag, but was amazed at the number of stewards on the approach to the away turnstiles. Was there some sort of terror threat that I was unaware of?!

Have to say, getting on a plane to the USA was easier than getting in Anfield. My friend was chased down as his bag was slightly too large, even though flat. I asked the steward what people should do if they come on train and have spare clothes, keys etc and he was rude and just said read the blood information in advance.
Marshalled everywhere before - told to be single file on stairs, could not stop and take pics and then if you didn't move through the turnstiles quick enough or waited for someone you were snapped at.
And the amount of stewards around the pitch at the end

I can only assume Chelsea and Forest have already played there and they were worried about the snipers that seem to target Jota and Cucarella

like I said in another thread last week, guy in front of me had a A3 sized ruck sack, and they didnt even look in it, let alone tell him to drop it off somewhere. Im not sure why you got to a football game with such a bag anyway,

but its just more security theatre again, it doesnt make us safer, they arent stopping or preventing anything, and also quite daft from clubs point of view as inevitably people cant buy lots of merch in the merch shop on matchdays anymore as theyd not be able to take it into the ground...unless club bags are exempt & spot the flaw in that.

Saw loads of Liverpool fans with clear plastic bags from the shop and those were all allowed in. Several in the away end at arsenal had clear plastic bags from the shop and those were also allowed in.

They would be crazy to not allow match day purchases in

I had light cotton drawstring bag, about A4 size, folds up to about the size of a pack of cards.

In it was my Town shirt (had been in a home only pub pre-match), my scarf, a hat and a program,

“You can’t take that in, it’s too big” says the steward.

“Look there’s barely anything in it” I said, showing him inside the bag.

“Yeah, but it’s too big, you can’t take it in” he says.

“OK, no bother, I’ll put the stuff on, fold the bag up and shove it in my pocket” I said.

“But you’ll still have the bag, so I still won’t let you in” he says.

I suppose technically he’s correct, but seemed a bit of a surreal OTT interaction. I nipped round the corner out of sight, put the wearables on, made sure I went to a different steward 2nd time round and went straight through with no more than a couple of cursory pats.
