Is the season over already? 20:51 - Feb 2 with 2645 views | mutters | Reading a lot of posts this weekend it must be. Only 3 points behind 18th, realistically 4 points away from safety. 14 games left to play We didn't wait 22 years to just give up now. There is plenty of football left. Remember Leeds had won the league last season in Feb, look what happened there. Believe....

Is the season over already? on 20:57 - Feb 2 with 2440 views | Vic | Agree there’s a way to go and that we’re not far behind. But the way we’re playing and the seeming low confidence of some players don’t bode well for getting the points we need. So yes it’s possible, but I’m seeing very little to make me think we’ll escape now.

People are understandably upset after a woeful performance against arguably the worst side in premier league history…. And their few good players were all injured! You are correct, it’s not over.. but yesterday is the first time for a lot of people that they realised relegation seems inevitable, so if people want to sound off with like minded fans on a football forum…. Let them, without this continual judgement!

Is the season over already? on 21:10 - Feb 2 with 2333 views | Bigalhunter | I think the issue is, we’re not really seeing any indication that we are suddenly going to start picking up the points we’ll need. I genuinely don’t see KM radically changing anything, he virtually said as much yesterday. ‘We need to keep performing well, work hard and get stronger.’ Last season was different, as we entered February we still had a decent back catalogue of results in the bank. We have three wins in 24 this time and the same failings just materialise game after game. That midfield isn’t going to suddenly start creating chance after chance and we aren’t going to suddenly start keeping a clutch of clean sheets. We conceded loads last season, just found it easier to score 3 or 4 to hide that deficiency. You’re right, there’s plenty of games left, but much like Burnley last season, we aren’t giving even the slightest indication that we’re suddenly going to go on a good run and outpoint Wolves.

We have a manager who is still learning and on a huge learning curve this season. We crumbled in every game where we have played the so called beatable teams around us Leicester aside but crumbled when down to ten men. If truth be told it was always highly likely if not almost certain we'd go down, too many signings haven't worked and we don't know our best team and that's before we get into game management. Team spirit and momentum our two key ingredients are long gone. We don't have the quality to compete never mind survive.

Exactly this. Thanks for putting it so much better than I could!

Is the season over already? on 21:22 - Feb 2 with 2210 views | TheBoyBlue | I think that psychologically yesterday's result feels more than just a loss. If we can't beat the worst team in the division, possibly ever in the Premier League era and who didn't really show anything to dispel that reputation, then I just can't see where we are going to get enough points. Each game is one less for everything to click into place and if anything we seem to be regressing. That's not to say we won't and to still be as close as we are at this stage and having played Man City and Liverpool twice has been an achievement in the circumstances, but if we're going to continually blow opportunities to pick up points as we have done against teams around us then its difficult to imagine that suddenly changing.

Let's not manifest relegation in February. If it happens by season end then that will be that and can deal with that then. No point focussing on it yet when we've still fight in the game. Two of our wins have been big surprises against big clubs. There is life in the old Town dog.

Is the season over already? on 22:04 - Feb 2 with 2053 views | Garv | It's self preservation. It's likely we'll be relegated, but it's nowhere near confirmed yet and there is a long way to go. Luckily the management and squad will feel this way. Some fans just don't want to get their hopes up any more. If you can't beat or even take a point off the team rock bottom who were looking likely to beat Derby's points record, at home, it's going to knock confidence and belief massively. You can understand it.

Is the season over already? on 09:34 - Feb 3 with 1362 views | blueasfook | I think we are going to see same as last season with the three promoted teams going straight back down again. Which kinds of hits home I think that the gap between championship and premier league is becoming insurmountable. We've spent money and given it a go but ultimately we haven't been able to gain a foothold in this league along with Leicester and Saints.

Is the season over already? on 09:49 - Feb 3 with 1276 views | textbackup | It’s the confidence that is shot now for me. A win Saturday would have seen us buzzing, but losing in the way we did, yeah I think we’ll drop like a stone now. Obviously hope we don’t.

Is the season over already? on 09:49 - Feb 3 with 1277 views | berkstractorboy | As others have said its seemingly the lack of fight in the team that makes you think its over. It's not like we are a little off it in one area, we are off it all over the pitch suddenly. Contrast that to Wolves who we are competing with to stay up, they have only ever looked off it defensively and if they get that right now, well we know the rest. What I would hope for now is if there players have aspirations of wanting to be PL players next season with or without Town they start putting in some performances to put them in the shop window and maybe then we can go down with some pride.
Is the season over already? on 10:23 - Feb 3 with 1194 views | JakeITFC | Think the bigger problem on Saturday was the Wolves win (which was very well deserved). Just can't see us getting more points than them for the rest of the year, even if we were to beat them in April.

Is the season over already? on 12:54 - Feb 3 with 954 views | Tractor_Boy333 | Although it’s only a few points, it’s more about the players confidence or lack off. Losing to Southampton looks to have destroyed the last little bit that was left. We didn’t do anything after going behind Saturday and to stand any chance we now have to go to places like Villa or Utd and get results. That looks beyond us and Wolves are also picking up points. We have dropped too many points already to teams in the bottom half of the table and there’s now a gap opening up. I was still hopeful until Saturday but that was our last chance. The crowd and players all knew it.

Be interesting to see how Leeds fair next season, unless they fall apart again (Unlikely, but you never know!). That additional season in the Championship could make a difference. It's hard to say. We just haven't been quite good enough. No shame in that. This league is tough and to date we've come up a little short. Not quite given up yet though!

Is the season over already? on 14:08 - Feb 3 with 856 views | baxterbasics | In my mind, with no particular stats or quantitative analysis being utilised, just gut feeling, I've had our chances at about 50/50 for most of the season. After Brighton, City and Liverpool I dropped to 40/60, after Southampton I'm at 20/80. So agree it's not over, but just feels like the chance is slipping away in slow motion. Based on performances as much as results.

"so if people want to sound off with like minded fans on a football forum…. Let them, without this continual judgement!" In much the same way as Mutters has no? Though I wouldn't say Mutters has sounded off nor judged anyone. I'd say he was just trying to express some positivity.
