Hirst 17:01 - Feb 8 with 4177 views | LongLegs | Has had a really good game today. Forgotten how well he makes the team play with how he holds the ball up. We have missed that sometimes
Hirst on 17:07 - Feb 8 with 3863 views | RedX | Outstanding today.
Hirst on 17:11 - Feb 8 with 3787 views | textbackup | Such a great team player, and proper figurehead striker. I love Delap, but I think as a team we are better with Hirst up there.

Hirst on 17:40 - Feb 8 with 3644 views | ghostofescobar | I thought he should have started v soton. Underrated player imo. Every part of his game is excellent. If we can keep him fit………..

Hirst on 17:50 - Feb 8 with 3588 views | Garv | Wouldn't be at all upset to see him play at Villa.
| |
Hirst on 17:52 - Feb 8 with 3565 views | JammyDodgerrr | He makes the system work so much better. I'd start him next game.
| |
Hirst on 17:53 - Feb 8 with 3549 views | Bramidan | Why couldn’t we play him up front with Delap just outside of him?
Hirst on 18:10 - Feb 8 with 3456 views | DavoIPB | Huge difference between this level and premiership. He has more of an all round game but delap way stronger, quicker and better shot.
Hirst on 18:34 - Feb 8 with 3345 views | mutters | Absolutely. Delap was never bought to play that position, well maybe in time, but with Hirst's injury he was thrust into it and has done fantastically well. Hirst, if fit should have a good chance of starting as he does fit into the system fantastically, the problem is what do you do with Delap? We have so many vying for the other attacking roles nowadays

Hirst on 20:19 - Feb 8 with 3046 views | ringwoodblue | He’s a very good player. Just hope he can stay fit for the rest of the season especially with Sammie out, we don’t really have another backup for Delap.

Hirst on 21:16 - Feb 8 with 2902 views | SuperKieranMcKenna | Sorry missed this - was just praising him in another thread. Top notch again today really looked a class above Coventry’s players. If he stays fit he can be a real asset for our relegation battle, if not he’s going to be a key player for us in the Championship.
Hirst on 21:31 - Feb 8 with 2849 views | rickw | His movement especially was excellent. I can't see a system where we start both him and Delap because after 70 mins who comes on to play up front?
| |
Hirst on 22:44 - Feb 8 with 2655 views | FrimleyBlue | Personally. I think with us struggling to get goals from other players than delap.. Hirst should possibly be given the nod for a few prem games to start to bring others into the game and I mentioned yesterday delap can then come on against tired defenders and cause mayhem. Hirst is so intelligent with his runs but his pressing is effortless and he also appears faster this season when he has played. We've tried a fair few things this season... I don't see the harm in giving Hirst the run I feel he deserves when we've not had the best from delap apart from the Chelsea game imo where he was a different animal but apart from that game I can't say he's been an important starter for us.

Hirst on 17:53 - Feb 8 by Bramidan | Why couldn’t we play him up front with Delap just outside of him? |
Because we have 2 strikers in our squad essentially. It means you have nobody to bring on (which we know McKenna wants every single game). Our striker has to run hard for 60-70 mins and then fresh legs. We would double the chance of injury and guarantee fatigue more or less. It's not possible with the squad. I think Delap is now in his best position. We need the two of them to really work well as a an interchangeable unit.

Because in two transfer windows we’ve done nothing to improve this situation…

Hirst on 04:05 - Feb 9 with 2346 views | melbs_itfc | Hirst definitely had an excellent game and is certainly more of a team player than Delap. However I think we need to be mindful that we were playing a championship team, and as we know all too well, the gap in levels and quality between the two top leagues are seismic so tbh I wouldn’t personally read too much into it.

I think he's got a bit quicker this season too, and same applies to Woolfie and Leif. I wonder if they've focussed on running style coaching with some players?

Hirst on 09:03 - Feb 9 with 2031 views | USA | It was a joy to see him play with such a huge smile on his face. Wonderful player
Hirst on 09:09 - Feb 9 with 1999 views | sjg | He is a hero, we look a lot more structured with him in the side. With a bit nore depth I would love to see Hirst up top and Delap wide right used like prime Jon Walters

I get your thinking but who would we bring on when they fatigue later in the later stages of the match?
Hirst on 10:10 - Feb 9 with 1837 views | ArnieM | Hirst makes a massive difference to that front line. He brings others into play so easily which makes us more of a threat as more players are then able to be a threat on goal.

But he is not the new Harry Kane!
Hirst on 17:32 - Mar 15 with 720 views | LeightonBuzzardBlue | We're currently screaming for someone to glue it together at that end of the pitch and Hirst can be the answer. Hirst, Woolfie and Chaplin are the 3 that understand McKenna's system the most and it's so obvious when you watch any of them play.
