One of my wife's friends is a hairdresser, and has a collection tin for the RNLI in her salon. Apparently, she's had a couple of clients refuse to make a donation 'because they save immigrants crossing the channel'. Has society really come to this?!
Nearly 5 years of having to defend itself from these scumbags. The balls it takes to head out and save people should be worthy of everyone's respect. By definition they often go out when it's too dangerous to, like any other rescue service.
Don't forget King Charles and his eldest son have a nice multi-million sideline charging them money to launch, despite their patron being.....oh, King Charles!
Apart from going out in all weathers to rescue and endangering their own lives, as Mullers points out, the RNLI also rescue fishing vessels, merchant shipping adrift, pleasure craft at risk as well as kids that have gone out to see on lilos and holiday makers that have misjudged tides.
Under international law, ships are obliged to help people in distress at sea.

Unfortunately the sorts of people that are criticising them for saving lives of migrants are also the sorts of people who don’t care about international law. I’d hate to think what would happen if Reform did end up in 10 Downing Street.
If they simply insisted on the people in the sea singing the national anthem - especially the really jingoistic verse - before fishing then out, I'm sure even the far right would contribute

Just have a look at the US right now and you get a pretty good idea.

I like that idea. Make them down a yard of ale without spilling a drop while we’re at it.

Oh I see, so in typical fashion on here, I didn’t just agree with the masses which makes me a full on nazi that wants to see people drown to death. You lot… honestly
Funny part of this being a good mate works for the RNLI and we’ve helped out at a number on fund raising events over a number of years. But of course, up votes are life.

It has and it disgusts me. What do people expect the RNLI to do?
I actually have ancestors who were lifeboatmen all the way back to the 19c and the earliest days of Beachmen. Two of them are remembered on the Caister memorial for those lost in the 1901 Beauchamp disaster.
I will continue to support the RNLI come what may.
A brief aside....Steve Ignorant of Crass notoriety is/was (?) a volunteer crew member at Hemsby.

I'm sorry you feel that way. It was just a joke. I shouldn't have included your handle, I'll edit

Coming up the coast of Africa as we near the Canary Islands, approximately 100 nautical miles south, we receive a radio call telling us to proceed to a position 10nm from us.
Two migrant boats have been spotted by SAR aircraft.
We arrive on scene approximately 40 minutes later to find two boats heading on a northerly course at just of 4 knots. Sea state isn’t brilliant for such small boats.
We reported to the nearest Marine Rescue Coordination Centre that we have two small boats in sight. A few minutes later they tell us that they have dispatched a SAR vessel, and we are to escort the migrants to the safety of said vessel.
For over 6 hours we escort what ended up being 4 migrant boats, with at least 30 odd people on each.
At 2135GMT we are released from SAR duties. Having escorted a minimum of 120 people to safety.
Delayed home? Likely. Worth it? Definitely. I have the rest of my life to see my twins, those migrants were taking huge risks in the Atlantic Ocean just so they can see the sun rise over a better future.
I wonder where they will end up. I wish them luck.

What’s with the public outrage at this comment then ?
Because the reason for not donating, in this instance, is they would rather migrants were allowed to drown in the channel, and Texters is suggesting that should be respected. We all know your views.

It’s mainly Border Force that pick them up crossing the channel though.

Na honestly bud, don’t worry.
Was more rather amused that people are ripping into this off the back of an opening post saying ‘apparently’
The exact same people would rip posters apart on here if they opened a post with ‘apparently McKenna has called player X sht’ for example.
They’d state it wasn’t factual, and sht stirring.
That wasn't your point though
You said that people should be able to donate to who they want, without their reasons being called out. In this instance regardless of how vile those reasons are (allegedly or not)

I still stand by that. If someone wants to put their money into a charity they don’t believe in, why should we judge them? It’s not your business.
But on top of that, the pile on when ‘apparently’ was used is laughable.

It's not apparently though, is it? We've all seen the videos and read the comments of people voicing their 'disappointment' at the RNLI saving migrants in the channel.
