Ooh, I like the sound of that, in the highly unlikely event of us being relegated! With the life left in the old dogs Mass and Morsy, that would be hell of a midfield team. I wonder what Phillip’s contract situation is. He’s clearly well out of our future price range for wages in the Championship on his current contract, but I can’t see him getting another deal like that.

Leeds will surely be interested in him if he's available in the summer?

Cam isn't yet at the level of driving a Championship winning attacking midfield. We've seen a lot of him this season as Wycombe are our local club and my lad is in their junior ranks. Suspect he'll be utilised in a wider position if he does get a look in back at PR. Not intended as a knock to the lad, he just needs more consistent game time and I think he's more likely to get that away from Town at the moment. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He's been playing as a 10/ high 8 for Wycombe most of the year and we essentially have that player in Jack Taylor. I can't really see any world where he is back and starting for us in the 6 but I'm excited to see him perform at Championship level when he inevitably goes out on loan.

When we inevitably rebuild the midfield this summer, it has to be with Premier capable players. I don't see that Cameron or Downes are at that level. The pace and physicality of the Prem would find Humphreys out, unless he has improved drastically. I do like his footballing instincts. That he certainly has.

He certainly looks like he's got a lot stronger and was holding off players much bigger than himself at times last night. Whether he can reach Prem levels is a different question but he looks like he's made progress.

So? He's played there for us previously under McKenna, has played there for the 18s and 21s and isn't going to play here as a 10

Watched the Rovers game and Cam last night…. on 15:35 - Feb 19 with 2027 views | unstableblue | Pretty poor viewing to be honest as a game. Rovers are terrible away, and clearly lack any bite up front. Think had some key injuries in midfield. At least this new Wycombe try and play, they’re a more passing side than we faced them in the third tier. Humphreys took some time to get involved, he coasted around in a free 10 role where he is allowed to roam. He’s clearly getting better at leaving markers and moving into space to be available. As the game progressed it opened up and they were finding our young Suffolk Messi. In the pockets and often heading out wide. The goal was a good finish from edge of the box low. After that he was much more involved. What really stands out is some of his visionary passing with his left - through balls, little chips into box, and decent high crosses. He’s turning into almost a creative midfielder - beyond the roles of our current centre mids and number 10s. Albeit he plays high. My only concern is that he’s still not bulked out, he puts himself about and his pressing was OK. But he looks a little lightweight. He does like running at and past players, but his pace and dribbling is not up to what McKenna likes in his wider attacking mids. Promising. But the league one level seems a million miles away now. Could see a role in the Championship, maybe not Premier League just yet.

Agree with all of that until the last line. Don't see Cam as a left back at all. Yes he has some attributes that would allow him to do a job there but he's much better suited to playing higher up. I think he would be more fighting and having a realistic chance with Jack Taylor.

I have a different view. I'd be amazed if he ever plays left back again. Surely if we had wanted that to be an option for us in the future we would have sent him to a club who would have played him in that position, or at a minimum on the left of midfield? I've watched a lot of him this season: he's a a connector, a passer, has real vision. His place is in midfield. Not sure it will be with us, but we'll see.

Would be the worst move in football imo. Midfielder or a 10. Appreciate he's played left back before but that's a waste of a talent. We've also signed that left back from Chelsea for development. Humphreys in the cajuste role would do nicely. A replacement for chappers when the time comes as another r10.

I did not see last night's game but that is how he's generally been playing. Often with good bite in the tackle, too, and always giving 100%. And some of his passing is almost too good - team mates don't read what he is trying to do. Its been a great loan for him. Definitely a Championship player in the making.

I think just getting regular mens football is the key part of the loan - if McKenna stays here for next couple of seasons I can see him going back there in that role - but if we go away from it and how Davis plays here then it makes it a totally different position. I think all of those things you've said about him would apply to Leif Davis - who doesn't really play as a LB for us!

Leif doesn't have a goal in him, or twist and turn players, or operate in tight spaces. They are very different in that respect. Cam is a real baller. Leif likes space where his pace and energy and great crossing are so fantastic, and I totally agree he is more of a left sided midfielder than a left back for us. Anyway, we have different views, nothing wrong with that.

Lacks the pace required for that position would be the unfortunate counter I think. I'd like to see him continue to develop as a cm somewhere tbh.
