Agreed. I thought he might take a penalty.

Lots of excellent blocks. Really solid.

He’s genuinely brilliant and so important to everything we do well coming out from the back. O’Shea might be a better head and kick it defender but Woolfenden doesn’t need to do that because he reads the game so well.

Man of the match for me, thought Johnson had one of his best games in a Town shirt too.

I liked Burg, Wolf and Axel at the back. The defence just seems more solid when Wolf is there. And if Burg hadn't had to go off he would have headed that free kick away so who knows the outcome then.

I flicked on at about 25mins, and from that point on Johnson looked really good.

Wolf, Townsend, Johnson. And again the keeper. All done a solid job

He and Burgess are our best CB pairing. Woolfenden in particular is our best defender and it’s a travesty he hasn’t played as much as he should this season. If the team is picked purely on merit he’s a starter. Shame he didn’t cost us £20m.

Not sure on Johnson, but agree with everything else.

It's not Johnson's fault, necessarily, I just think the position he is asked to play is not best suited to him. We are really missing Ogbene and Burns.

If Burgess was on the pitch we'd keep a clean sheet every game according to some of you on here!

I know O’Shea has come on tonight, but in the final stages he looked really sloppy.
Wolf was just clean, crisp, perfect

I think like almost the whole side, Johnson improved second half. He was very useful defensively late in the game, just never seems too far away from doing something silly.

That's because O'Shea *is* quite sloppy. It's no coincidence we controlled possession and built from the back far better in the first 40-odd minutes IMO.

I don't have anywhere near as much confidence in O'Shea and Greaves.

Feels like he’s been dropped or written off for a large part of his career but he just keeps bouncing back . Didn’t put a foot wrong tonight

Woolfenden was excellent. Always looks more comfortable to me when he’s nestled in to two other centre backs - he’s not a naturally mobile CB, but nestled in a 3 I think it highlights his strengths rather than expose any weaknesses.

Also thought Johnson was excellent - incredible engine/athlete. One of them performances that can go unnoticed - but thought he was excellent.

Why though? Why is it every time we concede a goal when he's not on the pitch people are absolutely 100% dead certain that Burgess would have dealt with whatever danger it was that caused it?

On Wednesday people were convinced Burgess would have stopped Maguire scoring if he were on instead of Greaves when Maguire wasn't even Greaves' man!

He definitely hasn't had the minutes his performances have deserved this season. Extremely unlucky.

Yep, hardly put a foot wrong when he has played. The obsession with trying to replace everyone with PL players is understandable to an extend - but it feels like stubbornness when it comes to LW.

Maybe Burgess is the leader on set pieces?

I’ve never quite understood the occasional questioning of him. A classy ball playing defender.

Honestly think he’s our best defender. Said this for years and he’s raised his game to the PL. He should start every game; so controlled and chilled on the ball, numerous blocks, but never gets in drama. Chilled, reliable, likes dogs. F’king hero

Agree. I've come to appreciate how much calmer we are with him in the side.
