Burgess reaction 02:07 - Apr 14 with 4767 views | stiff_talking | Burgess reaction is not a player who wants to leave Ipswich Town. He was very unhappy with us conceding the goal and with Davis lack of cover. How did Burgess end up in Davis position after only 15 seconds of restart ?
Burgess reaction on 03:34 - Apr 14 with 3849 views | textbackup | Unfortunately he wasn’t aggressive enough to win that first header, which pulled him out of position.

Yep, although some of our fans seem to think he should be able to be in two places at once.

Defensively I thought Davis had a good game yesterday, but for that goal his attempt to block the cross was rather half-hearted.

The Leif slander on here borders on the extreme sometimes. He's not had a great season but to hope we sell him is nuts. And Townsend is 32. He's benefitted hugely from *not* playing much football this season. I'd be nervous if we had to play him for 46 games next year.

Yep, lots of dumping on Leif and as usual everything either has to be brilliant or "poor". Leif in the Championship next season – not an eventuality I expect – would be massive for us.

There's a different scapegoat every month. Muric Clarke Johnson Davis Morsy Greaves You name them, they've been singled out

Leif Davis was probably the best player in a team that was promoted from the championship last season so pretty mad to not want him when we’re trying to do that again.
| They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all! | Poll: | Who should start in CM with Cajuste? |

Townsend is more switched on defensively, as evidenced by that last ditch clearance for a corner Davis going forward we haven't seen of enough this season, in a team like Chelsea he'd offer a lot more Cucurella as an example makes a similar mistake to thar Johnson cross that Davis would, I assume he probably makes a mistake at some part of the Johnson goal also

Not sure I’d want to forget 2 and a half seasons of him being one of our best players, if not the best for long periods of that. Or the incredible number of assists for that matter.

Aside from defensively having more experience and probably handling defensive duals better, what does Townsend offer more over Davis?

He really didn’t. But that was in part to Clarke giving him all the cover of a string bikini. That’s why Chelsea exploited us right from the kickoff. I thought Leif would be nearer to where Delap is by the end of this season, but he’s just not done it and there’s no shame in that. Chelsea made a sub and their first play was to target that flank and they could have driven a tank through the gap, it’s very frustrating.

It's like the last 2 seasons never happened. Like most of our team, Davis has found this season tough going, but we all know he is an outstanding championship full back. I will be delighted and surprised if he's still here next season.

I think we are in danger of losing him as a punt for someone awful. Imagine if one of the three plastic Bs in the prem decide his release clause is worth activating, then they loan him out anyway. The benefit of him having a mixed season is it might give us another year of him. I do think far too many of our fans are binary about players - the “league one hero’s” vs the new lads seems a weird split that encourages really extreme ratings of games etc

Hey don't forget Philogene! Poor guy's hardly been given a chance. As for Davis/Townsend, would it be too much of a luxury to keep both next season?

Davis dropped in but he didn't cover. Hence why the Chelsea player had so much space to cross and Burgess was pissed off.

Quite interesting that the manger took him off on the hour. In days gone by LD's body would have to be in 3 or 4 bits for the gaffer to consider taking him off. Perhaps this is how our manager is improving himself. He very rarely changes players tactically and it is often like for like replacements. This surely must have been tactical.

The Chelsea player had so much space because he went past Burgess like he wasn't there. If Davis had doubled up rather than covering Burgess' position then there'd have been a huge amount of space for Madueke to cut the ball back into and Davis would then have got pelters for that.

It's very likely that Burgess is going to get beat out there, doubling up in order to affect the cross is clearly the better decision. Davis is in no man's land, not defending a danger area either. It's just bad defending I'm afraid.
