There is something in what Alan's saying here Herbie...
"People will vote for them anyway as their base don't care about competence, they only care about kicking brown people out of the country."

I think what they/we care about is being marginalised and ignored for decades by ruling parties of both shades of neo-Con. Capitalism isn't working, Reform won't be changing that either.

Yeah think you’re onto something here. However the only group pertaining to offer something different is Reform, and they’re very clearly wronguns. Labour offer nothing.

The OP is funny. He used to moan about his grandparents chippy being bombed by the sort of people he now votes for. Sure they’d be so proud of him.

Spot on.

If you're choosing to vote for nazis because someone said something mean about you then you're even dimmer and more tragic than Herbers is suggesting.

I thought all these devil-may-care anti-wokists were supposed to be tufty-tufty free speech fans?

And you'll be cheering them on while they run you – yes, you – into the ground a few years from now. It's a tragedy really.

Amazing to learn it's all the fault of lefties when we've had hard and far right Tory governments(and a centrist Labour one prior to that) from 2010 through 2024.

Fair to say the deeper into their base you go the more anti immigrant (and all out racist) they are and the ones on here seem to be in pretty deep!

Well when a right wing Tory Govt spend all their time in power saying they are against immigration, don't want it, want it in tens of thousands, want to stop the boats, want Brexit to protect borders etc etc and there are 3 million people coming here across a 4 year period then people are going to be unhappy.

When Govts can't or won't do what they say they will do then these things will happen - the last lot were governing without mandate

Nah, it's a lazy line people trot out to make themselves feel better. People on here who are fans of Reform aren't anti-capitalist, they are anti-immigration.

Someone on Reddit of all places asked an interesting question the other day which is 'are you anti immigration or anti reduced social housing and training opportunities'.

Reform are most definitely in the former category.

Like it or lump it Herbivore but the reason people are voting Reform is because of people like you.

Whenever people question the amount and speed of uncontrolled immigration they are called racist or idiotic schoolboy comments about a dislike of “Brown people”

You and your ilk have enabled the likes of Nigel Farage so suck it up baby.

I get that there is some anti-establishment sentiment amongst some voters as well and a desire for change. I'm not sure public school and Oxbridge educated former banker and career politician of 40 years Nigel Farage is necessarily anti-establishment though. The issue is that Labour should be offering an alternative and introducing policies that benefit working people but they aren't doing that.

I had an interesting discussion with someone from the local air ambulance the other day.

He had been employed in the corporate sector but approaching retirement had decided to do something more worthwhile.

He was very contemptuous of Trump particularly when it came to Ukraine, but then got on to immigration and surprisingly came up with some nonsense that high immigration to the UK was part of a conspiracy that those in power didn't want people to know.

It does make me wonder what sort of social media outlets that people like him tap into, and why someone like him would believe it.

And again. You cannot just trot out the Nzi word because people have a different political opinion to you. This is exactly what BDS was trying to say in the first place.

The more the left throw insults like that at the right, and the more the right throw it back at the left, the further and further apart we get to finding some good, common ground that benefits the majority in this country.

Labour also need to stop trying to out-Reform them with their own anti-immigrant rhetoric. I get what they are trying to do, they're trying to make Reform irrelevant by addressing the one issue Reform address. But you aren't going to out-Reform them and the people voting for Reform aren't going to switch to Labour. All it's doing is turning off people who might otherwise naturally be Labour voters. They need to start actually trying to make the country a better place rather than targeting marginalised groups. They aren't as good at doing that as the Tories or Reform so stop trying.

100% this. Labour (and the Tories) trying to become Reform Lite just validates Reform's position in the eyes of their voters. At some point you've got to grow a spine and tell people they're wrong.

That's pretty unfair.

Using this board as an example, if evidence is posted about immigration it's entirely ignored. I've asked one poster repeatedly to address points but they just go "too much immigration".

It's not enabling people to ask them to engage in debate, not engaging in debate and believing incorrect soundbites is what is enabling.
