Paul Lambert revisited ! (Not a Bob Dylan song) 21:13 - May 14 with 947 views | stiff_talking | How do we feel about Paul Lambert efforts with Ipswich now the dust has settled ? Highlights : The dug out fight with Norwich, the landing of star striker Norwood only to fall out with him over a night out in London, reuniting old players with the club, playing out from the back, relegation, Marcus Evans and Covid. It was a complex period, and perhaps now is the best time for reflection. Be honest, but fair to Paul !

Paul Lambert revisited ! (Not a Bob Dylan song) on 21:16 - May 14 with 815 views | BlueBadger | A lazy incompetent fraud who should never have been allowed within 50 miles of the club but was able to drag along some easily conned types with the spurious promise of better times based on nothing but a few half decent pressers and cheap gimmicks. The Boris Johnson of Ipswich Town managers. [Post edited 14 May 21:17]

We must always be aware that Marcus Evans is asset rich but cash poor so cannot just pump cash into the club. And considering his business in event management has taking an absolute pasting he is unlikely to out further cash in. Best bet is that he sells a percentage of his stake in the club to raise the revenue to progress the club.
We are a club that does things on the cheap, our stadium is well past its best and the training ground probably needs a significant upgrade.
I would also like to see him invest more in the woman's team as let's be honest that's the team that is on the up, is progressive and has the potential to be a team that is admired across the country. [Post edited 14 May 21:20]

Paul Lambert revisited ! (Not a Bob Dylan song) on 21:42 - May 14 with 669 views | MattinLondon | Let’s start with the positives and lets be fair. I think that his spin and PR managed to unify the club and did bring a lot of the fans together. I know that some on here enjoy being derogatory towards those who ‘clapped the team into relegation’ but without that spin, the stadium would’ve got extremely toxic. He, probably kept the initial attendances in L1 respectable. In terms of managerial ability, and even accounting for Marcus Evans, he was pretty appalling. And when the PR deserted him there was nothing left apart from tactical incompetence and poor players.

He's lucky that we once employed Roy Keane, otherwise he'd be shoo-in for worst Town manager ever.

That sums up Evans. Lambert hasn’t managed since, neither has Keane orJewell. Not one single manager under Evans has gone on to better things (possible exception of McCarthy with Ireland, but he was poor domestically after leaving us). He was an awful judge of what was needed for a manager of our club. Lambert was no exception. We were utterly clueless on the ball under him.

It wasn’t just spin imo. There was definitely more energy and effort on the pitch under him that season. The bar was very low though, so he still doesn’t get many brownie points for it from me.

The PR worked for Lambert, it landed him a wholly undeserved 5 year contract. Didn't work for anything else, unless you were pretty easy to con. [Post edited 14 May 22:31]

1 in 3 is not very good for a team that expected to win promotion though, especially for a forward whos only real capability was scoring goals. I think we all saw his goalscoring record over the previous few seasons and thought he was a born goalscorer who would thrive with great service. But it was evident quite early on that he was a really erratic finisher and got quite a few lucky breaks in his first 6 months.

But I read a couple of them about 6 months ago and, knowing what we do now about how the club had been run, the state it was in and what has needed to be changed since, he was very clearly trying to spell out to fans exactly why the club had been repeatedly failing over the last 15 years.

Certainly not as prolific as he was at Tranmere (1 goal in 2 games) but 1 in 3 for us in what was an awful team under an awful manager under an awful owner is still decent. As for the lucky breaks, don’t all players rely on those?!

Bear in mind, bar his first half a season he always seemed in a constant state of coming back from injury, and being forced back too early at times. A lot of those appearances weren't starts. While some don't like to hear it because they simply didn't like him, he was our best player for a long time and we only really looked like getting results when he was playing.

Don’t think the PR had anything to do with the five year contract. From what I remember Lambert had started to imply in the media that the problems at the club were a result of how Evans was running it - obviously that was exactly what the problem was but nobody still connected with the club at the time had criticised Evans before. Suddenly, out of the blue, the five year contract appeared and the criticism of Evans stopped. Complete guess on my part but I’ve always thought Evans bought Lambert off with the new contract. Seems an expensive way to silence criticism from an employee but there was no other logical reason to hand him a contract like that at the time it was given!

Probably more of it was stuff that could be easily speculated on, but he was pretty clear that nobody was running the club, making decisions, nobody knew what was going on etc.
