England squad 10:47 - May 23 with 1605 views | pablo_canooga | Tuchel is continuing the trend of bizarre squad selections. Toney? No Bowen or Murphy. [Post edited 23 May 10:48]

England squad on 10:55 - May 23 with 1531 views | rickw | Maybe he just wants to look at different people at this stage, but some odd choices - Chalobah in after playing 7 games in a row for Chelsea before missing their last match. No Guehi, Maguire or Shaw (only 1 left back called up). A lot of players playing in the Club World cup, maybe he thinks they can't have a holiday so might as well play through [Post edited 23 May 10:56]

England squad on 11:14 - May 23 with 1380 views | Exiled2Surrey | Well at least he didn’t pick Liam Delap - got to think that would increase what we pay to City if he got a call up. It looks like the U21s are all being ring fenced - how else to explain Wharton?

England squad on 11:16 - May 23 with 1358 views | Pique | Interesting that Toney is still in the picture - at the expense of Solanke, who's just won the Europa League. From a Delap perspective, that might well make him think he needs Champions League football if he's going to force his way in to the England setup. It's just become slightly more competitive than he might have assumed. Still, he has time on his side. Quite surprised to see Chalobah in there.

Guehi is injured, hurt his eye in the FA Cup final. He'll be straight back in when he's recovered. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Wharton does seem an odd omission. I'm all for only introducing players to the seniors when the time is right, but surely he's outgrown the U21s. He's only a year younger than Morgan Rogers.

I'm not sure Toney should be in but I've seen Solanke a few times this season and he's looked well off it.

I have met Adam Wharton's mother so he must be in. The real oddity is why England are playing a friendly against Senegal in June! Still, it it interferes with the absurd Club World Cup, I can put up with it.

Would be interesting to find out what Tuchel thinks cost England in the last three international tournaments. Lack of a possession-controlling midfielder seems the obvious answer but hard to argue any of the centre midfielders selected address it.

The U21's tournament is why there's no Wharton, otherwise you'd think he'd be in. I believe it would be Wharton's first international tournament exposure too? I'm not sure Delap's case to be called up is as strong this time round as it was with the previous round of fixtures. Bowen unlucky maybe, Livramento as well (can only assume he's part of the 21s though), but apart from that, it's a fair squad. I assume Guehi is ruled out for a while from the FA cup injury, hence Chalobah.

Not sure there's much mystery about Chalobah's inclusion - him, Colwill, Burn and Konsa are the only CBs regularly starting for Top 6 clubs.

England squad on 12:19 - May 23 with 966 views | Vaughan8 | He says he wants to try other players which is fine. But then he says there isn't a lot of times they meet up etc....so surely you'd want to have the same players meet up to have some consistency. Toney in the squad screams out that he doesn't really like/trust the other options available. I'm not sure games against Andorra and a friendly vs Senegal is going to show us much either.

Agree - he is obviously the future and the squad should be built around him. I have no idea why people are so against him.

We're lacking top quality in this area of the pitch at international level though. Chalobah did well at Palace and hasn't done badly with Chelsea either. Konsa and Guehi would be my pick if both are fully fit.

Definitely. I remember when England has an abundence of centre backs. Rio, Campbell, carragher, Terry, King, Woodgate, Southgate all in the same era. Though I suppose its the same with Left backs!
