So say we didn’t get relegated… 19:57 - May 29 with 1860 views | SitfcB | You reckon there was no ‘reserve’ price on Delap and we could’ve then had a bidding war/named our price. Surely he’s real worth right now is more like £50/60million?

So say we didn’t get relegated… on 20:00 - May 29 with 1813 views | textbackup | Not a chance he’s worth £50/60m right now. I get the - english - young - potential tax, that gets applied to these players. But not that much

So say we didn’t get relegated… on 20:02 - May 29 with 1786 views | Guthrum | There was probably just a slightly higher release clause. Quite possibly £40m, same as ManC's buyback, maybe a little more. [Post edited 29 May 20:04]

Worth what someone will pay. I fully believe someone would have paid £50 million no problem. We know basically the entire Prem wanted so I think 3-4 would have been in minimum and it would easily have reached £50 mil+

Yeah that’s true. If I was a fan of a team paying £50m for him though, I’d have been a bit concerned

Yes I think he tailed off a bit and McKenna playing Hirst a bit more. I agree it's a lot for him at this stage but just think teams would pay it. Certainly done as much as Hoijlund had done and he went for more. That looks terrible business now though surely he'll get a bit better.... [Post edited 29 May 22:01]

So say we didn’t get relegated… on 20:51 - May 29 with 1558 views | Dennyx4 | Doubt there would be a release clause, other than if we were relegated, as the clause probably links to a wage reduction clause if relegated. It is hard to persuade a player from a big club to take a drop in wages for relegation, without a relegation clause. The only clause we would have had to worry about was the Man City buy back.

Far fewer would probably have been in for him at an inflated price. The number of clubs showing interest it probably largely down to the figure being £30M, rather than £40/50M | | | | Login to get fewer ads
So say we didn’t get relegated… on 21:01 - May 29 with 1476 views | Swansea_Blue | Yeah, he’s obviously worth around £50/60m. You just have to look at the price other young international players go for. There’s another argument for the release clause. People are talking about it from his side’s perspective, but maybe we backed ourselves to stay up. It’s an irrelevance then.

So say we didn’t get relegated… on 21:53 - May 29 with 1273 views | Nthsuffolkblue | We would be reluctant sellers at £30M and the likes of Chelsea would see another £10M as worth the risk. I can't see anyone paying more than £40M for him right now. Cunha is proven at this level much more than Delap and is apparently going for £60M. I think the big difference is that we could probably have put some clauses into a deal of £30-40M and looked to profit from if he is successful.

How does our £21m for Philogene look? Bit painful to me

Chelsea are about to spend £30m on him. Chelsea would have, absolutely, spent £50m on him.

Cunha is going for £62m because that's what his release clause is. A bidding war would no doubt push that figure higher Had we stayed up then I'm sure Delap would have played more and been a big part of that. If he'd continued his form from the first half of the season then he's a £60m+ player. As it is, I think the £40m - £50m is probably about right

We don’t know that for sure do we. Pointless arguing over it tho. I’m sure if it was £50m more in-depth analysis would have been carried out from their side, which may have created doubts or conversations that didn’t at £30m
