Harness released on 10:36 - Jun 2 with 3384 views | Zx1988 | It may well have been that the wage he'd have been on under the option could have impeded any attempts to get a fee for him.

Harness released on 10:39 - Jun 2 with 3320 views | WeWereZombies | It's a shame to see him go but releasing him early and for no fee gives him the best chance of finding a club that will be the best place to continue his career.

Harness released on 10:39 - Jun 2 with 3319 views | RIPbobby | I was always surprised by the way we used him on the championship run in as he didn't get much game time. Then we go to the prem and he gets a decent amount of game time, then packed off on loan. Very confused with what has happened with Marcus in the last 15 months? Sounds like the manager was too.
Harness released on 10:45 - Jun 2 with 3196 views | TractorFrog | A promotion hero not of the same bracket as Massimo Luongo, but still worthy of a special place in the club's history alongside the likes of Freddie Ladapo, George Edmundson, Kayden Jackson and Janoi Donacien.
| They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. Given the lack of game time, you would imagine McKenna felt he had better options - which he did. Hutchinson, Chaplin, Burns and Broadhead pretty much made themselves undroppable, and Sarmiento was making more of an impact off the bench. Can’t say I’m that disappointed to see him go. Let’s be clear, we’re trying to sign a recent ex Barcelona player who was considered one of their best prospects in recent years - that’s where our recruitment and mindset is now. | |

Yes, quite. A good League 1 player capable of playing, but not excelling, in the Championship. Those early season goals in 22-23 played a good part in setting us on our way though and he contributed later that season by being a good squad player.

Nope I think it is the right decision. Just confused why he got loads of game time early this season when we had just bought 10+ players and then shipped out on loan. Bizzarre. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Only reason he played the first two Prem games was because Broadhead was injured and Clarke hadn't signed yet. I imagine we'd have loaned him out earlier if they'd been available.

The goal at Burton early in that season for a 1-0 win was crucial too. I remember the very long knee slide. 😂

Loads? He played 15 minutes against City & 25 or so against Liverpool whilst we were still getting our squad together and we had injuries to players like Broadhead.

Harness got 25 minutes against Liverpool & 18 minutes against Man City, in both cases coming on when the game was lost. Hardly "decent game time". Overall, he was a disappointing signing, although his effectiveness may have been reduced by a knee injury. He was never going to play much in the PL so a loan made sense for everyone. I'm sure he'll find a middling to lower Championship club, maybe a return to Portsmouth.

I guess it is much better for the player to be available without a fee - opens up to more suitors.

Have a look at that cross reference that against the last third of the championship season and in my eyes that was loads.

Indeed, and if you're looking at the bottom of the Championship/League One, you're probably looking at sides who don't have a lot of cash to spend on fees.

Harness released on 11:57 - Jun 2 with 2158 views | _clive_baker_ | I thought the same, assumed we would extend it and get a few hundred k for him. Can only assume the club crunched the numbers and deemed it not worthwhile, perhaps didn't want to run the risk of him staying put and seeing out his contract, or maybe the couple of months of wages he could earn through July & August before any move materialised (and even some contractual bonus) would offset any benefit. Wish him well, he'll be a decent pick up for a lower end Champ club. Derby feels likely, or maybe a return to Pompey?

A player who played a 74 league games across to back-to-back promotion seasons is a "disappointing signing"? Tough crowd.
Harness released on 13:35 - Jun 2 with 1544 views | SuperKieranMcKenna | Sometimes the ball would be glued to him, others it would bounce of him or he couldn’t manage a 2 yard pass. Definitely talented, but being able to do it consistently is probably why the Chaamp/League One was his level. Highlight for me was his 2 goals at home to Pompey who at that point I expected to be promotion rivals. Given that was his former club, it was followed by some ironic “Marcus Harness, he thinks you’re sh1t..”

His double at the now defunct 'Wayne Rooney's Birmingham' was decent too, to come back from 2-0 down.

Good player, someone who looked to go forward as opposed to sideways. It's the right thing to do to let him go and not hold on and try to get a minimal fee, its the Ipswich way, treat people decently.
Harness released on 13:44 - Jun 2 with 1457 views | Churchman | Agreed. I thought he did ok from the bits I saw of Derby. Always seemed a good character and scored some important goals for us. If releasing him now helps him settle at Derby or another club, fair enough. I wish him well.
