Yes. You are right and the author of the article is wrong
Delap on 17:30 - Jun 2 with 2645 views | The_Flashing_Smile | It's just nonsense that that's a hurdle. The release clause is £30m, as long as Chelsea meet that there's nothing we can do. I very much doubt the release clause is "£30m... plus Ipswich get a striker from the buyers to replace me." Unless that's what Ashton meant by very, very, very well protected! That would be the most astonishing release clause in history!

I guess it’s just about possible that Chelsea want us to waive a minor part of the release clause (eg the date of the transfer) and we’ve said we’ll do it if we get Guiu on loan in return. But “they’re just making stuff up” is a more likely option.

Delap on 17:42 - Jun 2 with 2353 views | baxterbasics | ITFC have no power to delay the deal or make demands over Guiu. It may be Chelsea have happily agreed that the move can form part of the £30M they are paying, in which case yes some time might be needed to convince the player and agree terms of his loan. But they could at any point just say "sod this it's not working for us, just take 30M in cash please"

You can’t bathe in glory of posting rehashed shîte that puts two and two together and makes a suggestion regarding a deal. Delap done though, Fabrizio just said.

That is actually possible, albeit far fetched. The early transfer window wasn't confirmed until October 2024 when we had already signed Delap and the contract agreed. Technically (and legally) its possible we don't need to adhere to the clause until 30th June. Clearly there's no real value in us not, but if allowing him to leave earlier to play in the club world cup is our smidgen of negotiating power then its possible we could use it to tie the deals together. As you say, highly unlikely though, especially as it seems we were willing to let him tie up a deal with Man United as well and I don't see us linked with anyone coming the other way. I imagine its just a case of selling him sooner as it benefits all 3 parties and any deal for Guiu is independent of that.
Delap on 18:49 - Jun 2 with 1575 views | Axeldalai_lama | I suppose the only way this could potentially have any truth is if we use it as payment leverage so to speak. So rather than demanding the £30 million in one hitwe say give us player X on loan and we'll let you pay it across a couple of seasons or whatever. But Chelsea wouldn't be obliged to and the move wouldn't be held up, it would be Chelsea wanting that advantage that would hold the deal up.

There is one possibility that ITFC can have quid pro quo with Chelsea to get the deal done early... As established in the Leicester case, ITFC remain a Premier League Club and aren't officially relegated until they hand back their Premier League share. So the release clause isn't actionable until that moment, and any move to push through the deal early, in order for Delap to be available for the Club World Championship would rely on ITFC's goodwill. Goodwill which could be easily influenced by coming to arrangements regarding mutually beneficial loans. The share is returned at the Premier League AGM. This took place on 6th June last year. I can't find this year's date. The Club World Championship transfer window closes on 10th June. So, if the Premier League AGM is after 10th June, then ITFC would be holding some cards.

Delap on 23:00 - Jun 2 with 736 views | mutters | It's an interesting thought. There is nothing that we can do to hang onto Delap as we will be relegated and the fee in his contract has been met. It sounds like it is about the timing of the deal. If we are officially relegated till the end of June, then that's when the clause would kick in. Similar to TAA at Liverpool, Madrid paid a lump sum to get him early. So the might be some wriggle room to get something additional back so we let him go early so he can play in the Club Championship.
