20 million up front because they got him cheap we should have demanded all of it, unless we are trying to deal with them over other players.

Wish him all the best.

A pleasure to watch play.

I’m not sure how these things work, but triggering a £30m release clause by giving us £20m sounds a bit:

Above my pay grade though, so whatever. It’s good to get business done early at least.

Blimey, did not see that one coming. Hopefully we've got a replacement lined up.

Good luck Liam - you lit up an otherwise pretty drab season. He’ll be in the full England squad by the time the year’s out…

Be interested to see if a friendly with Lazio is included as well

We may have allowed them to do that in return for the sell-on clause, if it wasn't already in the release clause terms.

Otherwise it might be with a view to maintaining cordial relations...

Very common for it to be in instalments

Glad it's sorted let's just hope he gets to play in the U21s, although I doubt it!

True, although someone mentioned previously that it's typical for fees based on release clauses to be payable in full upon the transfer.

Usually, the fee would be in instalments with a lower sum up front.

According to Sky we are guaranteed the other £10M in installments. We have a sell-on clause. I would imagine that was the pay-off for the delay in payment but that is a guess.

I understand that but as they got him on the cheap and a few clubs wanted him u would have thought the whole payment in this case would be payed.

I suppose it will depend on the precise terms of the clause. There would have been no need for Chelsea to sweeten the deal with Town, as it was all down to LD who he signed for.

Why do we have so many moronic fans? Thought Liam:s goodbye message was a good one. Underneath where the club have posted it on Twitter there's loads of so called Town fans giving him abuse. God help them if they'd been here when Paul Taylor was nipping off to the dentist or Leon Best was telling MM where to stick his football.

Good luck, Liam. A privilege to watch him for a season.

Wish him the very best, a short stop, but was a joy to watch at times.

Is so raw, has so much to develop and look forward to watching his career unfold!

As long as the extra £10m is guaranteed and not performance based.

I would think it is pretty normal but it could even suit us for example if £20 million say sorted us out for PSR then getting the £10 million next year or spread over a couple could actually give us more wiggle room in the market.

Could also relate to negotiations over Guiu loan etc.

If it was performance based, they wouldn’t have activated the release clause.

Really? That’s disappointing. Feckin clueless idiots. I thought it was a really genuine and well-worded statement. Let’s hope a lot of these cretins disappear now we’re back in the champ…

Apologies, I just find it hard to be attached to a player who did well for half a season and lost interest after Christmas following all the speculation.

He is the sort of player we could do without. And let’s be honest, it is the typical young English player hype we hear all the time, which most never live up to.
