Is it goodbye to Omari and O'Shea? Potentially Leif?

Not necessarily, although it's possible. The Brentford model is a bit different and I'd imagine he'd have less direct input into any signings.

Along with the players that are on their way out there, I wonder if that would put him off? He is very much 'in charge' here isnt he? Has a lot of say around things at the club.

Omari will be off regardless of who the manager is.

IF McKenna goes, and IMHO its a bloody big IF, Ashton will play hardball with him around any players he wanted to take from here I'm sure.

We're talking about a manager, who kept his job after a pretty disastrous campaign in the Premier League, by anyone's standards, irrespective of how big the step up was, literally because of who he is.

If he were to go now, I would imagine Ashton, Schwartz and co would be livid.

He kept his job because he got us back to back promotions and is the best young manager in the country. Any manager we appoint next is going to be a downgrade on McKenna.

And they would swell our coffers for good replacements.

How much would we get for the 3 of them? £50m?

You might be right. But he was very, very well backed by the owners and the next one will be too. He's good, but he's not the only good manager. We'll survive and might even thrive without him.

One potential upside is we might get a new manager who knows the international markets a bit better. That is where the real value is.

I don't disagree. But what about the context of what I posted?

He doesn't owe us anything does he? If he chose to go to a club that is unfortunately a step up from us at the moment then it should be with the well wishes of everyone.

Whether McKenna leaves or not, any potential buyers will have to pay the figure Ashton is happy with before anybody is sold.

Let's see if it actually is with everyone's 'well wishes'.

Given the state of this board on the back of the easiest piece of journalism since the Reichstag Fire, the place will melt down if he does go. There's already been one poster wishing him to relegate Brentford and how much they'll laugh as we switch leagues.

These are my sentiments.

I think probably for him personally it would be best to go now. If he doesn't get us back up next year, which is by no means certain, it's a long way back to a top half premier league job.

But my goodness, he leaves us in an infinitely better place than he found us.

Will have my blessing and best wishes either way.

Very big risk going to Brentford. Arguably a harder job getting them top 10 next season than us top 2. Even if we only made the playoffs he would still have a job here to build again the following season. Wouldn’t be surprised if he went but doubt it will be to Brentford with all due respect to them. A great club but we will be surpassing them in the next 5 years no doubts.

Note for any TWTD posters with an interest in stocks and shares. Invest HEAVILY in companies providing incontinence products this summer as I fear there's going to a LOT of wet beds and undies round here.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

At Brentford he won't have a say on the players the club buys, that is down to the scouting / data analysing team. They identify the players and KM will be expected to coach them. That is why Franks is called a coach rather than a manager at Brentford, his role is purely to coach the players he is given.
Now obviously that team could identify (for example) Leif as a player the club wants, and buys him, then yes Leif would move to Brentford

Does anyone *actually* believe he’s going to leave at this time? I’m taking most of the catastrophic talk as light entertainment.

I don't see a risk in going to Brentford at all. The expectation there isn't to finish top 10, it is to make sure they stay in the PL. It's probably the least demanding club/fanbase amongst the established 17. Finishing 14th a couple of seasons in a row and doing it in his style is probably enough to have him in the discussion for a top 6 job.

I'd argue there is more jeopardy here when he could easily score 90 points, end up the wrong side of the automatic promotion line and get beaten in the play offs.

Saying the above, I still think he will stay.

This is the point isn't it and the one I was trying to make.

If he doesn't get us back up next year, it's tough to see a way back to getting one of those top half prem jobs in the near (ish) term.

I made the point in yet another KM thread a moment ago that hand on heart I suspect he probably regrets not going to Brighton last year (not sure how seriously he was ever in contention for the others he was linked to). I think he probably goes if Brentford come calling tbh.

From what I'm hearing, probably not. Not ruling it out but don't get a sense of anything being in train or too much concern at Portman Road, as it stands at least. I think Justin Cochrane is probably going to get the Brentford job. That situation could change, of course.

Also would expect Kieran's representatives to have made more noise in the media if it was something he is very keen to progress, judging from last summer, although that may be complicated by Cochrane being one of his best friends. That could mean he's aware of the plans at Brentford as well, of course.
