Swansea, didn't see that one coming! on 20:31 - Jun 14 with 1881 views | redrickstuhaart | That is nuts. Presumably he wants to play and KM has made it clear that Greaves is his no.1. I think KM is wrong on that, but there it is.
Swansea, didn't see that one coming! on 20:32 - Jun 14 with 1881 views | RobTheMonk | We definitely got our monies worth out of him and then some. Makes this all the more disappointing that he's off on a free transfer.

Swansea, didn't see that one coming! on 19:20 - Jun 14 by ITFCSG | This looks like Hladky 2.0 all over again. MA perhaps isn't the master of deals he thinks he is. (Unless we already have a replacement lined up for Burgess who is an upgrade, which I really doubt at this point of time) |
If we have, you can bet your bottom $ we'll pay through the nose for him.

Swansea, didn't see that one coming! on 19:10 - Jun 14 by Sarge | Well this has worked out strangely. Spent £15m on an inferior replacement and driven a better player into the arms of another team for free. That he chose Swansea of all places makes it even more confusing. |
What, Greaves who is 5 years younger than Burgess and already one of the best in the Championship, who started for us really well before injury and (circumstances allowing) will only get better with us? I'm sad to see Burgess leave and had hoped to get another couple of years out of him, but that actually seems sensible business to me.

Swansea, didn't see that one coming! on 19:31 - Jun 14 by textbackup | My favourite current ITFC player. Gutted he’s leaving us. O’Shea CB and Axel, if they all go, we have more work to do than I thought. Best of luck big Cam… I will always smile when I think about that left footed pass down the line to Leif, a thing of beauty |
Brilliant player for us, i never thought he would make it at Championship level but he exceed that. Also a special shoutout that my boy was a mascot against Middlesbrough last year at home. He was supposed to go out with Lief Davis, somehow ended up right at the back with nobody Omari was already double banked, he shouted to Burgess to take my boy and he looked after him.
Swansea, didn't see that one coming! on 22:07 - Jun 14 with 1602 views | Vaughan8 | It's not rocket science. He wants to play regularly in a world cup year and has been given 3 years contract, presumably at a decent rate. Us, Valencia, whoever else couldn't guarantee that. Do I agree? No because I think he's possibly our best defender, but players are going to be moved on. If our aim is to go back up again, he's proved (along with a lot of other players) he's not quite up to it and he'll be a year older. Maybe him leaving gives an opportunity for someone else to impress in preseason (Baggott?) [Post edited 14 Jun 22:08]

Just have to hope Greaves re captures that early form then, don't we, because since his return from injury hes certainly been less than convincing, and im not sure why.

Swansea, didn't see that one coming! on 11:13 - Jun 15 with 1304 views | DJR | I may be misremembering but I am sure I saw an independent article a few weeks ago saying things were looking up for Swansea with Sheehan in charge. This article certainly shows they had a strong finish to the season. https://www.swanseacity.com/news/alan-sheehan-we-have-some-solid-foundations-bui The Swans took 24 points from the final 13 games of the season under Sheehan, who was last week appointed head coach on a three-year contract. Seventeen of those came in the last eighth Championship fixtures, making Swansea one of the division’s form sides during the final run-in. [Post edited 15 Jun 11:15]

mat ryan the oz keeper was dropped due to low game time and then promptly reinstated when he made a move to a club who could give him more matches. it's a wise move for cam if he wants to guarantee his world cup spot

Wow, talk about having a chip on their shoulder, theyve scored a great free transfer in Cam but let’s face it they finished 39 points off automatic promotion last season and haven’t worried the top 10 since 2021. Almost every club has a billionaire lurking somewhere, we had Marcus Evans - absolutely minted he was…and absolutely clueless, also wouldn’t even spend transfer fees to buy replacements These big signings they are pinning their hopes on are £1-2m unlikely to shake the championship to its core. Well done for landing Cam he is decent but if we really wanted him we would have made him a better offer. Not sure what all the forum stuff and Norwich stuff is about, clutching at straws comes to mind, all very random.

Swansea, didn't see that one coming! on 07:56 - Jun 16 with 793 views | CityBlue | I really wouldn't be surprised if there is a slight medical condition that made the club reluctant to sign a three year deal. Lets tack Burg and see what happens. He was in for a MRI scan towards the end of the season (was ahead of me in the queue at Nuffield)

In fact these comments really are most welcome, they’ve stirred the pot and there’s nothing like a Jack Army reaction, that’s two more games next season we will all be looking forward to."

That article, and the associated attempt to stoke up some kind of "rivalry", is possibly the most tinpot thing I've seen. It might even top Norwich fans creating a Wiki entry for their win over Bayern Munich, a feat of tinpottery that I thought would never be bested.

‘Shook up Europe by beating Valencia away’….this is definitely the way to argue accusations of being tinpot.

In fairness they had a cracking season that year. It was up there with our 2000/01 season and a highlight for a lot of their fans. They’ll turn ugly if you take this piss out of that lol!

Yeah, they were awful under Luke Williams, who was just a poor man’s Russell Martin (no surprise, they worked together). The new guy, whilst part of the backroom team over recent years has changed things completely from possession for the sake of it to much more direct play and a higher tempo. He’s stopped them pissing around at the back and they’ve unsurprisingly become a lot tighter. They’re set up to improve with a couple of good signings so far, but still lack numbers and quality to challenge imo. Up front seems to be their Achilles heel with a striker who can’t score and a couple of number 10s who can’t create (although Cullen can score and is often used as the lone striker). Their wingers, whilst quick (Ronald) and tricky (Eom) lack a consistent end product. There’s little quality in reserve. It’s not a good mix, but they are mostly young and/or adjusting to football in the EFL, so they could certainly improve and be a dark horse for the POs if they can add 2-3 more quality players.

Swansea, didn't see that one coming! on 15:30 - Jun 14 by blueoutlook | Strange move. I’d sooner him at the back for us than Greaves. We obviously didn’t offer him the contract he wanted. Shame. |
Greaves is aged 24 & presumably the type of player McKenna felet he could mould into a PL player. The jury is still out on that one, but didn't everyone love him after his first couple of games? Burgess is 29 & has spent his career knocking around the lower leagues. He's a decent Championship level player, but if Town are to get back to the PL & survive, we need to take a chance of players like Greaves, rather than fill our team with the likes of Burgess. He would have been a good squad player for next season,l but I guess the contract we offered him reflected that.

It would have been great to have that strength in depth, but we have to respect Burgers’ wish to move on for (presumably) more regular football, don’t we? If that and a 3 yer contract and needing to be in the window for the World Cup is all part of it, it’s understandable. I’d rather have him than not have him, but I think you’re right that Greaves has the higher ceiling and future resale value. Greaves was good at the start of the season. He should be one of the standout CBs in the Championship, if we can keep hold of him.
