Good call. Another of those exotic diamonds was Larsen Toure. He arrived at the same time as Knudsen and Hokey-Cokey. Great name thought I. Foreign so must be good. Nope. He looked as bewildered as I felt watching him as he stumbled about the pitch. Edit: Marco Holster anyone? Allegedly a midfielder. Personally I though the term ‘footballer’ was a massive stretch. I always muddle him up with Thomas Gaardsøe for some reason. These Scandies all look the same innit! Who was the guy with large hair who used to play CB or LB and had no positional sense and would charge up the pitch for no reason? He was another punt we had high hoped for and turned out crap. So rubbish we almost forgot they were here 11 on 13:46 - Jun 21 by Churchman | I was at that game. Pitiful really doesn’t cover just how bad it was. Maybe bringing on Paul Digby would have made a difference. Of course it wouldn’t have because he could have easily made anyone’s cr@p eleven too. It would have been cheaper and more effective to put Bluey on the bench. In fact, Mick could have brought on both mascots and anyone from the crowd with a pair of boots at HT and it’d have been an improvement.. There were 20,317 sufferers plus me at that shambles. The only moment of cheer was that Douglas didn’t come out for the second half. A technicality of course, since as from what I endured, a cardboard cutout with a shirt and biro’d dinky beard couldn’t have done any worse in the first half. |
Just remember it being the start of an extended but on paper not too difficult run in, where even moderate form would have put us comfortably in the play offs. Rotherham were struggling as usual and we set up with 8 defensive players. Was the end for me though wasn’t it another 2-3 years before MM went?

So rubbish we almost forgot they were here 11 on 16:19 - Jun 21 with 572 views | blueoutlook | Harbey and Penny both awful players. Both played a few games for us as well. How the hell they got away with it I’ve no idea. I seem to recall Penny having one leg longer than the other, or did I dream that ? May account for why he just went round and round in circles most matches. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

But a Forum legend because somebody always shoehorns him into every single pun thread. So gone, but very much not forgotten. Josh Harrop was so forgettable that a while back I remembered we had had a player who was rubbish but couldn't remember his name, and had to use the TWTD hive mind to retrieve it, after much back and forth. And, bless him, the lovely kitman should probably be the goalie, but he would probably prefer it if we did forget his performance against Grimsby!

Wondered how Mark Fish hadn’t been mentioned so far! I could run faster than him and I was middle-aged at the time. I remember him turning red-faced with the effort of pumping his legs as he ran at his top speed of about 100 yards a minute … Le Pen was a loan I think - iirc played well in his one and only game for us, then broke his leg? or incurred other season-ending leg injury after a few minutes. Sad that.

Glenn Pennyfather had one leg longer than the other. He played with a built up boot. Mind you, the way he played, I suspect they modified the wrong one. He was at the club 89-93, 12 appearances 1 (one) goal. Not sure he’ll ever make the Hall of Fame. [Post edited 22 Jun 6:09]

Ulrich LePen cost £1.4m and a 3.5 year contract in Nov 2001. 3 substitute appearances according to Pride of Anglia. I remember the first. It didn’t last long. Edit: Adrian Paz cost £900k for 13 appearances and 1 goal. Deal of the century by comparison to LePen. [Post edited 22 Jun 7:27]

Amir Karic as already mentioned. But does anyone remember Earl 'The Flea' Jean? He was interviewed by the EADT when he signed and I remember him saying he could jump higher than anyone else. [Post edited 22 Jun 12:21]

I do remember him for his unusual name. According to POA he made one appearance as sub and went to Rotherham on a free a month after signing. I guess George wasn’t impressed.

So rubbish we almost forgot they were here 11 on 12:20 - Jun 21 by Churchman | The team from hell: GK - Ron Fearon FB - Graham Harbey FB - Dan Harding CH - Chris O’Donnell CH - Jordan Spence (not sure where he was meant to be playing and was so awful it didn’t matter so centre half will do.) MF - Andy Drury MF - Jonathan Douglas (proper bloke Douggie. Proper cr@p player too, Mick) MF - Giles Coke (proper bloke Cokey. Even worse than Douggie, Mick, and that’s a mother of all low bars) F - Paul Taylor F - Frank Nouble F - Kevin Lisbie Subs - Lee Martin (could play anywhere …..really badly), Colin Healy, Tom Eastman, Aaron Lee-Barrett, Ellis Harrison. |
Some belters in there but very harsh on Dan Harding no? He was a mainstay of a team that would regularly finish mid table in the championship.

I used to feel the same about David Hill but as nobody else ever mentions him, I can only assume I was judging him harshly.

Blond bloke. I don’t remember him being that bad, but his time here was mostly during the depressing Duncan years so it might be my rubbish memory. 63 appearances, 8 goals between 88 and 91.
