I was at that game. Pitiful really doesn’t cover just how bad it was.
Maybe bringing on Paul Digby would have made a difference. Of course it wouldn’t have because he could have easily made anyone’s cr@p eleven too. It would have been cheaper and more effective to put Bluey on the bench. In fact, Mick could have brought on both mascots and anyone from the crowd with a pair of boots at HT and it’d have been an improvement..
There were 20,317 sufferers plus me at that shambles. The only moment of cheer was that Douglas didn’t come out for the second half. A technicality of course, since as from what I endured, a cardboard cutout with a shirt and biro’d dinky beard couldn’t have done any worse in the first half. |
Just remember it being the start of an extended but on paper not too difficult run in, where even moderate form would have put us comfortably in the play offs. Wondered how Mark Fish hadn’t been mentioned so far! I could run faster than him and I was middle-aged at the time. I remember him turning red-faced with the effort of pumping his legs as he ran at his top speed of about 100 yards a minute …
Le Pen was a loan I think - iirc played well in his one and only game for us, then broke his leg? or incurred other season-ending leg injury after a few minutes. Sad that. |  |

Glenn Pennyfather had one leg longer than the other. He played with a built up boot.
Mind you, the way he played, I suspect they modified the wrong one.
