Does anyone else get irritated by BBC coverage of Glastonbury?

Another year of the BBC trying to "give viewers the full Glastonbury experience" by interviewing middle class people with middle class presenters in sanitised areas while sitting on bright primary colour sofas with cushions.

Maybe just me, but that 'aint Glastonbury.

"middle class people with middle class presenters." - I'd say that's about spot on with Glastonbury these days.

It is Glastonbury today.

Not what it was or should be, and people calling it “Glasto”… yuck.

Well anyone who lives near to it, calls it,, [The Town] 'Glasto' through the rest of the year so, we'll have to beg to differ.

Never watch the interviews

But isn't it great to have the availability of all those live performances on iPlayer

It is now.

Glastonbury is now a load of middle class people trying to look trendy. It's totally focused on making money.

I had to laugh at someone being interviewed on the radio yesterday moaning that the Co-op shop in Glaso is only selling food in packaging, ie sandwiches, crisps, packaged meals, where is the lose vegetables etc. He was moaning that Glastonbury should be about teaching people about sustainability.. that would be the first and last time he would visit the co-op inside Glastonbury. The interviewer then continued and we discover this individual has been going to Glaso since the early 80s, hardly missed a year. We then discovered he's staying in a caravan on site which he towed to Glaso in his Range Rover. Traffic was fine getting there but he's expecting long delays when leaving, as normal.
That's OK then, the Co-op isn't selling lose vegetables, but at least traffic didn't delay his Range Rover.

A load of middle class people pretending to be trendy.

At least next week he can boast during a round of golf to his mate Rupert, oh I was at Glaso last week.. yes I'm trendy, but the bloody mud on the Range Rover was annoying.

It's been highjacked by the very people who'd call you a "greebo" back in school for wanting to go to such an event. I'm sure there's still loads of great stuff going on, but the BBC coverage makes it look like a massive tvatfest.

To be fair, it would be a bit of a mess if they were all tripping.

Over promoted by the BBC, a middle class fest.
Not surprising that so many BBC staff get free tickets to 'help out' some say up to 1,000. Has it become the BBCs staff festival?

To be honest they ain't got a lot left. Maybe sky should do a festival channel and show all festivals.

The ever growing influence of Live Nation is what's really killing Glastonbury,my friend who has played at every one for the last 20+ years, (4 sets this year) has chosen not to play again after this year,I know many others too in similar situations.
Sadly all about the money now and it's lost most of its soul!

The coverage of the actual music, and the iPlayer functionality to catch up for a month is very good. The chat and the relentless advert for it the rest of the time rather less so.

Not sure the list of artists is that appealing to me but I'll watch a bit of it over the weekend.

I don't think the viewing figures would do so well if it was a load of people doing pingers at 2 am followed by deep and meaningful chats tbh.

Give me 90's and 00's guitar bands every day of the week please.

To be fair. Glasto is mostly a middle class affair these days. The days of spending the weekend caked in mud, tripping your nuts off and crapping in a hole in the floor have been replaced by glamping, Rod Stewart and strawberries.

That sounds a bit like my experience at the Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donnington, with added urine being thrown about in 2 litre bottles.

Now MoR was authentic. Massive hole in the ground for a latrine, Slade slaying everyone in the rain………

Very few festivals are what they were (Jeez, I sound like my parents) - most have priced out a lot of people and have become a social "badge" people like to display in their media feeds.

I actually find the whole thing a bit pretentious.

My Son-in-Law is from Glastonbury, hates it with a passion - good news is they now live in Suffolk and under my influence are bringing up their family as young Blues fans . . . .

Still sounds like Henry and Hugo from Chiswick talking about it.

I've heard stories of performers in the smaller areas being asked to play for free if they have a ticket already. And if they don't have a ticket they are offered 3 x 8 hour shifts on the bar to pay for the ticket.

Read an article on that very subject saying much the same thing yesterday.

Bigger name bands will perform for lower than their usual rate as the tv coverage boosts sales for their upcoming tours.

Bands not shown on tv usually make a loss on Glastonbury and don’t always get enough tickets to get their band and crew in.

Massive intersection in the Glastonbury / Wimbledon tennis 2nd week Venn diagram I reckon.

Not surprising when it costs the price of a holiday to go though.
