According to the following :- https://t.co/wE9uVpdGyu

He was never coming here in a million years, we aim far too high. I make that Guiu, Ferguson, Hackney, Cajuste all on our ‘list’.

This is a new whinge ... the club are aiming 'too high'. What a dreadful predicament the club is in.

For what it's worth the article does not really say much ..

We understand Crystal Palace have admired Hackney for a long time, and now feel an agreement is possible with the 23-year-old.

It's nothing but baseless speculation. How do you asses 'admiration' as a journalist?

How exactly do we know who to buy then? Should we just buy a load of obviously available players as soon as the window opens?

Genuinely, which players that have gone to other clubs and would have gone to us should we have signed?

And would you or others be just as moany about having lower calibre players once the season is properly up and running? Wouldn't say we should have aimed higher?

It's clearly a balance, and maybe we'll miss out on every single potential great target, but well also gain a few of much higher quality than just making do with the low hanging fruit.

“We aim far too high”? Don’t tend to go along with that.
If you look at the players we’ve brought to this club since Aston and McKenna arrived. Delap and Hutchinson are Two fine examples..

If you have a look through his twitter, most of his stuff is very heavy speculation that just links to news articles for clicks. This player is of interest etc etc It's rarely anything concrete.

Have to say whilst I admire the club’s optimism it does leave us at risk of having lost valuable time on (unrealistic) failed signings. This time last year we were a far more enticing prospect but that isn’t quite the case at the moment.

Issue we have now is that we’re only a short time away from the season start with numerous positions needing to be filled. I’m sure we’ll get it sorted but think this is just another symptom of the scouting network not being where it needs to be (yet) as reaffirmed by McKenna in a recent interview.

Ideal world is we’re not going after some of these more obvious prospects because we either signed them years before or we hoover up an unknown prospect cheaply and with a better resale value; see Brighton or Brentford as to the ideal scenario (in my opinion at least).

I’m reassured that Kieran mentioned it as I’m pretty confident that means something happens to change our scouting quickly. Hopefully we will be using the Prem money & experience to fast track progress in the same way as has been done with the academy to cat 1.

Some of you really don't understand our model.

How many times have we gone in for a player, done all the groundwork, and they choose another option? Then 6-12 months later, we go in again and land the player. We might luck in and sign them now, or an opportunity may come up later, and the fact that Kieran/the club are still keen can be the difference. It's not all about the here and now.

Is that a model? I’m not sure it is. Missing out on a target and getting them at a later date isn’t a target strategy it’s making the best out of an imperfect situation.

If anything it says we’re still not able to identify different prospects a year later so we carry on plugging away with the original target. Hence why I think the scouting issue is so rightly pointed out by McKenna.

As to an example of going back in for a player; Philogene is a recent example but what others are there? Too early in his case to say if it will be a success or not - fingers crossed…

I think we're probably in discussions on a number of players. Given the market we're now fishing in stuff takes time. Some sensible signings so far so I remain confident.

Aiming too high going for unreachable players whilst 2nd/3rd choices bet gobbled up elsewhere?

To suggest that is our model and is in any way a good one is proper mental.

It's definitely a balance but is that actually happening? Who do we know we've missed out on? It's a horrible game of poker and we're watching on with only half the knowledge. Shirley it's not that straightforward? McKenna saying feck it I'm putting all my money on a to hell with b c d e and f? It's ten different targets with different chains and proposals. I'm sure there are times we'll mess it up but it's risk Vs reward.

I'm crap at poker and would have folded way early on too, but then I'm not manager/ CEO of a football club trying to get back into the toughest league in the world, they are, so I'll try and just trust them!

So we should aim for rubbish players?

You'd be the first to complain about a "meh" signing.
