Sheffield Wednesday players refusing to play 00:05 - Aug 1 with 2497 viewsBlueandTruesince82

Behind closed doors friendly cancelled....... between them and Morcambe its a very dark week for football.

No sign of either going into Administration, seems like Whittingham intends to just shut up shop. 2 professional sports clubs hes ruined.

Chansiri appears to be in denial, incredible goings on. Not sure many teams will take points of Wednesday as at this rate one must wonder if they manage to start the season!

Poor Wednesday are rapidly descending from a basket case to needing immediate life support all because of that nutjob of an owner.

Looks like their friendly against Burnley on Saturday has been cancelled too.

As I posted yesterday, players were informed that wages were delayed again. Along with the North Stand being closed due to safety certificates and from what I read needing 7 figures repairs...

After Chansiri made some payments to relieve some of the restrictions.

At this rate they may not be able to fulfil the first fixture.

What happened with Reading ? I’m sure they were in dire straits last season.
As you say with these 2 and It’s currently desperate … throw in Hull and Leicester issues could be an interesting championship … I guess Blackburn are always on the venky verge too.

Crikey even I wouldn’t inflict him on them

At least it’s a quick death with this lot. Evans would be a slow

Fair play to Pedersen for going there. He must really back himself to work miracles (or have been living under a rock for a couple of years).

Dai Yonnge finally relented to the pressure and sold up. He was at least engaging with prospective buyers.

Chasiri, as far as I can tell is telling people he wants £100m and has apparently already turned down bids at around £40m

As it stands, their players are having to car share to their first game of the season - Leciester away as the club won't provide a coach - and their first home game is in doubt as the company they use for stewards want debt settling from last season, and payment up front.

Well, if he doesn't pay what he owes (not just to players/staff but other companies) sooner rather than later, he will have to head into bankruptcy or liquidation.

I'm assuming he has setup a limited company as ownership of SW, but even if he hasn't, you can still take individuals to court if they owe your money.

Think it's a fairly shrewd move. If it all falls apart he'll get no blame. If Chansiri sells and they get a new owner with big backing then he'll be the incumbent - he'll probably have to get them promoted from League One but he'll be in a strong position.

Yeah, there are a number of holding clubs involved.

For example, Hillsborough is technically owned by Sheffield 3 Limited - which is owned entirely by Chansiri. Sheffiled Wednesday Holdings Limited (based in Hong Kong, but again owned entirely by Chansiri) sold the ground to Sheffiled 3 a few years ago to ensure they hit PSR rules.

Would be a huge shame if one man can ruin a club with such a rich history. Got to feel for the fans who, whatever we may feel about some of them, canly stand and helplessly watch.

The doors were only closed because neither club could afford the WD40 needed to get them to open properly.

It's hard to see how they can start the season. The EFL are rightfully concerned.

Can't blame the players. They will have been advised by their union one would assume. They haven't been paid and if they get injured they won't be available for a potential club that will pay them.

A sad day for football, as you say but the players need to look out for their own interests.

The EFL need to be more than 'concerned' at this stage in proceedings.

By the time they pull their finger out and take substantive action, it'll probably be far too late.

So if they can't put together a team to play come start of the season, what's the procedure?

They get booted out the Football League?

Then what - The Championship continues with a team missing and only two get relegated?

Very reminiscent of the state that Bolton were in. They played youth team players and refused to fulfil midweek fixtures as there is a ruling about youngsters not playing too much football.

They gradually put some sort of team together as the season progressed and finished above another team in the end. I can't think which team that would have been!

I presume HMRC will come knocking soon enough with final demands?
