But even I’m getting twitchy now. Not especially about HH or Jens, but anything definite at all.
Given how difficult a start we’ve been handed and the importance of this season, I don’t fancy starting the season feeling we’re half cocked, given the loss of Morsy, Jens, Phillips and Mas and only bringing in one.

I don't think it's unfair to say we've left a lot of important business to be dealt with quite late in the day - at least when we look at the starting fixtures.
If it all comes off, we'll never remember there being an issue.

It feels like a common theme to me, and I don't mean that in a negative sense. It's just due to all the money sloshing around.
Clubs, relatively speaking, don't care about being short for the first few weeks of the season. They care about having the right players signed on the right contract for the right amount of money. In the short term they will make do, meaning Humphreys will probably get game time in the first few weeks, just like Luongo got game time last season.
I imagine McKenna cares, but even then he won't want players in for the sake of it. If we have to wait until September 2nd or whatever it is to get Hackney, I think they'll be okay with that. How often is a team genuinely set for the first game squad/transfer wise? We have this conversation about being ready every year.

It's is unfair to say we've left it late. Nobody has sat twiddling thumbs. We are just very ambitious and we want top players who are better than what we have and will have capability to play in the next division. They are only now becoming available (as will like HH have ambition and possibility for Prem moves etc).
I'm nervous as hell as well but I'm relaxed in the sense we are doing the right thing. Even if we have to revert to lower plans in the end we have to shoot high.
I’d have to agree and I’m not that optimisitic about Hackney, Cajuste or a striker coming in and think Broady will leave before the season starts.
We should have enough quality to compete with what we have but I hope we get some more in before the window closes and before the injuries start accumulating.

And apart from saints we've had longer than anyone else to prepare for it,beggars belief,
that's nonsense, if we'd have approached hackney or jens when we got relegated, they'd have given the exact same answer; they need to weigh up their offers.
better to wait until the last minute for the right player than get the wrong player in and be tied to them
I know what you mean, but you can bet your bottom dollar that Ashton and KM are doing absolutely everything they can to getbthier targets in. As others have said, it's the result of aiming high.

Of this I have no doubt, but aiming high also has risks as well as benefits

Tanaka, Manor Solomon, Ramazani, Michael Cooper, Jaidon Anthony, Hannibal Mejbri, Wilson Isidor and Tyrece Campbell are just some of the notable names signed in August by the top 4 clubs last summer. Top players typically go late into the window

We could have had all our transfer dealings wrapped up already if we had settled for middling champ players.
Exactly and the same thing happening to us is happening a level down.
Travis has been linked with a move to other clubs all summer. Who is to say he isn't holding out for us or someone slightly higher up the food chain then offers he is getting. He may end up elsewhere or if our top targets don't sign we go back for a Travis or someone else (who might have got much earlier in the window). I'm just saying there are good players we can get if our top targets don't sign and id rather we have a go!! Even if slightly less time in pre-season with us.
Not aimed at you specifically but I’m curious as to whether people think transfers are often completed within a matter of hours or days at this time of year.
Fortunately we’re very good at keeping most signings under wraps until completion but most transfers would send people into meltdown if they were publicised as much as Hackneys.

Weeks and months very often, only with us becoming aware at the very last moments.

weird comment; most people are taking the sensible view, because they're sensible people.
the drama queens will continue to moan that the sky is falling in and claim we should be able to buy everyone we fancy immediately. real life doesn't work that way
Could the delay, I wonder, be due to the club wanting to wait until they can announce these 4 signings all at once? 🤔 Yeah, that's probably what it is.
