He was very good. He was rpyle solution to the marshall problem wasn't he?

Then came kelvin davis, who was absolute class. Probably the best i've seen. Plug being an ipswich boy and so young meant a lot to us but davis might have been a better keeper.

Kelvin probably my pick of the era I have been a fan for (since early 2000s)

Closely followed by Bart.

Honourable mentions to Mike Pollitt and Asmir Begovic as loanees.

Worst keeper I've seen play for Town is Arran Lee Barrett. Ironically and to his considerable credit he actually punched above his ability massively when he did actually play, but should have never been anywhere near our first team.

Most football fans wouldn't know a good goalkeeper if they smacked them in the face. Muric and Sereni being mentioned in threads like this, case in point.

Although nowhere near the worst, Serini and Muric were equally the most disappointing. Both were bought in as a major upgrades to what we had, and both failed abysmally to live up to expectations. Muric I think made his errors at the worst possible time.

Serini was a massive upgrade on the alternative! Because that was not Wright.

Because I have eyes, watched his warm up work, saw the defence reaction to his presence in games, observed the number of times his positioning was poor or he flapped at a cross and got away with it. Also, see his career before and after his spell with us.

Dean Gerken was pretty awful too. Never left his line for anything!

Once saw him eating two Sunday roasts in the Easton White Horse.

Cheery place this at the moment.

How about best keepers? I always thought Paul Gerrard was the absolute nuts, but he probably only played about 4 games.

When Joe Royle came to Town, his first move was to get Gerrard in on loan as he knew how hopeless Marshall was. Unfortunately, he injured his knee & went back to Everton after 5 games so "flapper" Marshall came back in & we just missed out on the play offs, despite having the squad denuded & not being allowed to buy any players.

Jim Thorburn. Signed by Jackie Milburn from Raith Rovers in the relegation season 1963/64. Raith had just been relegated from Scottish Divisvion 1, Thorburn conceding 114 goals in fewer than 34 games. For us, he played 10 games in Division 1 and 14 in Division 2, conceding 59 goals, including 6 at Liverpool, 9 at Stoke and another 6 at Spurs in the space of a month and kept just 4 clean sheets. No other Town keeper comes even close to that.

Although to save tarnishing his memory too much it should be noted that he played alongside such luminaries as George Dougan, Jack Bolton, Joe Davin and a host of players whose star was on the wane due to age and now without the magic touch of Alf.

Serini was decent....great shot stopper, but liked crosses less than Christ

As a few else have said, it’s not about Muric being technically bad, in terms of ability, he’s fantastic. The problem with him is entirely between the ears. That said, that first half against Man City on his debut did seem a little bit like a sign of things to come, more than it just being luck. The sense that the cb’s didn’t really trust him either really bled into a lot of the early season games and ultimately contributed to some of the clangers.

With Marshall, it’s very much the same story. He was off to a bad start with some due to where he came from, and I remember a moment in his home debut against Leicester where he dropped a cross and it felt like the whole ground in unison shouted ‘what the f’ are you doing Marshall.’

Guess first impressions count.

For me, Scott Loach goes down as the biggest disappointment. Watford no. 1 for a time, home town boy and yet he just didn’t meet expectations.

The one that I felt performed better than expected was Arran Lee-Barratt - he was the face of his glove supplier for a time.

Give it a rest mate.

Try being supportive of the players.

So called fans ruined Marshall too.

Nope the defence didn't trust him and he wasn't good at commanding his area

Although James Pullen was on another level of woefulness against Walsall I think

Sereni doesn’t even come close. He was actually a bloody good keeper. Did you ever watch him play for Town ?

Dean Gerken coming for a cross, was a lot like my Nan, both had dodgy hips and ideally needed to leave 10 minutes early to get to their destinations.

It's the mark of a great keeper to be better than you look in the warm up.

As a reminder for those who doubt him, over 2 seasons ALB played 38 games for us over the course of 2 seasons in those 38 games we averaged over 1.5 points per game, which over the course of a single season would have seen us flirting with the play offs rather than relegation as we were. We also did better with ALB in goal then we did with any other keeper in those two seasons.

I agree with you about ALB yes he was never going to play for England, but he done a decent job. There a keeper I keep trying to remember around that same time, had been an ITFC youth player, and we bought him from Watford (I think) , was even born in Ipswich area. Could not catch, could not communicate with his defense, flapped at everything from ground level to everything 50ft over the bar. I seem to recall he only lasted 1/2 a season with us.

I'm calling him, GK with no name...lol

It’s hard to know how bad Muric is.., you’re right. We’ve probably had a lot worse, at a lower level, with less scrutiny…, but then he’s had one good season in the EFL behind the best defence in that league by a mile.

At best he’s EFL pretty average, at worst he’s a lot worse than anyone thinks.

He’s playing mid table in Turkey and he’s lucky to get that move.

I get a feeling his stature and shot stopping will always see him ok, but he’s not even an average keeper, he’s very poor in some key areas…, I’m not sure how much better Palmer is though, they share some weaknesses.

And the list above contains a lot of dross I’d forgotten about, who are worse keepers, so you’re right about recency bias.

If Hladky was that stature, what a keeper, great with his feet, great shot stopper, agile, and would be better on crosses with some height.

Craig Forrest’s height, Hladky feet and agility and shot stopping…, I’m trying to think of a keeper who was great at taking crosses …, give me a hot minute

Can't agree with you at all. For me, Muric is still the best keeper at the club for how we play. Neither Palmer nor Walton have quality with their feet and they lack the aerial presence Muric does.
