Who we got lined up if broady and omari go? on 22:45 - Aug 6 by SuffolkPunchFC | They’ve already indicated that they intend to sell this Window. They rejected £15/16M last window (although I don’t think pushing higher than that would be an issue for us), BUT West Ham, Wolves, Palace, Forest, Everton, Bournemouth, Brentford and PSV have all been reported as making overtures. Palace did have a bid turned down in January. With so much higher tier interest, I just don’t see us being at the races. |
Ah didn't realise they wanted to sell when he is such a talent, guess PSR to consider given what already spent and then Isak or Baracola to come. Yes given that list we'd be very unlikely to get him. Palace fans seem a bit pissed off that they have a great manager and ended season well and with Europe the board aren't backing the manager with new signings.

Who we got lined up if broady and omari go? on 21:25 - Aug 6 by TRUE_BLUE123 | If we replaced Omari with Ray Sakyi I would cry. Backed him to have a big season with the blades last year and he was so underwhelming. Can't see him ever being a premier league calibre footballer. Doak on the other hand.... |
I look at every transfer window from the angle that we go back for players we’ve previously missed out on, and he seems the obvious one, as does Doak. I’m at the point where I’m not to bothered about who we sign each window now, I’m more interested as to who we miss out on as we’ll more than likely be back in for them the next window - so welcome Hayden Hackney for January (although I still think we get him this window).

It wouldn't shock me. Not to say our pull is irresistible but I was shocked he turned down what would have been, by all accounts, a massive increase in wages, with no sign of an improved contract coming at Boro. One could only assume there was murmurs that a Prem bid was coming, Everton maybe, Porto ? If that doesn't come id be amazed if offer isn't still on the table.

Who we got lined up if broady and omari go? on 20:37 - Aug 6 by tetchris | What we have seen over the past couple of seasons is that young players at PL clubs who aren’t probably going to be a regular starter in the first X1 at the likes of Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool etc are getting more and more expensive. You are looking at paying over £20 million for a young player who has probably made one or two appearances in the cup competitions or maybe a rare appearance on the bench or coming on in a PL game which is probably already won! Delap and Hutchinson are prime examples, very little if none first team appearances at PL level and all of a sudden they are worth £15-20 million and the selling club wants a % sell on clause. You get more value buying from abroad but the risk is probably greater as the player and his family has to settle in the UK. Rumours are Nottm Forest were quoted 28 million euros to sign Doak. |
We'll try and sign him in pounds though, so it'll be a smaller figure.

I think his Prem options are dwindling by the day (as I mentioned on another thread yesterday). Sunderland, Brentford (who are now also looking at signing another CM from PSV), Leeds, Burnley, Everton and Spurs have all signed centre mids, and United who have also been linked with him are targeting a £75m+ move for Baleba at Brighton. After that, I'm not sure if there would be anyone else interested in him. So you're right, I only wonder if it's a foreign move that could be on the cards. As I say, my hunch is that we will still get him.

Who we got lined up if broady and omari go? on 09:36 - Aug 7 with 551 views | Bluemike31 | I think it is also worth asking the question why nobody of any real significance other than us have made an offer for Hackney, I have always rated him but are we potentially up for paying way too much ? It just seems odd there's not much on the table for him as it stands.

Hackney will be lower on the list for quite a few teams. He would 100% would have been given vibes of interest from such clubs. Hence the reluctance to sign for us. When of the big teams miss out on targets he’ll end up leaving but Boro want him gone now to use the money in the window id imagine.

Wouldn't we have LM: J.Philogene, J.Clarke, S.Szmodics CAM: S.Szmodics, C.Chaplin RM: C.Ogbene, W.Burns It's pretty well stocked isn't it? [Post edited 7 Aug 10:08]

That's 6 players for 3 roles with one of them out until October. Given we like to change up the three behind the striker in most games, we'd want one more in there at least if Broadhead and Hutch go.

Akpom would provide 10 option, with Johnson as emergency RM. That's probably enough there, fine line between well stocked and overstocked in positions.

I can guarantee that if we lose Broadhead and Hutchinson we will be looking to strengthen in those roles. We have 6 players on the pitch in those roles every week and we won't want to be making do with Johnson (who we need at RB) as one of those options. Burns is out, according to you Philogene is out for months and you wouldn't register him, so can't see how we're anything other than light in those areas if Hutch and Broadhead both leave.

Also a fine line between that and fudging it & relying upon square pegs in round holes. We can't leave anything to chance and by the end of the window I'm sure we won't have.

I said apparently out long term, and that was what I thought as well, if that were true I wouldn't register him, along with Townsend, that's not an overly problematic observation. Relax, you don't need get so tetchy, you're bringing the inner Donald out again, it's just am Ipswich Town forum. [Post edited 7 Aug 12:49]

That is very true, part of the role of the management to make that judgement call, and look at depth in areas, and versatility from players.

I just wish people would show a bit of sense and not peddle obvious nonsense from social media on here is all. Nothing wrong with that. The world would be a better place if people treated stuff on social media with a bit more intellectual curiosity and discretion.

I think Hackney is a stretch a little too far if i'm honest, but you could be right. Ben Doak was one we also seemed to look to buy in January, but appears West Ham and Wolves are interested in him, and I think he genuinely is PL level, so can't see him coming in. Then Tom Fellows is one I really like and would suit us in the Championship, but Southampton are on that one early, probably Dibling paying for it if that goes ahead. Going back to Rak Sakyi, I can see the appeal, but he wasn't particularly impactful for Sheffield and doesn't carry the ball like Omari does, that said, he's slightly better at taking on a player when he does get those chances and is obviously a left footer playing on the right. He's a bit behind Omari at the same age, but could just be a little later developing, this season seems like he really needs to have a good one. I wonder if Kieran could do more with him. As I see it, he some way off Clarke and Hutchinson.
