We had a very interesting experience in Belgium the other year.
We visited Bruges and went to the chocolate museum there. Lots and lots of content about the discovery of chocolate, its history, its uses etc., Absolutely zip on how it ended up in Belgium and how Belgium ended up becoming a world leader on the chocolate scene.
And the less said about chocolate hands the better... |

"HMRC made their staff attend" - no they didn't. It was a seminar being hosted by a network of colleagues within HMRC. Attendance will have not been mandatory in any way shape or form

I worked for HMRC, was based there for cross govt project work too and know a lot of people that worked there and still do.
You are 100% correct. There were lots of seminars, presentations etc on lots of subjects by different groups and I don’t remember one of them being compulsory. There was also tons of things published on the Intranet (one or two articles by me!) but there was no compulsory anything when it came to it.
The nearest I saw to dictating to staff was when the tories came in and before dumping 1000s of tax inspectors justified the action by telling the ‘always remember, when it comes to paying tax everyone is honest’. |  | | |
