It’s a 46 game season. It’s Birmingham’s cup final. We still have some business to complete. Yeah it’s disappointing and not ideal if we lose or draw… but it’s not the end of the world.
Before the down votes come in this isn’t a “pre-flounce” it’s just trying to keep some people.

this is about as tough a game as we could have had, just promoted, away, Friday night game. They will be up for it and it's not a easy place to go and win for us at the best of times.

Likewise we could also hump them like a horny old dog on a leg. We are coming down from the Prem and have real quality and a desire to return there as quickly as possible.
It's not arrogant that 90% of the division should be hesitant coming up against us and we are not even fully cooked yet and ready to get going. Pre empting peoples' reactions is a bit pointless to me. Just add them to the list of people no worth listening to and accept some people are moaning types. |  |

I always find it very hard to gauge where we are in terms of form and quality until the team have faced proper League competition.
Doubly so for tonight, given that Brum are only just promoted, but won L1 handsomely, are generously funded and appear to have recruited well over the summer. There is little to go on regarding their real position, either. It also being an away fixture.
On paper we should more than match them, but it is going to be tricky and games can turn on chance (a slip, ball given away, reffing decision).
Certainly neither teams' season will be defined by tonight's result, tho it could affect morale significantly if the game is heavily skewed one way or the other. |  |

Honestly, with everyone fit and available (get David, Cajuste, Philogene and Hutchinson in that team and we are pretty scary for the level) i'd just be excited... with transfers throwing a couple of positions in to doubt and some injury concerns, i'm pretty nervous. |  | | |

A record points total and no home defeats last season does suggest they are on something of a roll. They have also presumably strengthened the squad and will have a bit of new-promoted bounce,. so not an easy game at all [Post edited 8 Aug 9:51]

The cup final thing is obviously a bit tongue in cheek, but they do seem to be going wuite American about the whole thing with a gig before the game etc.

Agree. I am not confident about tonight at all, but you never know. It feels like there’s lots of work to be done with more players leaving and hopefully arriving and I don’t sense the tight knit unit of two years ago. Probably my fears rather than how it is, since I actually have no idea.
Yes, it’s a long old season, so no need to think too much on tonight. Six games in we will have an indication of where we are and even then, it’ll only be an indication.
The trouble is the less objective of the supporters (the small but noisy minority) will not be interested in any of that. Lose tonight and the knives will be well and truly out. I think this is the toughest game of the season - away to a team full on confidence, belief and momentum who've spent big money, it would have been far better to play them after 10 games when they've had a couple of disappointing results |  |

I think that is an important difference in perspective.
Brum are just revelling in being back on the up again. Apart from a late autumn dip, they rode at the top of L1 the whole of last season, they didn't have to fight tooth-and-nail the whole way like us. To use an (archaic) Americanism, they are feeling "swell".
Town, on the other hand, simply have a job to do. It is a cold, hard project of winning promotion, but from a position of relative strength this time. We are used to grim struggles, wavering fortunes and the long haul. | |

I dunno, I'm feeling very optimistic now. Think we humble them massively. Bear in mind we'll probably be putting out a very similar / probably stronger 11 than the one that beat Coventry 4-1 and they finished the season one of the best teams in league. The only threat IMO is that the atmosphere throws us off but I think we have a good enough mentality for that. |  | | |

Am I wrong In thinking they've only been out of this level for 1 season. I get the excitement of a new season. But i do personally find their levels of excitement a bit ott if I'm right in thinking it's only season. It its more then I get it.
Apart from that. Tough game. Win would be lovely. Draw ok. Loss. Oh well next week. |  |
