Looks like Akpom can potentially play in all our 4 attacking roles 21:18 - Aug 10 with 3274 views | unstableblue | Hirst is our number one centre forward I don’t see Akpom being a sub to replace Hirst at 70mins Wonder which position he’ll end up taking? He seems versatile: Forward (Centre) 19 Attacking Midfielder (Centre) 19 Forward (Right) 7 Forward (Left) 4 Attacking Midfielder (Right) 1 We needed this versatility - looking forward to seeing him play

My spidey senses lead me to think he’ll become the number 10 on 21:32 - Aug 10 with 2611 views | unstableblue |

But you’re right a good signing Top tiers in Europe, and proven Chanpionship Don’t think he’s the full Premier League level we seek, but he’s better than top championship

I think we might see some more competition come in for the 9 spot to do that. Akpom then a regular starter behind the 9 but a good insurance policy if one of the 'regular 9s' gets injured.

Looks like Akpom can potentially play in all our 4 attacking roles on 21:57 - Aug 10 with 2430 views | Chris_ITFC | Our RW isn’t a typical RW, and really nor is our LW. He’ll be competition with Hirst, but versatile to get minutes elsewhere… It’s what we need, like Leicester (Ayew/Daka) and Southampton (Armstrong/Stewart/Archer/Downs). Hirst isn’t going to start every game. We now have 2 top quality CFs. If you want better options than AAH, not everyone can start every game.

Looks like Akpom can potentially play in all our 4 attacking roles on 22:00 - Aug 10 with 2395 views | Nthsuffolkblue | My thought is that Akpom plays as first choice striker and Hirst is the change. Akpom provides options should we be short elsewhere. I may be wrong, though. If Al Hamadi also has flexibility to play wide that helps too.

I hope you’re right. I’m expecting him to be a good, solid contributor to the squad and team. But I’m not seeing anything in his past to suggest we should expect him to be ‘astonishing’ - how much can McKenna weave his magic and improve him?

"I’m not seeing anything in his past to suggest we should expect him to be ‘astonishing’" 28 goals from 41 Championship appearances last time he played in it (22-23), 11 Eredivisie goals in 25 matches in 23-24 as well as 3 Europa League goals in 6 appearances. Not such a good season last season in Ligue 1 in France but he is clearly a very good player.

If you don’t think 28 goals in a championship season isn’t astonishing then you are very hard to please

Looks like Akpom can potentially play in all our 4 attacking roles on 21:54 - Aug 10 by Trequartista | So who's going to replace Hirst on 70? |
Hirst played the full game on Friday evening, maybe this is a sign that he is over the injuries and at full fitness. Hirst on the pitch for the full game most games would be a great boost to our intensity in my opinion. I think Akpom and Hirst can play off each other, a relationship that can improve over the course of the season. Al-Hamadi provides a different approach if we need it. And then there is Buabo, who doesn't count towards the squad limit.

I can't see McKenna wanting to have to play his main 9 for 90 minutes very often personally. Think it was more a case of 'needs must' on Friday rather than anything else.

Is Buabo fully recovered and fit after his very serious and lengthy injury? Would love to see him get more first team minutes if so.

AAH could play the Left Forward in McKenna's system, cutting in, with Davis overlapping. Remember the old tactic we had of Jon Walters as a Right Forward, up against an isolated Full Back to win headers? We could have AAH on the left and Akpom on the right doing this.
Looks like Akpom can potentially play in all our 4 attacking roles on 04:00 - Aug 11 with 1270 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | I think the venality means we might loan Ali and seek out a more like for like Hirst type player for a decent fee but I’m not sure. Not saying we should spend for sake of it but we really have not spent big for a parachute team, if Omari goes it would be 70M in sales, plus parachute money with just Matusiwa and some loan fees plus a percentage of wages. That’s really quite low, would rule out a big splash in CM or up front yet.

Akpom as a 10 means a new striker can get decent minutes sharing with Hirst. Still a bit of business left to do. Akpom's versatility is pretty handy.

I love Hirst, but if we don’t have the pulling power to be looking to bring in an equivalent, or an upgrade, on him, then I’d be surprised.
