… linked last summer so wonder if we’re one of the 2 clubs?

I'd be very surprised if we weren't interested if there is a chance to sign him.

Was just about to post about him being on the radar. Mentioned him a few weeks ago. I wonder if Billing being nearly done means he's the back up or we get both.

Believe so, it's down to contract length now I thought.

Agreed with the above, would be surprised if we hadn't at least made a tentative approach. And would be absolutely stunned if Birmingham haven't...

Would tick a lot of boxes if a deal could be done, although imagine it would be challenging.

I wouldn't think so, £10m would be overpaying slightly and he'd have a route back into potentially Prem football. Plus he swapped with/replaced Jens in France, and will know Azor so it's worth considering anyway.

Exactly my thoughts.

Do they have another £9m-£10m in headroom to spend? Furthermore, where would they play Jordan James? Paik and Iwata are like Brum's Luongo and Morsy - and they've got Tommy Doyle in reserve.

I thought we hadn't agreed a fee with Bournemouth?

Central midfield options of Billing, Cajuste, James, Matisuwa and one of Taylor or Humphreys will put us in a good position for the season.

Could say the same about us though if we get Billing.

Yes, please. I’ve been banging this drum all summer.

Edit - I note he wouldn’t count towards our squad limit either. Get it done.

With him being more of a Jens, and I'd put billing in that bracket too. It doesn't really make sense in terms of squad makeup to have only one Morsy type. Is my thinking anyway.

You'd then sell Taylor, who is in the last year of his deal. I'd imagine that is something we ideally want to do this summer.

Cajuste, Matusiwa, Billing and James would an absurd four at this level. But if we want to leave nothing to chance this season and also build a side that needs minimal tweaking when we get promoted, you can argue that it is necessary. Keeping players happy is what McKenna is paid for.

Don't disagree at all, my point was more that Birmingham are in a similar position to us in that respect.

If we end the transfer window for arguments sake with that 4, an Omari replacement (the young Norwegian lad) and a top #9 then you could make a strong argument that our squad is stronger now than last season, despite the departures.

Seen a few posts like this today with 0 idea where it has come for.

I’m hoping it’s true, would be a crazy signing.

Same for Jordan James. Very good player he a good fit for us

When we beat them Birmingham e-1 at Portman Road he scored and looked a terrific prospect.

Would we be that close to a deal for Billings if only yesterday we were getting knocked back for Lewis Miley?

I can see us going for both Billing and Miley. We need more than one additional CM in my opinion. Last year we had five - Morsy, Cajuste, Phillips, Luongo and Taylor.

We have no idea when we made the enquiry for Miley, only that it was reported yesterday

No idea. I hope so though. We need a bit of height in the team still I think. Billing can also play in the 10 as well. Would be fun.

Yesterday was when the news came out, we don't know what date it actually occurred. Or, indeed, if parallel enquiries were being made simultaneously, to see which is liable to bear most fruit.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

True, but things tend to come out quite quickly these days

Also can't imagine if we were going for both that Newcastle would want one of their young stars being part of a 4 man rotation in the centre of midfield
