Whether we sign anyone else or not, getting this one over the line is key. The loss of Hutchinson AND Broadhead has really undone us against teams like Preston that go into a low block, and in the team currently we don't have anyone who can unlock defences like that with guile and trickery.
The pass to set up the goal on this is ridiculous.
I assume this is still ongoing and hopefully will get done, would be bemused if we decided to sign mcateer over him, his ceiling is arguably nowhere near as high as SWE’s will be. Big week ahead.

I'm a little concerned that our recent form has resulted in this one being put on the back burner. We need to spend big money on a midfielder and striker who are the finished article. Do we have a spare £20 million to spend on potential when our shortcomings the pitch ae pretty obvious.
I'm not sure we should buy anyone else at the moment. If we can't get a tune out of our squad why keep adding to it. Yates from forest would be the only one I'd buy and doubt he is even available. We need more fight in the team.

Sounds a bit desperate relying on a relatively unknown 19 year old to dig us out. Didn't we spend 100 million + last year? Isn't Mckenna supposed to be a top class coach? If we can't find players amongst our squad to create goals then we've literally sp#nked a 100 million quid away.

Spot on.
No single player, let alone a teenager from overseas should come in with that level of expectation from any fan.
We have more than enough in the squad to be up there challenging this year. And will succeed or fail as a collective not because of any one player.

This, this and this again. Egeli sounds like a real one for the future, but shouldn't be relied on as a gamechanger because our other big money spends are struggling. The best we can probably hope for is another Hutchinson - a slow start before growing into the role.
"in depth dossier" = youtube clips put together by agency or some 13yo in their Mum's basement.
That said, he does look exciting so hopefully he joins. If he does, he like all the players, will have my full support.
I shall reserve judgement on whether he's a game changer though until I've actually seen him play!
You would imagine some clubs do actually invest in watching this type of talent over longer periods of time to see how they develop physically, personally, game wise. There are probably at least 5-10 clubs across Europe that will have to keep tabs on this type of talent plus others that would prefer a club like ITFC to take the first risk then will be happy to take the second at 20-40m eg Brighton.

Yeah great and that’s the level of due diligence I would expect a professional sports team to carry out before investing 20m EUR.
My point is simply I highly doubt that’s the level of DD the OP or anybody else making such claims has to hand - given, as I say, most of us had never heard of him until a week ago.

Isn’t taking first risk on players exactly what Brighton have done successfully again and again? That’s what they are brilliant at.

Agreed. No one had heard of him on here a week ago, now a 19 year old will be a the missing piece according to some on here, hogwash! People just look at a few show reels and make out they are experts. Same as that Uruguay defender. I’d never heard of him either. Bet most hadn’t either.

Thing is, people have heard of him though. Just because the vast majority haven’t, doesn’t mean there isn’t a few that have.
He’s a really exciting talent, fits the mould of how we play with a striker, but also fits our right wing slot with his left foot like Omari did, albeit a little less pace than Omari. All the noises have been that he’d get a top move, so if we do somehow get it over the line it’ll honestly be a massive coup for us.
The only reason why I know about him is because I take an interest in certain clubs and their ‘groups’. City Group, Red Bull Group and The Right to Dream group that this Danish side form a part of. That way you get a knowledge of those clubs, the players that play for them and then I somehow find myself watching a decent proportion of games.

Don’t know much about the Uruguayan lad, mind.
We did just spend 12M on a right sided attacker so I’m not sure if we will spend another 17, lets see.

You touch on it there but McKenna alluded in his interview after the game that they are looking for a bit more straight line speed in that position which we lost in Omari.
I like Egeli and his skillset and just wonder if he is someone we maybe see as long term number 9, think that's been the opinion of a lot of those in Norway that, that is where he will end up. Speed isn't really his thing, same for Mcateer.
That being said, we are crying out for a RW winger who is ideally left footed and comfortable coming inside. Clarke and Ogbene are neither of those things and Im les than convinced on Mcateer for now.

It would mean you could spend £17m (heck of a lot of money) for someone who can cover both positions, and I suspect McKenna being the manager he is would drip feed him in certain games up front, and then other games on the wing depending on the opposition.
Would also leave money to strengthen elsewhere if we can get someone to cover both slots. What also makes it a good signing is that he’s under 21 and doesn’t count towards a squad place.

Ive done him to death on here but Million Manhoef has started this season superbly for stoke on and off the ball he is exactly what we are missing on that right hand side. Can't see us putting the money up that Stoke want mind.
A pace left footed winger, who can carry the ball and go 1v1, we will look instantly better. Will suit Szmodics more and whoever we have number 9. It is so important.

Would wager even those that have wouldn’t label a teenager from overseas as the key signing or the “game changer”.
A coup maybe, given the interest in him, but then so was Kalvin Phillips.

Why do people come out with this stuff. Somebody else on here a few days ago described him as a game changing signing.
Like the the rest of us - fairly certain you’d never heard of him until a week ago. Let alone ever seen him play.
But still, he’s the key.

I've just watched half of that highlights video and am actually underwhelmed. I am sure there are highlights videos of Clarke and Philogene that are 10x better than that.
Of course, it is about how the players do for us that matters and not what they have or haven't done in the past.

I’m not sure what Stoke would value him at but I would’ve 100% been chucking the McAteer money at Manhoef instead if it was down to me! Very good player.

Yep. McKenna said he wanted more pace and 1v1 ability so we’ve signed a player who specialises in neither of those things. The signing baffles me if im honest.
