Conor Chaplin on 15:05 - Sep 1 by GlasgowBlue | Sadly I called this a few day ago. Derby is massive for Clarke and Philogene by GlasgowBlue 30 Aug 6:30Jaden has been one of our better players in the past three games. I don’t see his place being in danger from any of the players you have listed. I would imagine that now we have options on the right that Clarke will move to being Jaden’s replacement on 70 minutes.
Akpon will be challenging Szmodics for the 10 spot, Azon is Hirst’s back up, McAteer will share time on the right with Ogbene and Egelinwill be that wild card to come on with a free role towards the end of games.
The two player you have mentioned who I think are in danger of being moved on are Burns and Chaplin. Wouldn’t surprise me to see burns de registered until January and Chaplin end up at Portsmouth, either on loan or a permanent deal. I had hoped his start on Saturday had put pay to it but we've been unable to shift Johnson or H Clarke so we are a man over in squad numbers. 4 fcuking right backs in the squad so our talisman may well pay the price. As good as some of the recent signings have been, this wndow has not gone well. |
But this would be very disappointing indeed. Not surprised no one wants to take on Johnson’s wages. Not a great bit of business but hey ho, you win some you lose some. [Post edited 1 Sep 15:15]

With Baggott & Humphreys possibly out too, would just leave Burns as the only one left from when McKenna arrived?

Conor Chaplin on 15:08 - Sep 1 by JakeITFC | Surely just don't register one of the right backs - I don't think we'd let Chaplin (or indeed Baggott) go without a replacement. |
Bagott now looks likely to go and we bring in McGuiness. Can't see we de register Ben Johnson who must be on massive wages. We only just bought Furlong in as we expected to move Johnson but there are no takers. No idea how long H Clarke is out for.

Could be just another manager who has to justify how much moneys spent to the board, Doesn't always run like that in business, The key was total togetherness from Ashton to the players, I'd deffinatly question this today, McKenna I'm not convinced he has any idea how to turn it, Has never known his first eleven since Xmas of the promotion year, He won't be here next August, Bookmark this,

Where has that Furlong info come from? Seems unlikely we would sign him without BJ going first?

Chappers going would be like the last raven to leave the Tower of London. He's the heart and soul of the back to back promotion team.

Why else would we sign Furlong when we already had three right backs in the squad already?

To provide cover for left back from Young/Johnson, Clarke seems the odd man out to me (considering he's fit this month).

Because Young is now also second choice LB, and I guess there wasn't a LB we deemed of value to sign.

Conor Chaplin on 15:21 - Sep 1 by GlasgowBlue | Why else would we sign Furlong when we already had three right backs in the squad already? |
Because we've got 1 left back, but 2 of our right backs (young especially) can cover there. So we've taken the opportunity to upgrade at RB, bring in a reliable and proven player at this level who stylistically is more akin to Tuanzebe, and get back to 4 players to cover those 2 positions. Johnson won't be going.

I feel the same. Chappers is one of those players who is greater than the sum of his parts and I understand that some people feel the same way about Woolfie. I'm guessing this is how it must've felt when Cooper and Macall left in 87, the last two of the 81 team.

Why would we sign Furlong with adequate cover in the short term even if Clarke and BJ left? McKenna seemed pretty clear it was to cover the full back positions. So this is based purely on speculation?

The clear fact is with no Morsy there seems to be a real loss of drive or determination on the pitch and Chappers on Saturday was the only one who seemed to be trying to re-instil that. He should be captain not sent out on loan!?!

I believe in Ashton and McKenna so i'm 95% on board...but there's 5% gnawing away my insides thinking Woolf, Burgess, Morsy, Chaplin and Broadhead is the spine of a very good team at this level... [Post edited 1 Sep 16:14]

What doesn't add up is, if we were looking to move him on, why did we start him on Saturday? Why are we loaning him out when he's so close to the first team and, as far as we're aware, not asked to move? Or has the offer coming in and he's now pushing for it as they're guaranteeing him a starting place rather than rotation at best?

Pah, some of us were calling it in April… The club will surely have known by C_HealyIsAPleasure 10 Apr 7:02I don’t think it’s far out
As a minimum it seems we’re going to need to replace at least one GK, Tuanzebe, Burgess, at least 2 CM’s, Enciso and Delap. Add to that possible departures of Davis and Omari (O’Shea could garner interest aswell), plus natural attrition (would it be a huge shock if Taylor was sold? Burns or even Chaplin?) and it could easily be 10+ coming in again
