So the Labour government despite all their promises 17:01 - Sep 5 with 1289 viewsonceablue

Are as dodgy as the last lot.

Amazing that she didn’t pay the right amount of tax despite insisting the rest of the Country does.

Evette Cooper a demotion as well. Well she has hardly improved the illegal immigration situation.

Jus goes to show whoever you vote for they are all the bleeding same

She should have got the proper advice, but SDLT can be pretty pernicious. It doesn't have much nuance to it to allow for any unusual situations.

I got divorced, and signed an agreement with my ex that she and the kids could stay in the house until the youngest was 18. I am still a part owner of that house, but am legally excluded from using it in any way shape or form.

When I went to buy a new house, I had to pay the higher rate of SDLT (£21k instead of £5k) as it counted as a second home, despite not having any use of the other house.

So I have some sympathy with the fact that she had to pay the higher rate, when she doesn't seem to just have a second home, it is there due to the exceptional difficult circumstances of her child. There are probably lots of people in the same boat paying the higher rate.

What an utterly dishonest post. Drawing such obviously false equivalences, ignoring that the swift result demosntrates far higher integrity standards than the previous government, and ignoring facts- like Rayner's integrity has not been impugned at all.

Yep - though she "ignored two warnings that she should seek expert tax advice on her stamp duty payment" according to the ethics adviser. She's no worse than the Tories but little better.

Amazing isn't it?

AR swerved £40k on taxes and resigned.

Boris had a hand in millions dying while he partied and gave millions of pounds of our money to his mates... he didn't resign.

Zahawi 'accidentally underpaid' his tax by £5 million and didn't resign (admittedly was sacked after a lot of public pressure...)

Rob Roberts made repeated unwanted sexual advances to his staff. Was suspended for a bit then welcomed back.

Dominic Cummings tested his eyes by driving during lockdown. Backed by his PM.

Boris took bungs to 'decorate his flat'. No problem.

Hancock chirpsed his own staff during lockdown.

Boris took more bungs to pay for a holiday in Mustique

Owen Paterson lobbied on behalf of companies he was paid by on the side.

Griffiths found guilty of rape, Elphicke of sexual assault. Both replaced by their own wives.

The man appointed to look into the lockdown parties was found to have been AT the parties.

Warburton accused of cocaine use and sexual harassment.

Parish caught watching porn in the House of Commons.

Another MP accused of rape.

Pincher accused of groping staff.

But THEY'RE ALL JUST AS BAD AS EACH OTHER.

Do you know how routine it is to just add "if in doubt you should seek specialist tax advice" as a catchall in routine legal correspondence?

The ethics adviser was absolutely clear that she acted with integrity and honesty throughout. Very very very different.

Wouldn't bother wasting your time tbh, the political prejudice and deliberate blinkering is clearly in full spate, perhaps fuelled by a certain party conference currently being smeared across our screens like dirty washing

Exactly. We had the same caveats plastered all over our paperwork when we bought our first house, which didn't come anywhere near the SDLT threshold.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

If you’d ever met any and knew them you’d know that’s not true. Most are like the rest of us. Some nice, some horrible, some honest, some not so, some caring, some not so.

You do know that Boris Johnson deliberately refused to allow the publication of reports that said he had broken rules, when he was Prime Minister, don't you?

Clung on to power. Refused to allow the truth to be told.

Rayner has realised that she has made a mistake and taken responsibility for it. Not quite as quickly as she could have, but quicker than the previous Archbishop of Canterbury, for example, and if it were a Grand Prix then she would have lapped Boris five or six times.

From 2018

"Jeremy Hunt received a “bulk discount” on seven flats bought from a Conservative donor, the Guardian can disclose, as parliament’s watchdog opened an investigation into the health secretary’s admission that he breached money laundering rules."

Didn't do him any harm did it.
