Slightly surprised by the level of negativity on here tbh 21:57 - Sep 30 with 3669 viewsDubtractor

We'll see many more games like that this season, where teams largely look to nullify us and play on the counter. We need to be better in the final third, and a few players weren't at their best tonight, but we're not going to rock up to the grounds of play off chasing teams and blow them away. It just isn't going to happen, and I think some of our fanbase need to recalibrate their expectations a bit.

That's 7 points from the last 3 games, and the chance to shut the budgies up on Sunday.

There is plenty to be getting behind, if you want to.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

We are 13th in the championship with a net spend of £100m of players who should be embarrassing at this level.

I'm surprised by how meek some of our fans expectations are given our context. Fair enough if it was still in the Evans days but the game has changed. Literally.

I mean we win our game in hand and we are 4th....without firing on all cylinders. That's how early in the season and how silly this is.

My expectations and most on here is promotion. Could understand if we just missed top 2 and playoffs kick us in the nuts but would ultimately be failure.

It's not meek to understand we have mostly a new team and 7 games only have been played. It's just understanding the context of football and where our team is. The expectation is over the season not 7 games.

Expectations are high and until we start being more clinical and not giving away poor goals there won't be any ringing endorsements of a team that cost megabucks, I guess. After such a tough watch last year I do think a few people are a little too content with our performances because we had a lot of the ball, that is always going to happen.

The result and performance is ok (from the bits I saw which wasn't all of it), as usual people going to far in extreme both ways.

I didn't think there was not a tone of composure at times from either side though. Game was just begging show some quality and find a second goal. With our team, it isn't crazy for us to expect to find it.

Didn't want to go into Sunday with a loss, so that's a relief. Win that and everyone will be more happy with the week.

5 started tonight who regularly played in the Prem. The gradual tempering of people's expectations is amazing.

We are underperforming, it's fine. I just dont accomodate the excuses. We need to improve and get promoted. Sort of end of story for me.

Roughly agree with you.... at times we look slick moving the ball around the middle of the pitch.

However, I am concerned about our defence structures, set piece plays and general robustness.

Happy to take a point tonight but being honest if we had pushed on that could have been 3 points.

Agree too early to get the knives out but for me we are still very disjointed in how we play.

Roll on Sunday at some point we have to click... dont we?

13th, with a game in hand and a squad that has massive potential once everything kicks.

You could see the potential at times tonight, and that will realise itself soon enough.

We do seem to have a fair number of fans that have evolved into what many of us despise of fans at other clubs in the past. Just like (for example) the entitled Leeds fans, who expected to just turn up and win.

I’d have taken a point before the game began. Now for 3 points on Sunday…

We should be expecting to turn up and win given the amount of money we have spent and players at our managers disposal. What will be the excuse when we fail to win on Sunday?

I think it's you who needs to temper their own expectations. Did you really expect us to hit the ground running from game 1? We had one of the toughest starts to the season fixture-wise. Win our game in hand and we would be top 6 and a point or two off autos without getting out of SECOND gear! Wind your neck in.

Our fixtures are tough? We brought on £40m of wingers against Bristol City.

Yeah, it's ok and plenty there to be positive about for sure but it's just not there yet. Maybe we shouldn't be so surprised with such a high turnover but at times it feels like a team of individuals more than concise units.

I just don't see a tone of clean sheets, loads of flash half chances for Bristol second half, they snatched at them luckily and a ball over the top again that could have easily resulted in a loss. Our XG, if you buy that stuff is probably ok at both ends of the pitch but really we are going to have to learn to score 2/3 a game to get maximum points more often than not, I think.

There was a moment Davis got round the back of Clarke at 1-1, I couldn't help think that's a goal 9 times out of 10 two years ago!

So you're happy with our 4 away displays given our outlay and relative stability in playing and management staff? 5/6 or so who started tonight regularly played in the prem last season. Palmer, Davis, O'Shea, Greaves, Clarke, Cajuste/Philogene/Hirst.

Yes that’s exactly what I said.

I know you’ve been on a massive negativity trip since last season and now nothing but tonking every opponent in sight is good enough (although if we do do that you just say it’s because of poor opposition) but is it really necessary to be such an overreactive crybaby all the time?

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Can't get on board with anyone saying we were poor tonight, or that we were particularly good for that matter. It was a performance with some bright points and some fairly clear areas to improve, and a point away at Bristol is a reasonable outcome. We can hope for more cutting edge on Sunday

Yes, tough. Funny you use the word war. Every Championship game is a war of attrition. It's never as easy as controlling a game from start to finish.

Calm down.

To be clear, I think we need to improve on what we've seen so far, away from home in particular, but I see more positive signs than negative.

But on tonight in particular, it's just a very typical away point in a tough fixture, and it's nothing to be getting worked up about. (Not suggesting you are btw).

Just saying what I see bud. Down arrow all you want but the signs are there for those who want to see them. Namely we are tactically one-dimensional, predictable and have spent excessively for too many similar players. I love centre mid though, have to say.

I really hope I'm wrong and it comes together.

Think they will be as the season goes on

Egeli.. raw first time playing English football . ( remember how omari ended up after 6 month of first ever senior loan)
Akpom. No pre season
Cajuste is
Nunez had ankle injury getting over it
Mcateer hmm
Azon.. signs are there but will take a few months
Furlong. Solid
Young. Back up

Nunez is fit, hes been on the bench last 3 games , just a poor game for him tonight

So your expectation was thumping wins every week from the off because five players regularly played in the Premiership. Oh and presumably because transfer fees were spent.

Nobody’s expectations have been tempered. But human behaviour is not as simple as your Gameboy or whatever you are into. These people are human beings, however much they cost and whatever their skill level. So are the opposition.

Sport is not as simple as better players mean a result is certain. If it was Liverpool would not have lost to Palace the other day and nobody would be interested in any of it anyway because the result would already be certain. That’s why I hate the concept of the PL.

We have to all intents and purposes a new team. Players from all sorts of place have arrived at differing times - some with no pre season more than one carrying an injury. Few new teams automatically gel - Sunderland’s has and that’s credit to them, but it’s not the norm. Never has been.

If we are mid table end of November running into Christmas, I’ll be concerned. Patience and time have to be allowed to work their magic. We live in a world where people demand instant results then bawl and wet the bed when they don’t get them. Sign of the times I guess but not my way.

The team will come together in my view. Watching Saturday, we are not too far away and have relative talent in abundance compared to the likes of Portsmouth.

The time for toys out of the pram is not now. Maybe not even Christmas, but certainly end of the season. The target, with 39 games to go, has to be top two and anything outside that will be disappointing and outside play offs, worse than that.

For me the season always starts in October. Until then you can only rule yourself out of good things as Sheffield U appear to have done - but even with them it’s a bit too early for judgements.

29 up votes, 2 down.

Says everything you need to know.

Most sane people will think decent away point against a top ten team.

The why cant we beat every team in the league at least 3 nil brigade will think... erm just that.

This tedious crap will continue all season.

I thought we were shoite, FWIW. Slow and ponderous trying to play out and probably more worrying for me is how easy it is for teams to play through or around us. Run through us, pass through us, get balls down the wings and in behind, it doesn’t really matter as it’s all too easy. It’s not a good mix unfortunately.
