Kasey McAteer 13:07 - Oct 20 with 3394 views | GlasgowBlue | We paid £7.5 million for him when we had Chiedozie Ogbene in the building. Not an inconsiderable fee. In the last two games McKenna has put Jaden on the right when bringing on Jack Clarke and left McAteer on the bench. McKenna has always preferred to freshen up his front four in the final 20-25 minutes so it seems quite odd that he is preferring to play Jaden out of position when his race has been run in preference to bringing in a frsh McAteer. Has KM lost faith in McAteer already? I hope to be proved wrong tomorrow night.

Kasey McAteer on 13:10 - Oct 20 with 2763 views | Wallingford_Boy | Philogene is far superior and Clarke is decent on the left. Sindre will be decent. Wes is back soon. Johnson is still alive (I think). McAteer was always an odd one and seems to look even odder now!

Kasey McAteer on 13:10 - Oct 20 with 2772 views | J2BLUE | We were chasing the game. I see McAteer as a more solid option on that side. I think we might see him start the next away game and possibly against West Brom as well. I would be surprised if Egeli doesn't start Tuesday.

Kasey McAteer on 13:12 - Oct 20 with 2734 views | Herbivore | Philogene played 90 minutes a lot when he was at Hull so I think his natural fitness is pretty good, prone to the odd knock though. Philogene can produce something out of nothing so I can see the logic in leaving him on when we need a goal. If we'd been 2-0 up on Friday, I expect we'd have seen McAteer on instead. I think he'll start tomorrow too.

But we weren't chasing the Norwich game and the same thing happened. Egeli was clearly not 100% on Friday. I'd be amazed if he isn't rested.

We were chasing a third goal to put the game to bed against Norwich though. You don't want to be trying to sit on a one goal lead in a game like that. Think it's just horses for courses.

Kasey McAteer on 13:29 - Oct 20 with 2442 views | OsborneOneNil | McAteer clearly needs to up his game as he's looked poor. See also: Akpom.
Kasey McAteer on 13:31 - Oct 20 with 2422 views | mellowblue | It was a puzzling decision with Ogbene probably a month away from fully up to speed and Burns a only few more months to go. Especially with Walli, Clarke, Philogene and Johnson able to play that position. If the worst was to happen Harry Clarke, Szmodics or Akpom could have stood in on the right on a temporary basis. Seemed very unnecessary at the time. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Just a reminder that most of our points won in the Prem last year were won when Johnson played RW/RM. He is really solid there, and was solid there against players with a lot more ability than most Championship Left Backs and Left Wingers. Fine to bring in a different kind of player like Walle Egeli, who I believe will become a superb performer, but to bring in McAteer over Johnson is a befuddler!

Yes I agree that 'if' we need a solid option wide right, Johnson is the one. In the Championship, I would prefer one of our many marauders, be it Philogene, Clarke, Egeli, Wes or even Ogbene. But given the embarrassment of riches out there (those who naturally play on the right or those who can swap from the left if needed), I don't understand McAteer, especially given the size of the fee. But: (a) he may yet prove us wrong, and (b) if we succeed having wasted money on him, we've still succeeded. We have parachute payments - we must go up whilst we still do.
Kasey McAteer on 13:39 - Oct 20 with 2336 views | MrPotatoHead | He wanted Clarke on the left and also wanted to leave Philogene on, who can produce something out of nothing. It also meant 1 change rather than 2. I think McAteer will start tomorrow.

Kasey McAteer on 13:43 - Oct 20 with 2263 views | TNBlue | I dont think he has lost faith, but he wasnt really effective in the games he played in. I imagine he has to up his game a bit and impress in training to get back in the side.
Kasey McAteer on 13:47 - Oct 20 with 2186 views | Devereuxxx | This is the incoming transfer for me that made little sense in the summer, and then makes even less sense now. My only thought was one of the following had happened: - There was a hold up with the Walle-Egali transfer which we thought might be fatal, needed an alternative. - McAteer's underlying data was ridiculous so we thought him worth the fee. - Ogbene had some set back on his recovery so wouldn't be full throttle for months. But none of those appear to be true. I still think he has plenty of time to come good, but its still a head-scratcher.

I think they probably didn't want to carry the risk of having two players in the same position who were coming back from long term injuries and were looking at getting someone in with that same sort of profile where that wasn't a concerns. They couldn't loan/sell Burns as he wasn't back to full fitness. If Burns had been ahead/on par with Ogbene in his rehab I think there's a good chance that Burns might have been the one to go.

Kasey McAteer on 13:51 - Oct 20 with 2123 views | Everydayblue | Can see why KM has left Jaden on the pitch though surely? He's recently produced moments of magic, and possibly our best player on current form.. Most likely see some rotation during the 3 game week.

Made sense to me. His injury was serious, that kind of achilles injury is going to affect him significantly, notably his pace. He was very unlikely to be the same player following that, sadly.

Kasey McAteer on 14:06 - Oct 20 with 1926 views | itfcsuth | Think it was £11m. Paid £9m for Ogbene, sent him out on loan, spent another £11m to bring in a new option who looks less effective than Ogbene. Player trading.
Kasey McAteer on 14:08 - Oct 20 with 1904 views | JakeITFC | I think it is important to remember that Ogbene is a few years older, coming back after a nasty injury and not very good. That is the poor signing of the two.

Agree - I was quite surprised to see him Walle Egeli ahead of him on Friday and think we'd have been much more solid with McAteer in - possibly down to when McAteer got back from international duty and how much match prep they had done by then?

Kasey McAteer on 14:28 - Oct 20 with 1699 views | JammyDodgerrr | I don't think it's that hard to understand why we have him; we wanted Sidnre, deal looked off, we moved on to our next target and got him, then Sindre became available so we went back in, but obviously had already signed McAteer.

Along with Furlong!? I think he's been one of the better of the new signings!
