| Next 7 games will define the season and fan base backing 13:16 - Nov 9 with 2345 views | unstableblue | We’re in the automatics hunt for sure. The Watford draw kept doubts for me on how successful that hunt of going to be come May - as it’s a game we should and needed to win. But yesterday, against a Swansea in poor form, Town WERE overall convincing. And it’s an away three points. Despite us second in the form table over the last 10 games (Coventry obviously first) you can see from the forum a high % of fans are still not bought into this campaign or Town squad. Harsh, but understandable. One argument is that recent points hauls have come against West Brom, QPR, Watford, Swansea, teams lower down in that form table. Well after the foreign break, and before the madness of the Christmas period, we play 7 crucial games, packed with two midweekers. This mate be a period where McKenna’s squad rotation and fit, aligned and ready players to bolster - Clarke, Cajuste, Azon, Greaves, Akpom - could start to get plaudits rather than derision. So who are we playing: Wrexham (h) - Sat Hull (a) - Tues Oxford (a) - Fri Blackburn (a) - Tues Coventry (h) - Sat Stoke (h) - Weds Leics (a) - Sat That’s Hull, Wrexham and Stoke in the top ten of the last 10 form table. And some other teams like Leicester with Quality. I also Blackburn away is going to be a circus and a lottery. What points tally is acceptable to a) keep the autos drive going; b) get wavering fans on the 25/26 bus? 12 for me is a good haul, and achievable, as we continue to just click into that higher gear. Less than 2 points a game, but a good haul. What do you think? Think Wrexham and Hull will decide the run, both tough games, against teams that have the ability to expose us. | |

There have been signs of the engine stuttering into life as of late, time to well and truly get motoring. I'd say your figure of 12 is the lower limit. That would be 4 wins and 3 losses, or 3 wins, 3 draws and a loss. Not perfect but keeps us ticking over with room to improve. Achievable - I think we should be looking at over 2 ppg now if we're heading for the top 2. I'd like to think we could grab 14 or 15 points from this run. 10 points or less, essentially mid table form, will see top 2 starting to disappear on the horizon for me, and it would be a big enough sample size where we'd start to say only an amazing January and an incredible run of form will get us there.
| Next 7 games will define the season and fan base backing on 13:44 - Nov 9 with 2185 views | Vic | If we stick to this form, and with both Cov and Stoke at home, by the end of that run we could easily be settled in the top 2. Once we’re there I wouldn’t expect us to drop off much as we’ve a decent group of players who will be filled with confidence. The pessimist in me (who I constantly try to keep in a box out of the way) says that this run could also show that we’re a decent but not top 2 team who will have a season of being better than most, but worst than the top handful of clubs. I would like to think we’ll come out of the run with the 2ppg average intact or improved. [Post edited 9 Nov 13:47]

Good post. Agree 12 is the lower end. We’ve been 2 PPG in the last 10, but the likes of Swansea away and QPR are very different to Hull and Leicester. 14 and I think we’d really kick-on, added some predictions below - 13 feels a good haul. Just think Blackburn is a banana skin, and Coventry are just in a good place. Wrexham (h) - 3 Hull (a) - 1 Oxford (a) - 3 Blackburn (a) - 1 Coventry (h) - 1 Stoke (h) - 3 Leics (a) - 1 My main point in response to your note though is that I don’t see 2 pulling away in the automatics.. I think it’s Coventry and a scrap for 2nd will no one pulling away unless it’s us… and we also have money for January.

Good lad Vic Leave the pessimist gremlin in the box, think many fans this season have let theirs out its box and sitting on their shouldering whispering. I threw mine down a deep well some time ago, hence the rabid optimism. If the 2 PPG is intact after the 7 then our defence will have shown some real steel. I think it’s good at set pieces and some wide aerial attack. But pacey attacks at our centre backs or balls over the top, from better teams are going to test us. They’ll be money in January for sure.

Those other teams on decent runs or on good form are still somewhat flakey IMO, but Leicester have proper quality (Mavadidi, Fatawu, James) and Coventry have belief if not depth. I suspect we might be pretty pleased that Leicester end up with a deduction later in the season. But maybe I am giving them too much credit

So what could turn out to be decent point against Watford is seen as a disaster to some of the fan base. It's going to be tough going with so many games in such a short period of time and the squad will have to be rotated more than McKenna would want. I think we'll get between 12 and 15 points.

Plenty on here distrust the management, have no confidence in McKenna and dislike the players not least because of the fees paid for them. Weird, but that’s how it is. It shows with the nature of posts after a draw (even if it did deserve a win) compared to a good win like yesterday. Some appear to actually enjoy us struggling because it proves they are right and know best. Comments like ‘criminally overpaid’ for x, even if they don’t know what the players actually cost. He’s worth £3m max? By what measure? What was the alternative? Etc etc. Enough of that. The team is developing. We have a lot of good players and it looks like we are at last building a team and a bit of momentum. That will only encourage better performances. An optimistic take? Maybe but we’ve seen teams develop this way before. Outmoded and unfashionable in an age of I want it now it maybe, but patience is key. I do think the next section of games is the meat of the season. We are going into it in good shape. The better teams will test us, but heck we might just test them too. January? Aside from maybe sending Humphreys on loan I’m not sure we need too much change, but then I always say that. Like the Middlesbrough guy, but I suspect he will go to the Premier League. Bring back Chaplin? I’d like to see that as he offers something different. Morsy? Changed my mind - unless it was a partial coaching role I’d probably say no. Who’d be a football manager.

Before the season we wouldn't particularly fear them, and shouldn't now. That's not to say we should be crestfallen if we don't win them all, but it's a great chance to be really getting up to speed and picking off teams.

Away end was very quiet again (same as QPR until we were ahead), disappointing. We really need the fans to get into the same headspace we were in for the last promotion season, there was momentum behind us I know from League One, but we need to start believing and that will start to transmit to the pitch. We have a better quality team than we had 2 years ago, and we need to back them, fully. Points wise, we need to look to go on a run now, 7 wins, 21 pts is what we should be aiming for.

Another 21 pointer! But not sure you can go on that kind of run without the fanbase fully engaged in the push, bought into what the manager is trying to do and with a connection to most of the players. The disconnect is real and needs fixing ASAP. Hoping more wins and performances can be the catalyst. Coventry have that fan momentum, as we had in the double promotion. I think Azon, Clarke, Egeli, Taylor, Matusiwa are becoming fan favourites and that’s what you need!

Imagine that, it woukd certainly put the cat among the pigeons I'd just like a comfortable win against Wrexham which will keep us out of their documentary

On paper they are strong for this level but suffering from that relegation bump, who even is their manager nowadays?
